PELICAN TAKE A JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH IN “FINAL BREATH”

I’ve never really been a Pelican fan – but I guess I should be. I saw this clip, for the song “Final Breath,” on Metal Underground, and… wow. Consider my mind blown.

I want to compare it to Journey to the Center of the Earth (We do seem to be traveling through the center of the planet, no?), Fantastic Voyage (some of it kinda looks like we’re inside a human body), or a slowed-down version of the opening credits of David Fincher’s Fight Club (see previous parenthesis), or maybe even the Star Child sequence from 2001… but I don’t think that there’s any denying that the whole thing is vaginal. Is there an equation being made between birth and death? Am I just reading too much into this?

Whatever. It’s pretty cool regardless of what it means or doesn’t mean. And the fact that the song is gorgeous doesn’t hurt, either.

Pelican with vocals? Since fucking when?

    • max

apparently vocals are what we all come to need

My sentiments exactly, sweet jebus does it make a difference! Either someone fucked up and this isn’t Pelican, or we all just became Pelican fans!

“Final Breath” is the first Pelican song ever to feature vocals (besides the PLCN/TAAS split), courtesy of Allen Epley of The Life and Times and Shiner.”

        That’s why.

That kicked so much ass on so many levels. Man… That was for sure a pretty kickin’ journey. So this is the first song, but is it the only one? Because the vocals were the best part. Pretty trippy, and awesome. I’m a fan now.

i was suprised to hear vocals, but it wasn’t a bad thing.

Thanks whoever posted not long ago about Pelican. I was in a music store looking for random CD’s, and when I saw Pelican, I said “Fuck it, if they say it’s that good, it must be that good.”. So I bought it without ever having heard a second of their music, and I absolutely fell in love with it. Thanks.

This is one of many reasons why I love Metal Sucks! I’ve picked up on (and bought) so much good music because of this website…Celan, The Binary Code, and now Pelican!

    Great stuff!

Great song. New record is one of their best.

If you like the vocals on this check out Shiner & The Life and TImes.

It sounds WAAAY too much like Alice in Chains for my tastes.

I love this song, but I love Pelican without the vocals too. This does give a different, but no better, edge to the music having those soft kind of swooning vocals. And that video is awesome.

The video, like the song, kind of drone on (but not in a terrible way; just rather monotonously) with no payoff. The earlier comparison to Alice in Chains is sort of apt, but AIC is dynamic (except when they aren’t, and that is when they fail to capture me).
