Converge is over represented here. i finally saw them last month and was not impressed. i laughed at them, not with them, out loud from the back of the club. to see them have the #1 record on the decade is one thing i can get over, but to see every album they made make the list is a little depressing.

And how the hell did Shellac & Fugazi make this list? love the bands, but metal? that’s just pandering if you’re not going to include Melvins (a senile animal) or Big Business (here come the waterworks)

Having seen the list today, I have no problem whatsoever with the top 5: all were groundbreaking albums, and Jane Doe is my top album of the decade with ease.

while i agree that bands like converge, isis, and mastodon should be a part of this list, i do not think they should have every album they released on this list. those three bands amount to more than 10% of the list.

bands like queens of the stone age and at the drive in should probably not be on this list either, especially if tool got excluded.

its hard to find a list like these that aren’t excluding some sub-set of the genre. power, progressive and plain old metal get left off these lists to include post-hardcore and alternative bands that have some fringe metal appeal.

Id much prefer LOG and Slipnot on a list than Banana Melt.

Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from with the bands you listed. Especially Mastodon. It really wouldn’t be the same without them. Leviathan did wonders for me. But, to me at least, it kinda feels like Slipknot opened a lot of doors with their self-titled. lol That album hit the world hard dude (of course, it was released in 1999). And, also, like I mentioned above, I can’t see myself legitimizing a list like this with the omission of BTBAM’s ‘Colors’. There’s no fuckin’ way there are ONE HUNDRED metal albums better that that one. Sorry, ain’t happenin’.

I can’t agree with you on them doing a lot for metal. I think Isis, Mastodon, Converge and Neurosis have done much more for metal’s progression. But I do love Iowa and I would have liked to see it on the list. But I wasn’t surprised not seeing it on Decibel, though I was for MS. Why Subliminal over Iowa, I have no idea. Plus, like Axl said, you know what you like and you know what you don’t. My opinion, find a website that has a good personal track record in terms of presenting new bands and raving reviews and stick with them. I have to say though, I MUCH prefer Decibel over MS, but I think the two have very different intentions.

If you read Decibel, you would understand why these bands aren’t on the list. It’s the same with the MetalSucks list. I understand why Isis nor DEP were on their list, cause I’ve recognized that this site doesn’t generally love these bands. If you look at lists by critics you’ve followed and become to understand, you’ll realize that, though you may not agree with them, most of the entries are understandable.
I’m pretty sure Axl is referring to LoG, cause those mother fuckers have how many places in MS’s list? 3? So… ya.
LoG is fucking terrible though.

The whole list is laughable. Nothing on there is metal. It’s all fake metal. If you have an album that can be bought in stores, you’re not metal. If you come from the US, you’re not metal. In fact, nothing is metal. If you play metal, you’re not metal. Real metal does not exist, only posers. I’m gonna go masturbate and cry at the same time now.
