PANTERA’S “SANDBLASTED SKIN” UNEARTHED

So those covers for the Metal Hammer Dimebag tribute album are starting to surface I guess. First one up is Unearth’s version of “Sandblasted Skin,” which they’re now streaming on their MySpace page.

And it’s pretty good. I mean, Unearth are a good band, they’re certainly heavily influenced by Pantera, and they didn’t really that many changes to the track. So, y’know. Hopefully this will help make some new Pantera fans – ’cause really, what else are covers good for?

Nuthin’ but nuthin’ will ever beat the original, though… God, this song is brutal.

    they did this song justice… it’s a thousand times better than i thought it’d be, but that’s still not saying a whole lot. does anyone think that any of the other covers are going to be the band’s “own” version of the song, or that they’ll be like this one–straight forward, note for note covers?

    Some cover songs benefit from some tweaking to make them the band’s “own” and some benefit from just covering the damn song. This is in the latter camp, and damn they do a fine job of it.

      They’ve done numerous remakes and made them their own…successfully in my opinion.

    Sounds close to the original but the “i’m gonna rip your face” attitude is not there. That cover sounds too “nice” & polite, when the original was clearly agressive as fuck.

    not digging ANY of the covers i’ve heard. Unearth’s version sounds weak and very flat. same with Machine Head’s version of ‘Fucking Hostile’. every band on that little tribute Metal Hammer is throwing together suck dick anyway so it’s to be expected that it will be lame as fuck.
    Pantera should NEVER be covered on record or live. t just doesn’t sound right at all.
    thank god i saw them 9 times back in the day…

    Huge Pantera fan and I’m excited to get the album. Covers are whatever, but if that’s all I can get I will take it. I second the motion for excitement for Chimaria’s cover of Slaughtered. That song rips!

    This one sounds alright. Five Finger Death Punch’s sucks a lot, Its on the new Guitar World DVD. Also on that DVD is a cover of 5 Minutes Alone by “Upon A Burning Body” which sounds better than expected.

    I don’t get it. It’s a great cover of a great song, but it just misses something. That something is probably what makes Pantera so great.
