I WONDER IF THIS BAND ATTENDED WES BORLAND’S GUITAR CLINIC?

In February of ’07, while he was absolutely not just biding his time until Limp Bizkit got back together, Wes Borland taught a series of guitar clinics in such glamorous locales as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Jakarta and Bangalore. And while I kid about those places, it’s as reassuring to me to learn there is some kind of metal scene in Jakarta as it was to learn that I have a distant cousin who is a rabbi in Dublin (I’m not making that up, by the way.). Peeps get around, yo.

So here’s a Jakartan (is that right?) band called Vendetta, doing a cover of Lamb of God’s “Now You’ve Got Something to Die For.” It’s serviceable but not great, but like I said, it’s cool that there are kids are trying to get shit done in Jakarta, and it’s cool that 75% of this group consists of chicks. At least, I think they’re chicks.

    There’s been a heavy music scene in Jakarta for a good fifteen years now, if not more. It’s just been hard for many bands to gain international attention, I think. If you need more proof, check out the band Kekal. They’re not longer “active” as a band, but they released a total of eight albums into the international metal scene.

    With asians it’s really hard to tell the difference to be honest. Especially when the hair is long. Either way I just stay well away from anything that looks like it could be an asian chick, if I wanted to fuck a chick who looks like she’s 12, I would fuck a goddamn 12 year-old.

    This, actually, brings up something I should have thought of when you guys were asking for suggestions on changes to Metalsucks: how about more coverage of metal scenes in other (okay, non-European) countries? Metal is huge in Latin America (I’m told), and there are scenes up and coming in southeast asia and China.

    Drummer is nailing it! FYI Jakarta is part of Indonesia, where believe it or not there is a very healthy metal scene, a lot of unknown Australian Metal bands tour there, often pulling crowds of more than 1000.
