IF ONLY I COULD’VE BORE WITNESS TO ONLY LIVING WITNESS

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 2:30pm by

Whilst going through a massive pile of CDs on my desk earlier this week I came across a copy of Only Living Witness’ Prone Mortal Form. I wasn’t cool enough to have known about Prone Mortal Form when it came out in ’93, and in fact I only discovered it when Shadows Fall covered “December” on their Fallout From the War b-sides record a few years back (see? those things work). But I’m so glad I didp; since rediscovering this CD earlier this week I’ve been jamming it non-stop… so good.

Here’s Only Living Witness performing the record’s title track back in the day in what looks like a sweaty basement or VFW hall. Wish I could’ve seen this band live in their heyday… the audience looks pumped.

Totally. I still listen to Innocents on a regular basis. Brilliant band that I wish were still together. I guess the vocalist started a band afterwards called ‘Hank Crane’ (?) but I never heard it.

Hank Crane was started by the drummer.

amazing bands, amazing song, welcome to the party

Yep, they ruled, both albums they released are amazing, they were incredible live, lucky enough to see them a few times, and in a more just world they’d have been HUGE!

  • jason

They’re like Life of Agony…if Life of Agony was good.

  • Grant

Decibel inducted PMF into their Hall of Fame. Excellent write-up.

  • blah

they did a series of one time only reunion shows 2 summers ago. first show back was amazing. innocents is better than prone mortal form.

got into this band like many others the last few years….because of “grim heart/black rose”.

  • Phil

I got to see the reunion show last summer, it is shame more people were not able to see this increadible band live.

i was just jammin to this album. innocents is slightly better but their best song by far is December.

I saw them back in 1992 (I think) when I was in high school, in Clinton MA. They played with Cast Iron Hike. My first hardcore show. I had no idea what was going on.

  • Jared

Saw them so many times in the 90s throughout New England and went to one of the reunion shows last year. OLW was one of the most underrated metal/hardcore bands of the 90s. Century Media totally screwed them. Prone Mortal Form is a desert island classic for me.

  • DaylightReckoning

PMF is an excellent album, as is Innocents. I discovered OLW in ’03 thanks to a Century Media sampler I came across. December was such an awesome track that I had to hunt them down, could only order the albums online.

OLW is one of my all time favorite bands. So awesome…was in 1993 and the reunion shows last year were mind blowing.

Jonah is now in a band called Raw Radar War:

If Acid Bath ever did a reunion tour, I’d want these guys on the bill.
