THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN’S OPTION PARALYSIS COVER ART: WHAT AM I LOOKING AT, ANYWAY?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 at 9:45am by

No, seriously, what the fuck is that? I honestly can’t tell.

I can’t wait to see this up close, or at least a higher-res scan… ’cause it looks to me like that picture is one of those pictures made up of lots of smaller pictures, and I’m dying to see what all those small pictures are of.

ANYWAY, Option Paralysis comes out March 23 on Party Smasher/Season of Mist. But the first single/opening track, “Farewell, Mona Lisa,” is available for download on iTunes as of today. I’ve been listening to a shitty bootleg radio-rip of the song for the past few weeks, but hearing it in considerably better audio quality… well, it’s like a whole new song. I love it so much. It’s like a perfect combination of crazy mathcore DEP and melodious FNM-esque DEP. I’ve just been listening to it on repeat all morning.

It’ll hafta tide me over ’til March…

The overall picture should be familiar to any student of anatomy and physiology (and no, I don’t mean the obvious one).

  • Zac

It looks like an ear holding a knife. + The inner ear canal and drum, etc.

    • Facebook User

that makes sense to me as well. because my ears want to stab themselves when they hear their shitty music too.

      • orbital

        +1 and fucking LOL!!

      • Dirtman73

This from a person who admits they use Facebook. Way to stay irony-free, douchebag.

      They’re feeling British today.

  • uhu

from left to right: inner ear (exactly the same picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Oreille_Interne.png) , ear with the descrition of the parts of it (also exactly the same picture: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ca/Gray904.png) and a knife. they just took the images from wikipedia dude!!!

      Your links aren’t working.

      • Zac

        Wait… now they are.

I am guessing they actually took the second image from Gray’s Anatomy, hence the file name on Wikipedia, “Gray904.png;” images on Wikipedia come from somewhere too, dude. Also, the first image you linked is obviously not the same as the one used in the album art.

  • Emil

Yeah i just wish people outside US and UK could buy it, what the fuck dillinger ? Fucking shitty.

I’m not sure I can fully express the intensity of my apathy for this release. As far as I am concerned, the last great thing released by DEP was Calculating Infinity. Irony is a Dead Scene was an interesting one off, Miss Machine was bland in comparison, and everything since then has been utterly boring.

Disappointing too since Calculating Infinity is easily one of my favorite records of 1999 which, along with Meshuggah’s Chaosphere, rocked my fucking world that year.

    • aids robot

      everything since = 1 album

  • Facebook User

that picture sums up their music pretty well to me. a big discombobulated mess that makes no sense and has no meaning.

    • Meekal

And yet, the fact that it IS actually something, only hard to percieve and made up of seemingly meaningless smaller parts. It is only as a whole that it begins to make any sense.

I realize a few people have already posted the answer…but COME ON?! How do you not see that it’s an ear + inner ear organs?

    • edSW

because it also looks like a sperm that’s about to shank you.

  • feegore

Looks like the cochlea and the canals

  • themasses

Boo-urns! Hiss! They changed their logo. Oh wait, this ain’t Metallica, no one is gonna come up with such ridiculous things to complain about.

    • The Ghost of D. Boon

Waddya mean that’s the same logo they’ve been putting on shirts for as long as I’ve been aware of the band.

Well it’s definately a Dillinger Escape Plan song. And a good one. I think the single art is pretty cool too. Roll on March.

  • A

The single art is better then the album art! I wish it wasn’t too late to switch it up!

“Option Paralysis” is a pretty cool name for a title, but wasn’t one of their former members actually paralyzed?
Wonder how he feels about that title…

    • http://myspace.com/duckbillz Duck Billz

Adam Doll is momentarily featured in one of their recent studio update videos. I don’t remember if he is just visiting or if he is contributing musically, but he can be seen making the joke, “Now we can put the paralysis in Option Paralysis.

  • Kyle

Farewell, Mona Lisa is great. How come Converge gets so much love and DEP gets the shit stick most of the time? DEP are way more creative and just as fast/technical. Only they don’t have the douche-punk attitude of Converge, I guess that’s pretty appealing.

    • The Ghost of D. Boon

Huh? According to who? As much as I love both bands I’ll admit they’re both way overhyped, but DEP definitely gets more hype than Converge. Maybe with Axe to Fall they’ve drawn level among heavy-music types but DEP gets crazy hype outside of the typical metal community as well. Even Bob fucking Lefsetz in on their taint.

    • Marc

because Converge didn’t fall off like Dillinger did after their first album. go figure. and that “douche-punk” attitude is every bit apart of Dillinger as it is Converge.

  • Con

Artwork is as always with DEP pretty terrible, but i honestly dont give a shit when the music is as amazing as it is. Already love farewell mona lisa and good neighbour sounds fucking awesome too.

  • Sam

In case no one has established this fact, the artistic style employed on the album cover is a mosaic. (Or a “picture made up of a lot of smaller pictures.”)
