DEAR DRUMMERS LIVING IN BROOKLYN: MOVE OUT IF YOU WANT TO LIVE

In the second tragedy to befall a Brooklyn drummer this Autumn (the other being the freak death of Maserati’s Jerry Fuchs), Spylacopa drummer Troy Young was shot and killed in his own apartment, according to the NY Daily News [via Metal Insider]. Spylacopa was (is?) an experimental project that featured members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Candiria, Isis and Made Out of Babies. Young had also logged time in bands The Spines and State of Emergency.
“Drummer Troy Young, played on the Spylacopa EP, was shot to death in his apartment. Sad day. Talented drummer and nice person, 29yrs old,” read an update on Dillinger Escape Plan / Spylacopa frontman Greg Puciato’s Twitter page.
The Post reports that Young was shot once in the shoulder, and that the bullet pierced his heart. No suspects or motives are known at this time.
I can’t speak to Young’s talent the way I could to Fuchs’, as I’m really not too familiar with his work outside of Spylacopa… but any guy who can hang with the rest of those dudes has got to be quite talented. And any time the metal community loses a member is always a sad day. Please share your memories of Troy Young in our comments section.

Wow I was just listening to the Spylacopa EP the other day and hoping that they’d release new material in the future. I really hope this doesn’t mean that they’ll stop, because that EP was really sick and totally under rated.
Tragedy befell Fuchs alright, it befelled all the way down the elevator shaft.
i lived in/near park slope brooklyn for two years. it was a total lesbian fest. not even hot lesbians, but the kind that looked like john madden and patrick ewing

except that, aside from being totally wrong about Park Slope, this guy lived in Carroll Gardens, about a block or two from where I live. Very sad, as it’s one of the safest areas in Brooklyn. And the post is about this poor guy being murdered, not your homophobic thoughts on lesbians. Douche…

Troy Young was a friend of mine. I Met him before he moved out to NY He played a stint with a Band Called CIVILIZED ANIMAL I was the band roadie back then. Please have some respect for my friend he was 1st a great person 2nd a great drummer….I Will Miss U My Friend!!
I have known Troy since the days that the sound of his drumming with his best friend Andy meant that we could leave our home rooms for a high school pep rally. I also made the move from Idaho to New York and couldn’t have survived my first year without Troy. I can’t believe that a blog set up for him has turned into a chat room for homophobic rants and drummer job postings. He is one of the best people I have ever known. He is drumming at a rally, hanging with legends and looking out for his friends even in death. That I am sure of.
I have know Troy Young since He was already rockin the Drums @ da Age of 16 playing for a band Called Stone Fish. From then on, I Printed Every last T-shirt,for every band he was in in Couerdalene id. Troy had became a True Keep it real BRO 2me. I have had the Oppertunity 2 hear Troy Grow with his Musical Talents. THE MAN IS, & WAS one SICK @SSED DRUMMER!!! HE IS TRULEY MISSED!!!!!
