POLL: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE METAL ALBUM OF 2009?

We published our lists. Now it’s your turn.

Here’s how it’s going to work. Rather than post a regular poll with hundreds of options, we’re going to conduct this poll via the comments. Here are the instructions:

Step 1) Decide what your favorite metal album of 2009 is. You only get to pick one.

Step 2) Search the comments of this post for your choice (Apple-F on a Mac, Control-F on a PC).

Step 3) If it’s already listed, hit the “reply” button underneath and simply post “+1″ as your comment. If it’s not listed yet, add it, making sure you include the band name and album title and double-checking that you’ve spelled both correctly.

That’s it! When we re-open the MS Mansion Gates for 2010 we’ll tally up the “+1″s and declare a winner. Nothing is preventing you from adding multiple +1s, but don’t be that douche. Have fun… go!

        they’re extremely generic. they just sound like another band I could see in any local metal bar and yawn at.

          I could say the same thing about your pick, Revocation. They are both finely tuned bands that are much more composed than the generic shit that you could hear any any local metal show, but BTBAM take a little bit more closer listening to appreciate.

          Paul Waggoner’s epic guitar journey’s are the main appeal to me, not the genre mixing.

        None of them are even of drinking age, I think they are still finding their sound. The New Reign was fantastic, A Higher Place has some spectacular moments, although I wish it had cleaner production.

      One of my few disappointments this year.I loved the CD that came before it, and this became one of my most awaited releases of 09. When it came it, though, it just didn’t click with me. I enjoyed their set the other night, though.

      I still go to this site because I’m a fan of it. And so what if I chose Impending Doom? I would have chosen For Today with their album Portraits because those 2 albums are my favorite this year. So I will wait for the flaming against me and I really will not care if you do flame me. I love Impending Doom because I think their music is great! It packs a punch and has some nice breakdowns. Not to mention that I’m a Christian. Oops maybe I shouldn’t have said that.

        Bro, I’m Christian too, but that doesn’t change the fact that most Christian music is from boresville and is so unimaginative. I can barely listen to any Christian music because of how boring it is. That doesn’t mean I listen to straight up Satanic music just because it simply bothers me but most Christian music just straight up sucks. The only Christian bands I can listen to are A Plea For Purging, Impending Doom, and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster and those only on occasion but I do listen to Maylene more than the others. It’s a sad fact that Christians can’t make better music, at least now.

        And to those people who might say “why don’t you make the killer Christian music then?” I reply, “I’ve tried”. Something about most Christian just sucks the true musical genius out of them. A majority of Christians I have talked to about starting bands just wanted to play gaycore (you heard it here first) and anything else generic or resembling music where the members act like hard-shelled creatures and cover songs about kissing a girl and how their boyfriend liked it. That is why I vote for actual musical talent like Mastodon and Converge and Baroness. Sorry Impending Doom.

Crack The Skye is better overall because of its progressive nature and originality but ETID can do absolutely no wrong. Not to mention one of the best live acts in heavy music. Much better than Mastodon.

          There are a couple songs like “A Looking in View,” “Acid Bubble,” and “The Last of My Kind” that are definitely headbang worthy. Bring metal doesn’t always mean you have to throw horns up and mosh around like an idiot. Metal is the attitude that is gained from listening to the album. And of all the albums I heard this year, whether it is Alternative Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, New Wave of American Heavy Metal, whatever…I think that “Black Gives Way to Blue” is the best metal album of the year. Had the headline of this post been “Best ” than “Black Give Way to Blue” wouldn’t be at the top, but since it just says “What Was Your Favorite Metal Album of 2009?,” of course it’s Alice in Chains.

    With Chimaira being my favorite band this is quite a big thing for me, being better then The Infection. Blinding solos, ferocious drums, & some of the best melodic vocals I’ve ever heard not to mention Byron tearing it up at the front. All I can say is, 1. Dallas, get the fuck back in the band when or if at all possible, & 2. Come to Ireland immediately!
