METAL BANDS FOR HAITI

Friday, January 15th, 2010 at 2:02pm by Vince Neilstein

I’ve been following the NYTimes.com coverage of the crisis in Haiti and… I’m just horrified. I’ve watched video footage of people trapped under thousands of pounds of concrete screaming for their lives, browsed photos of stacks of dead bodies and over-flowing hospitals, and of course I’ve been reading the ongoing reports of how Port-au-Prince’s infrastructure is so crippled that even if suitable aid were to be available it couldn’t reach those who desperately need it.

California label Sargent House (whose roster includes Russian Circles, Red Fang, Red Sparowes and others) and Rodriguez Lopez Productions have teamed up to rally support from the metal community for those stricken by the disaster in Haiti. They’re offering a sampler of Sargent House artists that includes 18 full tracks — for the price of whatever you want to donate — as an instant download “in your choice of 320k mp3, FLAC, or just about any other format you could possibly desire.” ALL proceeds go directly to the Haiti Relief effort spearheaded by Doctors Without Borders, a group that even my Mom recommended I donate to.

DOWNLOAD THE SAMPLER AND DONATE TO THE HAITI RELIEF EFFORT HERE.

Even if you’re broke as fuck, I hope you can afford to give just a little bit to people who need it way more than you do. Every little bit counts. And hey, as if you should need any reason other than that… you get some free music with it too.

Nice way of raising some money.. hopefully we’ll see more of these popping up soon.

Doctors are brutal bro. If you don’t have the money, they’ll let you die.

Doctors Without Borders is an NGO internationally renowned for its staunch integrity and fearless dedication to rendering aid whenever and wherever it’s needed, regardless of political b.s. I support this organization and their mission fervently and whole-heartedly. Thank you for reminding me I’m due for an offering to their altar of independent spirit and selfless service. It’s difficult to budget for disaster, but if there were ever a better reason to check the couch cushions and car floorboards for change, I can’t think of it.

And kudos to Sargent House for stepping up. If you can’t play on sympathy, then you can always play on consumerism. \m/

I totally agree. Doctors Without Borders is one of the best organizations out there making a real and significant impact. A lot of the doctors and nurses who volunteer for that organization are extremely sefless people. If you’re going to give to them, you can be assured it’s going to the right people.

Downloaded it yesterday, major props to all the bands and Sargant House for helping out. Every little bit helps, and the sampler is pretty kick ass to boot.

It’s a nice thought. Those people got a raw deal. And it was already raw.

Thanks for posting this. I’ll be downloading the sampler and making a donation after I get home from the office.

This was a good idea on Sargent House’s part. From the photos on news sites like Washington Post, the people in Haiti need every bit of help they can get.

A good comp with some great stuff, but there’s not one metal band on it.
