MORE BOOTLEG FOOTAGE FROM THE SUPER ORGASM TOUR
Thursday, January 14th, 2010 at 1:04pm by Axl RosenbergSelf-proclaimed “Long time Suckalo, first time e-mailer” LordBling attended the Super Orgasm Tour in Dallas on Tuesday, and managed to capture what is actually some pretty decent quality footage of Cynic and The Devin Townsend Project in action. In the unlikely event that you still need to be sold on the majesty of this tour, we thought we’d share the clips with you all.
Cynic, “Integral Birth”
More after the jump!
The Devin Townsend Project, “OM”
The Devin Townsend Project, “Supercrush”

I saw this tour last night in San Antonio. Every band was amazing, and I got Devin and every member of Cynic (except Paul) to sign my ATM receipt (it was the best thing I could come up with on short notice). To anyone else that attended: Anyone see what happened to that kid that got decked in the pit? It seemed like he was bleeding pretty bad and had to be escorted out of the White Rabbit, along with the guy that supposedly did it. Any more details?
I saw the guy that was carried out…split open the back of his head pretty badly. EMTs and fire department guys showed up about halfway during BTBAM’s set to treat him, and the guy’s friends were pretty freaked out over the extent of his injuries. Didn’t see an individual suspect escorted out; I was hearing that he got dropped on his head (maybe a crowd surf gone awry).
That was probably it, there were a lot of crowd-surfers that night. All I know is that the guy’s friends were yelling something that sounded like “Why’d you do it?” to this tall dude in a white shirt that was right near me, and the white shirt guy got escorted out by security. It was pretty intense. Were you close enough to the pit to see if there was any blood on it? I’m pretty sure I saw a lot of it, but it may have just been my eyes fooling me. Either way, it was pretty intense.
I was in the back, opposite side of the entrance. When they carried that guy out, they carried him horizontally and face down (?)…and blood was pouring down the front of his face onto the floor.
Did the guy in a white shirt have a blue mohawk?
Yeah, I saw him getting carried, it looked like he was face-down. As for white shirt, I’m pretty sure he had a short mohawk, but I couldn’t tell you the color.
So stoked to see this on Sunday.
I’d go if I was more into BTBAM. I’ve already seen Cynic (who I like more), and I tend to enjoy staying for headliners at shows. And besides, I’d rather see Townsend with a reunited Strapping Young Lad.
Dallas show was awesome. Wish devy had a longer set though. *sob*
I still can’t believe that I will miss this show because I have to go out of town. Please stop reminding me about its awesomeness.
I went to houston and all the bands were kick ass except devin shitsend project. That was by far the worst band i have ever seen live. They sucked, they could’nt get the sound right, his standup comedy sucked and then not knowing the vocals did it for me. It was worse than danzig leaving the stage because some dude kept throwing water at him and he cried and ran to the back and bitched, moaned, and left. But seriously if there is a good tour i probably will not go at all just cause that band sucked
“Devin Shitsend Project”…at least if you’re gonna insult the band, be a bit more creative than that.
The guy hasn’t played live in years, and is one of the 3 opening bands crammed in before the headliner…of course stuff isn’t going to go as planned. As long as it doesn’t happen consistently at every single venue, then I think its worth cutting them some slack. And as far as the “standup” goes, at least he tried to interact with the crowd rather than just ignore them until the sound problems were resolved.
I have to agree with you on DTP. They were by far the worst band of the night with the 30 minutes of “technical difficulties” (did he really need the vocals and click track in his ears so desperately?). Also, his music isn’t my cup of tea. I have to give it to Devin though, he was pretty funny IMO. Of course Cynic and BTBAM were amazing though.
Apparently it was a different show in Dallas because everything went without a lick of issues, and he was funny. Sounded great. Sorry you missed out. My only gripe was that Devy only got a 30 minute set.
Robert’s right. Check @dvntownsend on Twitter and he apologizes for the sound issues at the first couple of shows on this tour. Plus, it’s been four years since he played live, so that couldn’t have helped.
I was at the dallas show. I got Sean Reinerts stick.
I was at the dallas show too. i was on the left side of the stage about 3 feet from touching the stage. i saw paul waggoner close up and was just amazed at all the intensity all the bands were making. at the end i almost got pauls guitar pick but some municipal waste looking fuck got it before me but i got devins set list. i almost stole pauls slide he used on “swim to the moon” but i decided not to.
did you think the fat fuck security guy was a complete asshole”? he kicked a guy out for smoking a cigarette and almost broke the PA.
great show but i think devins set was lacking, just not enough energy from the band.
The Dallas show was fucking awesome aside from the shitty venue and those retarded emo slam dancers trying to mosh during Cynic’s set. All the bands did great though.
Venue’s organization skills are lacking. Anyone else get stuck in the wrong damn line for an hour only to find out they should’ve been in the other line?
No, but there were some guys in line behind me that were in the wrong line. Not to mention they left the side flood lights on during the whole friggin show, kinda took me out of the show. Not to mention they were being smoking nazis, aaaaaannd that blonde guy kept running across the stage every other minute some guy hopped up on the stage to jump off. Worst. Venue. Ever.
that blonde guy did that during BTBAMs set cause his boss was being an asshole to him and making him work harder.
That happened to me too. I was on the BTBAM guest list (I have a friend at the record label) and I stood in the Ticketmaster line on the left, but apparently I was supposed to just walk up to the podium and announce that I was on a guest list. That never happened at any of the shows I’ve been to at the old Gypsy Tea Room. But, now I know for the next time.
BTBAM is one of my favorite bands, but I’m more excited to see Devin live.
anyone going to the philly show?
I wish, but funds are limited and I decided on the Nile/ Immolation show instead…
i also chose between the two but im not a very big death metal fan so i went with the other
Sweet! My first news post! :)
It was an awesome show. Devy worked out his sound issues from the previous performances, although yes, he had a shorter set (I was bummed that he didn’t get to play any Ocean Machine, and ‘OM’ was a shortened version, although I don’t know if he played shortened versions at the previous shows). Cynic was amazing. I’ve been a fan since Focus (or, the Death-Human album, if you wanna go back further), and never got to see them until just now. As for BTBAM, I’m a fan of their two most recent albums, but I saw them last year when they played with Black Dahlia Murder and Children of Boring … ERRRR, Bodom, so I didn’t stay for their entire set (especially when I went online on my phone and saw the set lists from previous shows on this tour, and saw they’re not playing Fossil Genera, my favorite on the new one).
Oh, and Tony T is right about the moron emo kids slam dancing to Cynic. One of them yelled out to Paul in between songs, ‘You sound like T Pain!’ I wanted to break out the kung fu on his ass.
Kudos on the videos… the quality is pretty damn good. Did you get any more footage?
I shot a few bits and pieces of songs of Cynic and Devy. Most of my Cynic footage was from up close, but the audio quality wasn’t quite as sharp (better to be further back for audio). Also, the idiot moshing emo kids bumped into me during a few, so I stopped recording when that happened. I still have all the clips though, and I can post them to YouTube this weekend. Then, I’ll either A) come back here in the comments and post links, B) post links on Twitter (http://twitter.com/LordBling), or C) You can follow me on YouTube (LordBling17) and then you’ll see when I post them. I’ll play it safe and do all three. :) I’m on the road for work right now and the footage is at home, but I’ll definitely post them either Friday night or Saturday sometime (if I can pull myself away from Assassin’s Creed 2!).
And TonyT, I heard that kid say, ‘Play something BROOTALS’ as if he was Skwizgar or something. Of all the metal bands out there, Cynic isn’t one you act like a retard during their set, no matter how young you are. But hey, it’s these damned kids these days! (shakes fist) … now get off my lawn!
Yea, also one of them said at one point “Play something BROOTAL!” I too wanted to break out the kung fu
I absolutely love Cynic to death, but could Paul be more boring of a frontman than he already is? Even though I’ve seen him make a couple of jokes live, he still acts like hes in the midst of a heroin binge between songs. I know Cynic isn’t really all about the show and more about the amazing musicianship, but still.
Paul masdival (or however you spell it) is a great frontman. his songs are extremely hard to play and to sing with them is amazing. but Cynic played every song perfectly. i loved it.
I agree with Leprosy. Paul’s personality isn’t one of a ‘dynamic frontman’. Just singing and playing what they play is an enormous challenge, so the occasional times when he breaks into a bit of a head bang or hop around the stage, it means more. I’d liken it to the first time I saw Eric Johnson live: Boring frontman …. but how much more can you ask from someone? They can’t all be the guitar players from Dillinger Escape Plan, LOL
I get to see Devin in Melbourne in March, with only one support act. So I am looking forward to a nice extended Devin set :)
I am super soked as well. I am seeing him in Brisbane and it is going to be insane.
For those who asked, here are the other clips I shot from Tuesday’s show in Dallas. All of these Cynic clips were shot much closer to the stage, so you get a much better look at Reinert’s ownage. The last link is part of two BTBAM songs, with some stage banter in between.

Part of me regrets not taping more full-length songs, but I also didn’t want to stand there holding my camera over my head for the entire set. Had to rock out a little too. :)
there were emo kids? u mean im not gonna be the only one!
Dude, it’s BTBAM. Of COURSE you won’t be the only one.
