Yeahhhh… I’m just going to stick with Foobar.

    • Zoker

      Way to go.

Is Winamp owned by AOL or something? That Noisecreep “article” was very, um, complimentary.

  • Miguel G

I’ve been using winamp again for quite a while and it’s pretty cool, is still good software despite the AOL thing. Much better than windows media and itunes

  • WowWee!

I see a vagina in the screen, 4th row in the middle and next to that it looks like a pool stick about to hit a cue ball or could that be Muses album? Nah.

My buddy was using my PC a few weeks back, and was shocked that I still use Winamp to listen to mp3.

He uses Itunes, which I refuse to go near. I’ve never had an issue with Winamp.

Are there any programs people recommend? Be willing to try one of the ‘cooler’ mp3 players.

Foobar is great, but it’s not for the faint of heart. It’s infinitely more flexible than most media players, but it can be a major headache if you don’t know what you’re doing, even with the preconfigured versions.

I haven’t used Windows for quite some time, but I used to use Media Monkey and I loved it. If you really want to go crazy you could install Linux and use Amarok or Banshee.

      • NinjaDude

Another vote for Media Monkey, have been using it for years and I can’t imagine managing my music collection without it. I’ve tried WMP and iTunes just for the hell of it and wow, are they the suck!

I use Foobar at work and it’s no slouch, if Media Monkey ever goes south I’ll prob jump ship to Foobar.

    • Ben

Mediamonkey gets my vote. Amazing open source program.

I’m a long-time winamp devotee, for several reasons. It supports encoding open source music formats like OGG and FLAC (all of my music is in both formats). Also, it’s not ITunes. Sure, Winamp is a proprietary app, but it’s extendable. Live free or die.
It’s the MP3 format itself that makes me nostalgic for 2001.

  • Facebook User

i’m using WinAmp as i read and type this. i’ll have to check out Foobar though.

If you do, make sure you frequent the Hydrogen Audio forums (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/)… they’re basically the Foobar support community, among other things.

  • Avoid The Light

I use both Winamp and Xion media players primarily. I detest iTunes.

If you don’t know Xion, check it out: http://xion.r2.com.au/

  • Lord_Shay

I use winamp, no complaints here. I hate Itunes..

  • anttichrist

    Winamp, Napster, Lars Ulrich.

  • Deathexplosion

    gay.

  • pfk505

still using winamp 2.x no reason to switch to anything else

  • dot

i’ve been using winamp since ’98/’99. mostly because it doesn’t look boring and generic like itunes, foobar, etc by having skins. winamp’s “AOL radio” feature also introduced me to many forms of jazz and dnb & other electronica.

i also use the playlist generator a lot. like when i don’t know which bands to include with Death, or something.

btw i fucking hate itunes because it installs Bonjour on your pc.

speaking of 2001, anyone else remember those flash videos parodying metallica? good times.
