THE BEST THING ROB ZOMBIE HAS DIRECTED IN YEARS

Not that the video for “Sick Bubblegum,” the new Rob Zombie song, is startlingly original or great or anything. Y’know, Sherri Moon Zombie is in it. So that’s a real plot twist.

But I actually kinda like the song. It’s a Rob Zombie song. Write a catchy riff that doesn’t sound that different from your other catchy riffs, stick in an anthemic chorus, and repeat for four to five minutes. It’s not rocket science. But I’ll take this over most of the young pop metal bands making waves right now. And if doing this affords John 5 the opportunity to make another solo album, well, all the better.

“Sick Bubblegum” will be on the very poorly titled Hellbilly Deluxe 2, which is out February 2 on Roadrunner’s Redneck Division Loud & Proud imprint.

Yet another generic Rob Zombie song…yawn

  • Facebook User

Are you calling Ratt redneck music? Those are fighting words!

I kinda liked this song, because it has a bit of a White Zombie vibe to it, but it’s definitely not up to the standard of his old work, and the new album is pretty much crap.

I definitely second the hope of a new John 5 solo album… his solo stuff is fucking incredible, and he’s the best thing about this disappointment of an album.

Educated Horses and, so far, what I’ve heard from this definitely have more of an “actual band” vibe that’s been missing since WZ split. I will agree, however, that despite my love for the guy’s work, it’s still not the same. There was just some kind of x factor there in WZ that still isn’t there with this lineup.

The first HBD was quite mediocre, but EH was an awesome album.

  • Double D

I thought this song was GREAT. I’ve always had a soft spot for Rob Zombie, probably because my mom is such a fan and I heard Zombie a million times form her playing it while growing up. By the way, I would kill for that argyle shirt he’s wearing.

      How old are you??

  • as long as…

….it’s got the trademark Zombie “yeah!” included somewhere in the song, it’s all good. I would be concerned if he ever had a song without that.

  • Colin

This song sucks balls. The whole new cd is repetitive garbage. I’d rather go listen to the new Korn song…

P.S. I do like Rob Zombie, this just isn’t worth listening to.

    • Colin

John 5 does some cool shit on this, I’ll admit that. That’s where it ends.

  • iolanach

Rob Zombie and Korn. Another grand slam!

    • Ben

I grand slammed your mom last night.

      • Hammer_Smashed_Hurtt

        Ziing!

        • trapped_under_meth

Do you even know what you zinged to?

          • Hammer_Smashed_Hurtt

To Ben grandslamming Iolanach’s Mom. I thought it was well timed, clever and witty.

And after a few drinks I may Zing your mom this evening.

I wanted to hate it pretty badly, but its good. Howlin’ Wolf said “if its in the groove everybody likes it.” Rob always gets a groove, simple but effective

  • Pahkmycah

I like the new album, it’s better than Educated Horses, but still doesn’t compare to his early stuff.

  • Genial Gentile

Ouch…that was awful. Can’t say I’m surprised. Despite what some folks here who cut there teeth on RZ, Korn and the like seem to think, Zombie hasn’t been remotely good since about ’93. True story, I was there. On the bright side, it’s good to see him going back to making mediocre music instead of full-blown cinematic abortions.

  • Pesely

how can you like this and not the new Korn? this is one of the lamest songs Rob has ever done. and i love his work with White Zombie and his early solo shit.

  • Facebook User

The video is actually better than the song, in my opinion.

  • -gODGRINDER-

    Big. Fat. MEH.

His vox are losing their touch. He sounds insecure like he’s in a karaoke bar and hasn’t had a thing to drink.

It’s definitely a meh song, but it’s better than anything on educated horses. And I don’t like how he’s trying to cash in on his most successful solo album by naming this the sequel, because this doesn’t compete with the original Hellbilly Deluxe

  • Hammer_Smashed_Hurtt

You want horrible? Try his “Live” Album.

  • Fa Fa Fo Hi

    holy shit, terrible.

I’ll go ahead and say I don’t mind his other stuff, I can listen to it and it’s ok, but this is garbage.

  • Facebook User

It’s a shame, really what Rob Zombie has turned into music-wise when you consider how great his past works with White Zombie were. I don’t even know what to classify him as any more, because he sure as shit hasn’t made a metal album in years.

  • SonOF

This totally eats shit. Yet another reason why this clown who hasn’t been making relevant heavy music in decades shouldn’t be headling that Mayhem festival. Did he just say “Rock..motherfucker x3″ ? ugh

  • Chromaticjustice

I didn’t like the song at first but the more I listen to it I like it more I like it. I also think John 5 is perfect for Rob Zombie’s band. It at least it looks like they both are having fun and Rob treats John with respect unlike Brian Warner. I saw Rob Zombie live when he released Educated Horses. John was on fire when they played old WZ songs he didn’t even miss a note. It was great to hear those songs live. As for Hellbilly Deluxe 2 I haven’t heard it yet. As for His last album I liked It a lot. I thought it was better than any other solo releases Rob Zombie put out before it. I’m waiting patiently for John 5′s next solo album.
