I know that a lot of you hate Iwrestledabearonce, but you can start your own damn website!

So. I haven’t gotten to see IWABO since they absolutely decimated the Bowery Poetry Club (you read that right) at last year’s CMJ, because they never come to New York. Now they’re about to embark on a headlining trek, aaaannnnddd… they’re not coming to New York. Swell.

Anyway, this tour – dubbed “The Tour That Stole Christmas” – is going to a feature a  nightly lotto. Attendees can enter at the merch booth for a dollar, and the winners get to come on stage and open a prize. Here’s a silly video with more details:

    This reminds me of how Creed gave away free tickets. Basically if the music is awful enough they need to do stuff like this to make sure they are not standing in front of an empty room.

    The good news for Axl is that based on the response to IWABO on this site he might be a shoe-in for the guitar since he will be the only person in attendance.

    To be fair and open-minded I paused and decided I would give them another try so I fired up three songs and suffered through each one in it’s entirety. NOW I can see the appeal. Basically if you have ADD and no sense for things that go well together then you might enjoy being in a death metal mosh pit at the worst death metal show ever and suddenly being teleported to a sleazy european electro club and before the nasuea is able to wear off you are suddenly segued into cheesey Evanescence-esque caterwauling that for the first time made me consider auto-tune to be a good thing. I don’t really see the merit. I don’t see any. man they suck. I would need some serious drugs to listen to an entire album and not get really angry.

    Yeah its comments like these that make me almost ashamed to be a metalhead. There is nothing wrong with not liking this band or any other of coarse, but in reality any other negative comment about his band or anyone else other then “eh not or me” is both childish and pathetic.

    To be honest with you guys, I hate name-droppers. It’s as if by saying a bunch of obscure bands makes people more metal or have better taste then others. So I’ll just say this. I listen to every kind of sub genre of metal there is. There is no such thing as a bad genre when it comes to hard music in my opinion. And as a mature open-minded adult metalhead, I can say with a clean conscience and a sound mind. I like IWrestledABearOnce, and I do not give a god damn what you “ultra brutal”, “totally kvlt”, dopey shit heads think of that.

    The fact that you join in on these hate rants shows that you are exactly what you criticize the fans of this band in being, trendy. You people are trendsters. It’s fun to join in on the antics, huh? Well let me remind you that these are people, and their not doing it for the money. Nobody does this music for the money that’s absurd. This isn’t Lady GaGa this is fucking metal. It’s time to wash the corpse paint off for a moment and join reality.

    Rebellion takes many forms. Some in shocking lyrics, others in blasphemic stage shows, and for others . . . irony. There has never been a truly happy comic. Everyone from Lenny Bruce to Jim Norton in fact have very dark and saddened hearts. Comedy is brutal, and it is why bands like this can get away with it. Now understandably so not every likes this form of rebellion especially for such niche music, and that’s totally fine. Nothing wrong with saying this band isn’t your cup of tea, but why the anger? So unnecessary.

    IWABO and bands like them are but for the moment living the dream, and are having fun doing it. I applaud them in their endeavors and hope they keep at it. They are a true testament that bullying never sold a record, but persistence and a good sense of humor does.

      I don’t know about others and they’re trend habits, but I’m just stating my musical taste. I don’t enjoy IWABO. I don’t think their the worst band to walk the earth, and I’ve heard a few riffs I like, but overall I find them to be an uninteresting, and sometimes just stupid, gimmick.

      If my hate opinion upsets you that much, please post another wit wall. I’m having trouble falling asleep and this one almost knocked me out.

      This is all way more simple. First off their music sounds awful. Before enough time has elapsed for
      someone to get into the awful death metal it suddenly switches to sub-par electro. Then horrible
      Evanescance vocals. It’s like they do everything and since they don’t focus on any of those things
      they never actually get good at anything. It all sounds like shit the whole time and before you
      get a chance to pick up on some nuance that makes it enjoyable or full of some kind
      of character it switches to another kind of suck.

      Basically the music is just irredeemably awful and what you perceive as a “trend” is actually
      the overwhelming natural response to something that sounds like shit. Plain and simple. Don’t
      read into it so much just so you can rationalize being the only guy out of a hundred that
      likes this tripe.

      skynyrd (br00tal),.and your main point was that we are name droping obscure bands to feel cool.. Then you tried to make a case for comedy, specifically irony (the hipster standby) as metal. (you have been watching too many cartoons).

    No one is saying why they hate this band. Sure they dont have a timeless sound, they are gimmicky, but they are fun to listen to.

    Everyone is just jumping on the band wagon without giving a reason as to why they hate them.

      I find that they lack respect to the genres they are sampling. Everything they play is a medley of clichés being fired off in quick succession. They don’t have the ironic charm of The Sword, the over-the-top cheese of HORSE the Band, or the musicians-having-fun aspect of the Fucking Champs. I can appreciate hipster metal, being myself a hipster, but they just fail.

      See? That’s why I hate this music.

    Personally, I like IWABO. I don’t love them, and I’m not driving two hours to go see them, but they have a few songs. This video, on the other hand, made them look like asshats that can’t read cuecards.

There is no in between, and there music is not for people with ADD> Its for people with an open mind, and BASIC knowledge of music. If they choose to incorparate Country and Jazz, with GrindCore guess what: they are not the first Exit-13 did that 10 plus years and that band include the owner of the label maybe you have heard of it Relapse Records sound familier? They are not even GOOD dissonant like Brain Drill, where it’s just so much awesomeness that your brain blows up, it’s just a bunch of REALLY badly pulled-off harmonizations and some crappy screaming. I don’t think the drummers even matching the guitar lines, or vice versa. It’s just pointless NOISE. My grandparents say the music I listen to isn’t music at all; next time they do, i’ll point them to IWABO.

    I’ll say i love Iwabo (deeply) i really like the 15 songs they have out i really only don’t like 2 songs but i have a deep love for the others… ill admit sometimes they seem like asshats in their recent videos. but they were incredible live…. ive seen them twice and they have my respect.
    I think Axl is trying to increase the comment income of the site with Iwabo blogs.

    I think that if there is 1 band that can ignite a good ol’ fashioned metalsucks pissing match it’s iwrestledabearonce. Personally, I fucking love this band, seen em live and they kick ass and are some of the nicest people too. I don’t give a rat’s hairy ass if anybody else likes this band or not. That’s your opinion, your entitled to it. Nuff said. There’s no need to get all butt-hurt just because someone else doesn’t like your favorite band. I will agree I will never understand the full on hatred this band generates though.
