SLAYER CANCELS TOUR WITH MEGADETH AND TESTAMENT

Thursday, January 7th, 2010 at 5:22pm by

araya6UPDATE: Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work to see if these dates can be rescheduled, so those holding tickets are asked to sit tight as more info will be announced as progress is made.

Well, it didn’t take long for the long awaited American Carnage Tour to fall apart… it didn’t even have a chance to start. What’s falling apart is actually Slayer bassist/vocalist Tom Araya’s back; according to Lambgoat, Araya’s condition has worsened to the point where he needs to undergo surgery. His back problems previously forced the rescheduling of the Canadian Carnage dates with the same bands, which will now once again need to be rescheduled too.

Ah well… what can you do other than wish Mr. Araya a healthy and speedy recovery? When we interviewed Araya last summer he seemed like a really chill guy who genuinely loves what he does, and I highly doubt there’s any tomfoolery or cover-ups happening here. Best of luck, Tom, and get well.

Tomfoolery? I see whatcha did there!

  • Discipleofthewatch

Oh, what the fuck? I hope this won’t be cancelled, and that Mr. Araya is fine and healthy, seeing as how I have tickets to this and am looking forward to going and seeing ALL the bands!

  • Kuranes

Good to see this didn’t fall apart because of personalities.

In the meantime, step up, Anthrax.

  • Thrashbuster

FUCk. had tickets to this show.

    • battleid

this was my metal bookend for january damnit.

dev and cynic this weekend in atl then hit things up at the end of the month in thrashville.

this is the problem with old dudes in bands…..

  • Phil

    That ruined my buzz, hard.

  • Austin

I was supposed to see this show in fucking November and it got shot to hell by Araya’s back and now this?!?! Slayer was the band I was most excited to see since I’ve already seen Megadeth. I can’t really be mad at the guy ’cause he’s got to look out for his health. The whole thing sucks. There are two good things that could, in a perfect world, come from this though: 1) Rust in Peace in its entirety thereby cementing Megadeth’s place as the best thrash band ever in my mind 2) More Testament (I would love to hear Souls of Black so I can air bass that shit!!!!)
Slayer will be replaced by an inferior band, that is for certain. But there is not reason to give Suicide Silence a half-hour set. I just hope they find a real band to fill the spot and make this tour 60-78% as awesome as it could have been. A few suggestions for the promoters: Revocation, Kylesa, Coalesce, Baroness, Converge, The Red Chord, etc. (and yes, I like Decibel) I don’t know what other bands’ schedules are like, but they really can’t replace Slayer with a shitty band. It would be a travesty.

    • Austin

And no, Suicide Silence are not on the tour. I just used them as an example of a shitty band I don’t want to see or hear.

    • stu1

Revocation are the only band you’d mentioned who’d even do it. Maybe the Red Chord.

    • brian roach

They won’t add another band, without Slayer this is not an arena tour, nothing against Megadeth, but them, Testament and the Red Chord are not gonna sell out arenas! So they’ll have to wait for Tom to get better, which he hopefully will!!

      • Ndawg

Certain they won’t take any of the bands you mentioned.

  • skullsesssion

    Get well soon, Tom!

  • cookie

think he’ll have back surgery, with no anesthesia

    • bearbomb

      HA!

    • TomB

      Good one [smirk].

  • mrbinky

It was to be the show of the year, now it’s nothing. :(

  • ferocious_fetus

So glad I didn’t get my tickets for this yet!
Fuckin Tom man…this better not be the end of Slayer.

  • tjangles

my cousin has tickets to this and when i told, he was so pissed, but all i could do was laugh

  • Geekbeater

Well I had tickets to this show and was only going because of Slayer. I woudlnt pay 12 cents to see Megadeth. Get well Tom hopefully this tour gets rescheduled with Slayer and anybody else but Megadeth.

  • bobovdeath

fuck suicide silence in their sideways emo haircuts

  • mahkiavelli

The only thing good about this is that hopefully the SF date will be rescheduled on a weekend so that I might be able to go.

  • bobovdeath

i wish megadeth wouldve dropped off and theyd got someone else. they gotta wait for slayer because slayer is the one selling the tickets. megadeth on their own doesnt tour as big a places as slayer does.

cuz everyone wants to see slayer..

megadeth look like noodle heads with their “professional” affliction shirts and black coats, like theyre all fancy and shit

  • http://lavidastrangiato.blogspot.com/ Jake Strangiato

Dammit, I had tickets! Here’s hoping I’ll be able to make the re-scheduled show…

  • Dubs

well at least I’ll get to see overkill and vader…

  • Bicro

Well, thank goodness. I was only gonna get tickets to see Testament anyway. And $65 for just that? I’ve seen better shows for cheaper.

  • FranticDav

Damn. I had my plane tickets from Costa Rica to Houston just to see them… Time to do some phonecalling…

  • The Overmatt

Whelp, second time in a row now. Looks like it’ll be the summer before I see this tour, if at all.

  • Facebook User

    LOL good

  • Mei

Slayer should cover “Back In Black” on their next album. Living Colour already did it.

  • http://www.fuckoffmyself.blogspot.com Jedsan

I bought my tickets for this show the week they went on sale back in the summer in hopes of seeing Megadeth, Slayer and Machine Head. Now with all the delays and lineup changes, fuck it, I’m just gonna go exchange my ticket. This tour fell apart. Thanks Slayer!

I’m guessing the European tour’s getting rescheduled too.

  • FrostMechanic

  • Harold

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

Cant they wheel Tom out in that Hannibal Lector hand truck??? It would look cool and be functional!

  • MarcG

Why let the tour fall apart! Live Nation needs to hire Anthrax to fill the spot. Anybody agree??
