alexi laiho impersonation contstAt long last, we’ve chosen a winner for our Alexi Laiho impersonation contest. There were a lot of really funny entries, but sadly most of them were disqualified for being outside the U.S. (read the rules, people!). Andrew N. from New City, NY emerged victorious, and will soon be the proud owner of his very own ESP Scythe for filming and submitting the below video (and not for nothin’, being a skilled guitar player!).     today I saw some guy on the internet do an alexi laiho impersonation and win a guitar for it because he’s american. I live in the UK, and I’m 90% laiho. FML

    I don’t get it… he doesn’t look like Alexi (no make-up), he doesn’t sound like Alexi (no heavy Finnish accent), he doesn’t throw his hair around like Alexi (like a girl).

    The Sharpied “HATE CREW” on his hands was amusing. If he looked more like Avril Lavigne, then this could have been a little better, but this guy’s got the skills. Maybe Alexi should cover Skater Boy next.

    I don’t think this should have won. And as a guitarist, I have a few complaints about his playing – that was NOT C harmonic minor, the sync was off, the tone on the slow version was shite, and he’s playing a fucking Schecter Damien. However, he is pretty good, which is probably why he won, because he doesn’t look or sound much like Alexi at all.

    What guitar skills?

    You guys (and I hope the judges) realize that he’s not actually playing that guitar part you hear. It’s pretty obvious by what he’s doing with his hands, plus the fact that the audio is directly ripped from one of the lessons Alexi’s done for guitar magazines.
