NEW LUDICRA IS LUDICROUS

Shame on me for just recently discovering Ludicra. But three cheers for the fact that running a metal site exposes me to awesome new music on a fairly consistent basis. As a wise lyricist once wrote, ya take the good, ya take the bad, ya take ‘em both and there ya have the fact of life.

So. Ludicra. Their new album, The Tenant, comes out March 3 on Profound Lore, and, no shocks here, it’s pretty awesome. And the band must know it, because they’re giving away a free mp3 of a new song, “A Larger Silence.” Take that, MySpace streams!!!

This shit is epic. And balances the heavy with the melodic without sounding like another bullshit metalcore re-hash. I’m stoked to hear the rest of the album.

    Fucking meh. Aside from the generic, boring, doesn’t-really-fit-with-the-rest-of-the-music drumbeat, the vocals suck. Just sounds like typical, washed-out (thin sound) death metal to me.

    new song…. kinda shoegazey, but still dripping with raw emotion. I’m guessing the new album is gonna take them out of the gray. good song, GREAT song but i feel like I’m listening to newer Wolves In The Throne Room if they had Ludicra influences… not entirely my cup of tea, when I’m in a wittr mood I usually go for wittr or Ulver. might just be the … See Moreslight dronishness of the song. still can’t wait for the full album to come out, I have faith that it will be as excellent as the artists which write it!

    ludicra is really a great band. most of their albums are what i consider to be “growers.” this song fits right in – i can hear all the interesting, complex stuff, but it doesn’t click for me. but given their track record, i’m going to let it sink in a good long time (along with the rest of the album when i get it) before i make any final judgments. in the meantime, i highly recommend seeing these guys live. great stage presence – very interesting performers. nice folks too, based on a short chat over a beer at the bar after their set and what i’ve seen of their drummer through his metal blog, cosmic hearse.
