MSN HOPES YOU’RE NOT TIRED OF ARGUING ABOUT LISTS JUST YET

‘Cause Phil Freeman, who was the editor-in-chief of Metal Edge until that mag shuttered earlier this year, is doing his Top 100 albums of the 2000s, unveiling twenty albums a day over throughout this week.

I’m just gonna say one word to get the debate rolling:

DragonForce.

Go.

Day 1.

Day 2.

I like this better than the Decibel list because, uh, it’s free and I can read it. Putting DragonForce at #86 is not unreasonable.

  • Alex_P

Ok, well, I partially agree with him, and partially disagree. All of this is pointless.

“My God! Tastes are not homogeneous amongst metalheads! Whatever shall we do!”

Thanks for the link! I honestly think some MS readers will agree with my “defense” of DragonForce, and probably disagree more vociferously with my willingness to stick up for Blessed By A Broken Heart. There won’t be too many left-field choices in the coming days, but it’s guaranteed to be all metal (no Shellac, no Fugazi). Hope y’all enjoy reading it.

If you pass over the live performances, Dragonforce have some really enjoyable songs. I’d argue for Sunn O))) joining the list instead.

  • Trux

I’m just gonna say two words to get the debate rolling:

    DragonForce rules !!!

  • I love boobs

This list is one of the better ones i’ve read lately. Lots of diversity. Yeah, my comment really has no use.

Here’s to hoping that Nevermore and Devin Townsend’s solo work get some love on that list.

And he threw “Sumeriancore” in there for ya too.
    You’re gonna be huge!

I was really surprised Axl didn’t mention that, to be honest.

  • http://www.omimetal.wordpress.com The Greys

It’s nice to see Enslaved’s “Isa” included, although I’d argue it should be placed higher on the list. “Ruun” and “Below The Lights” were also excellent Enslaved albums released this decade.

    • http://oratorfit.wordpress.com oratorfit

my personal hope is that “below the lights” will make it up even higher

    • http://www.last.fm/user/groverXIII groverXIII

Don’t forget ‘Vertebrae’… fucking brilliant album.

      • gallo666

Never really liked Ruun or Vertebrae, those seem like a watered down version of themselves, so low and slow

What about 2001`s Monumension, that`s probably one of the most enticing concept albums out there

    dragonforce love the cock….force

  • evilfatguy

I read his “dissection” of the Decibel list (which I personally have no attachment to) and got as far as him saying Once Was Not was superior to …And Then You’ll Beg, and decided that our tastes don’t align. His list is also very underwhelming to me, and he seems to have arbitrary issues with certain bands and genres.

    • Legions: iron and steel

His comments about Primordial and My Dying Bride were the ones I found most off-putting.

  • http://oratorfit.wordpress.com oratorfit

this list was just okay (brought down several notches by dragonforce imo) until i saw that he linked to the Last Plane to Jakarta review of Prostitute Disfigurement which is also what got me interested in Descendants of Depravity, I love LPTJ and John Darnielle and tMG

  • Ben

This list is pretty good. I actually like alot of these unlike other lists. Eager to see what the rest are.

  • charan

    AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!…

    …DRAGONFAAAAAAARCE :(

  • meow

Rob Zombie higher than Planetary Duality. Lol no.

    • Nemesis

Yeah…That zombie album shouldn’t be on the list at all, imo.

  • johnny

Putting STUDIOforce or PRODUCTIONforce at #86 ABOVE Endgame is fucking rediculus.

The fact that Rob Zombies educated horses is even higher up is rediculous, as that album is garbage.

    • Double D

Educated Horses was a huge pile of dog shit. How can this dude say it’s his strongest album?

    • kvlt of personality

Your criticism of Dragonforce is very misinformed, and your grammar is pathetic, but that’s a story for another time. My issue with Dragonforce’s on the list is that “Inhuman Rampage” is their worst album (Ultra Beatdown would have been a much better choice) and that his description had nothing to do with the album itself.

  • mike

Big props for highlighting albums from the likes of Spawn of Possession, Martyr, Nervecell.

Blessed by a Broken Heart on the other hand…

  • lybrium

Precambrian should be no lower than 15, in my humble opinion ;)

  • WowWee!

Dragonforce sounds like a video game.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Travis-Montgomery/1390920375 Travis Montgomery

HOW THE F**K CAN HE PUT INHUMAN RAMPAGE ABOVE PRECAMBRIAN????

  • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

    Fuck dragonforce.

  • Dart

I stopped reading when he put Dragonforce above Intronaut and The Ocean
