EVEN BY KORN STANDARDS, “MY TIME” IS A TERRIBLE SONG

Friday, January 22nd, 2010 at 1:21pm by

SMN just alerted me that a “fashionably “old school” Korn demo track,” entitled “My Time,” has leaked onto the internet. Out of morbid curiosity Because I hate myself As a sacrifice for you, the readers I really have no fucking idea why I listened to it, but, holy shit, is it awful. It makes me long for the days of… whatever the old fucking Korn songs were called. I think there was one where Jonathan Davis was all angsty and Fred Durst directed the video or something. That was better than this.

ANYWAY, if you care, listen to it now before it gets yanked from YouTube.

Korn’s new album, Who Gives a Shit?, will be out Who Gives a Shit 12th.

as a fan of the older albums 1-5 i dont find this really good. it has potential but we shall see bout the rest

  • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com DemiGodRaven

…wow, sounds like they’re aping themselves again.

  • SonOF

If there was a rock and roll All-Ugly team, Jonathan Davis might be the captain (or maybe co-captain with Lemmy from Motorhead). He looks like a homosexual meth-addicted rat. And oh yeah, that song is awful as well.

    • eduar esneider

perrra ojala lo maten los fans de korn ud es un hijo d puta

  • http://metalmadeincanada.ca Legion

Well, this sounds like Korn… I don’t get why we should be surprised?! Of course, if you hate Korn, you would hate that song too, like I hate any song ever made by puff daddy.

  • http://thatdevilmusic.blogspot.com Rob Liz

Sounds like all of their other hits mashed together with a dash of emo added for flavor.

  • Walker

sounded like Korn, a band I loved when I was 14 and haven’t really listened to since I got into better music.

  • Ryan

The song actual got interesting when he started freaking out in the middle. Maybe it was due to not expecting that or possible you don’t hear people do vocal tracks like that. As a whole I hope this truely is just a demo version it needs some work..

  • http://schenkeltown.blogspot.com SchenkelTown

it’s not even the completed version of the song. give them a break and listen to it when it’s done

    • Will

      no.

  • http://www.heavyblogisheavy.com/ Alkahest

Followed through with their promise for an old school sound. Ross Robinson said the guitar tracks and the vocals on the final version were improved. So there’s that. I’m actually interested in seeing how this was improved and what else they came up with. I mean, Korn got me into metal so there’s always gonna be that respect for them in that regard so I’m going to have to check it out.

its better than some of the shit i’ve seen posted on here.. and its definitely a demo version, so of course the final product will be much better quality. its strange how “old school” sounding Korn is what people have always wanted. then they get it and bitch about it. but fuck it.

  • ceth carter

Actually not the worst thing I have ever seen posted here. I would give the actual recorded version a chance before i make my final conclusion.

I liked Korn until I started playing the guitar. Then I had my revelation.

  • Awful Georges

    Why did you post this

  • Noel

why do korn think we, or anyone, wants to hear a recording or A GROWN MAN CRYING?!? after about 15 years, sobbing into a mic doesnt sell that well, johnny boy.

    • Noel

      of

      • Ziltoid

He’s not sobbing, he’s expressing himself in the most healthy, productive way possible that he hates his evil parents. That’s what all adults sing about once you get past all the metaphors.

  • timmah

Horrible song. Ray Luzier slays on the drums though. Leaps and bounds better than Silveria was.

  • DD

It sounded like a huge cluster fuck. Hey at least they are sticking with the same bass line from the beginning lol.

  • Bob

good or bad , sounds like Korn

  • http://www.cutch.ca Cutch

The thing that bothers me about Korn these days is that it seems so fake. I mean, on their first few albums there was an emotional intensity that (sounded like it) came from real emotions.
It seems like after that, during the 2000′s, Jonathan Davis kept trying re-create it, but without any real trauma to back it up, it just seems put on and fabricated. I used to think that may have come from not recording with Ross Robinson anymore, but this song doesn’t appear to support that theory, lol.

    • Ziltoid

Don’t mock the true, parent-hating emotion of a mid-late 30s man. This is true stuff.

    • SonOF

I was just thinking that. The dude is a multi-multi millionaire. Enough with the tortured angsty shit. He has the money (and then some) to get the best therapist in Cali to talk to him about those times his Daddy touched his peepee. :/

  • John

They already had a song called “I Did My Time” and now they gotta song called “My Time”…please advise

    • NuMallCore Pwns YoMama

I though the exact same thing and was expecting to hear a demo of “I Did My Time”. I loved Korn’s first album but this is awful

  • Ben

I really don’t give a shit what all you trend hoppers think(that includes the MS bloggers), I think this actually holds some potential. Davis sounds like he’s gone back to his original vocal style which has been my biggest problem with the band since Follow the Leader. So, sure, if you weren’t even a fan of their first couple albums, I can understand why you wouldn’t be interested in this at all. I, however, recognize that the did some amazing stuff back in the beginning and actually hope that they manage to bring some of that back, despite being 2 members down.

    • Ziltoid

Yeah man, Korn is BRINGIN’ THE SLAMS! KORN 3 LYFE!

      • Ziltoid

        *4 LYFE

I get my numbers mixed up when I listen to awesome music.

        • Ben

          Yeah… it’s not just because you’re a fucking moron or anything…. nooooooo

          • Ziltoid

Not at all. I’m fucking omniscient, yo.

    • Ben

That doesn’t even make any sense in the context of our exchange. Do you just randomly pull words off dictionary.com to try to hide the fact that you have the mental capacity of a turnip? Whatever, you obviously manage to keep yourself entertained with your own stupidity.

Thank you internet for giving douche kits like ziltoid a false sense of worth.

      • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

You may want to have you sarcasm detector calibrated. It seems to be malfunctioning.

      • Ziltoid

        “Douche kits”

        lol

      • Joshie

Wow, are people saying “pulling words off of dictionary.com” as opposed to “pulling words out of a dictionary” now? That makes me feel old for some reason…

        • Ziltoid

Actually, what’s even worse is that:

          a) A person over the age of 13 wouldn’t even need a dictionary to know what “omniscient” means

          b) My username is “Ziltoid” and he thinks I need a dictionary to know what “omniscient” means

          • Ben

Did I ever say or imply that I don’t know what omniscient means? You’re right though, your screen name should have let me know that the term would be part of your vocabulary. So, basically, you get all your 2+ syllable words from metal albums? Good to know.

In regards to point A: I agree, a person of normal intelligence wouldn’t need to look up the definition of omniscient… see… I was implying that you’re of substandard intelligence. See how that works?

          • Ziltoid

I saw what you did there, it just wasn’t clever or funny.

      • Ben

And you’re the king of not being clever or funny. Sadly, you’re mistaken. I’m both. It’s not surprising that your inflated sense of self worth(in fact, you have NONE) wouldn’t allow you to realize.

        • Ziltoid

You’re shit-throwing argumentative tactics are pathetic and juvenile.

  • cougar party

Their bass player has the easiest job in music. Probably the worst bass player to ever be in band with a record deal.

    • Ziltoid

They don’t have a record deal. They’re an unsigned, indie, underground band, why would you expect a record deal?

      • cougar party

hm….maybe that’s why their singer is so full of angst.

  • Ziltoid

With the discovery of this new and original piece of musical genius from the unrivaled kings of the well-respected genre of nu-metal, Korn have delivered to us the best metal song of 2010. Everything from the obscenely heavy bass (bet you can’t play that Sean Malone!!!) to the guitars that just blaze countless memorable riffs (I guess they learned how to craft memorable from my idol, Jon Schaffer) make this song a genuine piece of metal history. Even the distortion give the song an atmosphere of death and destruction, which is needed for a song to be considered metal. Of course, the drums are tricky and subtle, playing in countless time signatures and alternating them at unexpected times, creating what many would call a progressive metal drumming masterpiece. The drummer is obviously influenced by the greats, such as Lars Ulrich, AKA “King of the Kit.” But the most important part of this performance is the vocals by Jonathan Davis. There has never been a band with such a brutal, harsh vocal delivery that was so refined like this before. Obviously taking direct cues from Luc Lemay’s vocal performance on Gorguts’ classic album Obscura, Davis lets loose some of the most fantastic harsh vocals ever from 2:17-2:40, sounding dry, raspy, hoarse, yet definitively manly. This album will be the pinnacle of music, an ear-crushing testament to the fact that true metal never died when metalcore rose to the height of popularity.

    • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

      Obvious sarcasm is obvious.

      • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

But, it’s pretty funny, too. Neglected to mention that.

    • Heavy Metal

      • Fufkin

Wow, what sharp satire you have there. I think I cut myself on it.

  • Nick

Sounds to me like the closest thing to the ST album since th ST album. I grew out of Korn after Life is Peachy, but all the shit after that sounded horrible. To me this sounds like the ST album alot, but thats just my opinion.

  • You Don’t Know Me

They’re written worse but at the same time, it sounds like Korn trying to do a cover of themselves. It’s an old school sounding Korn song for the sake of an old school sounding Korn song. It’s like they don’t even care anymore.

  • steve-o

This has a lot more groove to it than their most recent few albums, and I like that. I’m interested to hear what the rest of it sounds like.

  • anthony

Better than some of the later korn stuff… it wont bring me back though.

  • addonex

while it is not as good as the original albums (by “original” i mean when head was still in the band) it sure is a hell of a lot better than the crap they put on the two most recent albums (with “untitled” being the superior of the two recent ones, see on the other side was just complete shit)

  • Boob

    Fieldy looks more white…..

Whatever, this sucks bad. Bu they always did, didn’t they? Like always. Not “oh, but that one song they have was ok.” Yeah, it was OK, not good. Not even on the border of good.

    • Joshie

I think Fieldy and Munky switched races for this album.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/RIchard-Kulba/514264422 RIchard Kulba

ummmm more white? Dood he still has the same skin tone….don’t you forget they’re in the studio and lights are brighter

Davis is really channelling those emotions

  • Jizzmaster3000

As someone who is a big fan of the first 4 Korn albums, I can happily say that this sucks.

  • Joshie

So, which original member is going to leave the band for this album?

  • http://www.rfosterdesign.com rfosterdesign

Def dont give a FUCK about Korn anymore…but that was DEFINITELY old school Korn. Props to Jon Davis for not completely losing his penis…

  • Alameister

I thought this was good for being a rough mix, it holds potential, and he sounds like he went back to the FTL vocal style, but once I hear the final version I’m sure it’ll be heavier and the vocals will be better in the middle. And if you hate the band so much why waste your time whining about the man whining? I’d rather be a 39 year old talking about fucking up my parents than a 39 year old pretending I’m a wizard or some shit. Sheesh, bitch bitch bitch about what you hate, but never surround yourself with what you like… who’s the true fucktard?

  • Brrrrrrt

    It sounds like shit !

    Massive waste of time !

  • Facebook User

i know it’s been said, but Axl you really need to read background info before you post shit.

this is not the final version of the song, and it was removed from YT on the Mayhem Fest channel because of it.

either way, i want to hear the final version before i judge.

  • Phillip

You have to give Korn credit here. They promised to go old school on this album, and hot-diggity-damn, they were actually telling the truth.

It’s not often bands actually fulfil their promises of a heavier album.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/RIchard-Kulba/514264422 RIchard Kulba

it’s going to be sic. I can’t wait….when is it out?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/RIchard-Kulba/514264422 RIchard Kulba

this is actually not bad going back to their roots. I LIKE it…….I just said and I really don’t care. I love any metal except agayjew,,,,wow the ending is bad…I’ll say that. lol

  • Dan

first of all i would like to say to all the posers and all the korn fans that if you dont like there new song then your all retarded it might not be the best on the album but who cares if u really love korn then show your respect and care for them and ther songs dont listen to the dumb fucks

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/RIchard-Kulba/514264422 RIchard Kulba

Thank you….somebody who thinks like me Your comment is 100% correct like u give a shit or not. lol

I have never been able to understand why anybody – ANYBODY – likes this band. That they have such a vast fanbase just baffles me.

Seriously. What the fuck do they expect to bring to the proverbial Nu-metal table in 2010? I mean, if they are going to start dusting off their Airwalks, Jncos, and 26 red shirts then more power to them for wanting to re-live their mid 90′s glory days, but seriously this is about a decade too late.

    • Nick

Haha I had red 26 jeans.

  • binkles

Am I the only one who likes the last couple albums better than the earlier ones? I like the earlier ones but they are a little more one demensional to me now. The last couple I found more interesting and less numetally

    Ziltiod,

I really enjoy your posts. In fact sometimes I come to this site just to read your posts (not in a gay stocker-ish way, but more of I need a good laugh from an intelligent person that knows what they are talking about way). Thank you for being someone that has an opinion worth listening to.

Also this new korn track makes me contemplate suicide because not only is this piece of shit cd coming out this year, but also the new limp bizkit will be dropping sometime soon too. What has the world come to?

    • Ziltoid

Glad to hear that you enjoy my posting! \m/

The best thing about that video was the red strings on the bass. That looked awesome.

  • http://www.nemrosim.blogspot.com/ AWB

Was okay until Jon started singing – he looked really goofy in those profile shots, trying to be all serious and focused, but really coming off goofy, and you can tell he’s trying hard to hide a smile (again, visible even from the side). Other than that, it sounds like every other KoRn song I’ve ever heard (oh yeah, I capitalized the ‘R’ just don’t know how to get it in backwards, if you know the HTML-Tag for that, please tell me).

I don’t see why Axl suggested that the band/record label would have YouTube pull the video, granted it looks like your run of the mill, in-studio recording session footage cut/pasted together for a cruddy video, but still professionally produced shitty quality encoded run of the mill in-studio ‘vomit out this to keep the fans quarter interested’ video.

I don’t listen to Korn (to be fair, they always sell magazines, and have sold half of all Hit-Parader, I will give credit where it is due, the other being Manson) but they did have two nice videos, the ‘Falling Away’ video, with the nice red-ghost-buster styled effects, and the ‘Todd McFarlane’ Cartoon. Any others? List em!

    Also, are they Jewish?
