RECORDING OF A NEW ENSLAVED ALBUM HAS BEGUN!

Monday, January 25th, 2010 at 1:00pm by

It’s true! They’re in the studio right now! This can only mean good things, as everything about Enslaved is awesome, save for the fact that I’m not watching them play live right this very second. But that’s not really their fault, I guess, and if they were playing live for me, they might not be working on a new album. So I guess all is forgiven.

Anyways, Enslaved are one of those black metal bands that I’m not entirely sure you can call black metal anymore, which must be why I like them so much. Their sound reaches so far beyond the parameters of the same old same old that I don’t even think they know what the same old same old is. What kind of psychedelia could they have in store for us this time? I don’t know, but me and my shrooms can’t wait to find out!

Here’s the band’s video for “Isa.” If you don’t know what album it’s from, then you must not own it, and if you don’t own it, then I’m sorry, but I can’t be friends with you until you do.

Easily one of the best bands I’ve ever heard.

“Anyways, Enslaved are one of those black metal bands that I’m not entirely sure you can call black metal anymore”

    Hard hitting musical journalism/blogging here.

You heard it here first folks. Enslaved have ventured from their Black Metal origins.

Heard of this over the weekend. Jizzed in my pants. It almost made up for the pain of listening to Brokencyde’s entire album.

    Almost.

    • Kye

You listened to Brokencyde’s entire album?

Surely this couldn’t haven been your choice.

      • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

I did it for this, my blog’s first weekly Shitty Music Saturday. I’m listening to shitty music so you guys don’t have to.

Due up in the future: Nickelback, Hollywood Undead… maybe Attack Attack! and Kanye West. Who knows? My brain may hemorrhage before I get that far.

*adds to list of things to read whenever I’m online*

If it comforts you, I’ve heard pretty much Nickelback’s entire discography, Hollywood Undead’s debut, and most of Kanye’s material and I’m still unhemorrhaged. My ex secretly wanted me dead, methinks.

          • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

My brain thanks you for that. It still doesn’t make me look forward to this any more, though…

        • Ziltoid

I actually made it through the entire Attack Attack! album. I was very surprised, but I had so many lulz from Stick Stickly (and thinking of the video) that the rest of the album just seemed like the same thing over and over. I’m pretty sure it’s the worst album I’ve ever heard, but I intend on sitting through a Brokencyde album as well.

        • Ziltoid

And dammit, grover, that blog entry was great! I like the up to the minute commentary style of reviewing such shitty music.

          • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

Much obliged, sir… there will be more to come, you can count on that.

I just wish people would actually comment on stuff we post. I know there’s a lot of people visiting the site, but no one comments on anything. It’s hard to gauge what people are thinking of what we post.

          • Ziltoid

Is that an invitation to the mighty Ziltoid? Well, I might just take you up on that, haha.

Hey, you’re more than welcome. Hell, you could have your own weekly column if you wanted to. I like having contrasting viewpoints… helps the site cover a greater amount of metal.

Too funny. Your pessimism is funny.

Same here. What a fucking awesome band.

Holy shit. best news i’ve heard/will probably hear all day

  • I, Monarch

Excellent news. Vertebrae was my favorite album of 08. Enslaved are unstoppable, I will be truly shocked if the new album is anything less than superb.

  • Skeletonwitchcraft

    fuck to the yes

seen these guys open for opeth and they stole the show. unfortuantly their set was very short.

hopefuly they will do a headliner in the states soon after the album comes out.

    • Biff Tannen

Enslaved is a great live band, but it’s really not too hard to steal the show from Opeth.

  • Biff Tannen

Good news ! Can’t wait to hear what they have planned for my ears. Enslaved is the only band I can think of that in nearly 20 years , has NEVER dissapointed me with a single one of their albums. The only one I don’t play often is “Monumension”…its certainly not bad, just the weak point in their steel fortress of a discography.

  • iolanach

They hit their peak with Below the Lights and Isa. Ruun and Vertebrae were a couple of notches below…still, great stuff.

  • Ziltoid

Vertebrae was just really bad. I have a little bit of hope for this new one.

  • brandonmetal

apparently i must have horrible taste, cuz i don’t know how anyone can think vertebrae was anywhere near as great as ruun…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Susan-Graves/8833325 Susan Graves

Enslaved work on albums when they’re not downloading sheep? Sweet!

In all seriousness, can’t wait to hear what they release next. Vertebrae was awesome.

  • ~Ja5oN~

(Isa) I love this song! ..Hearing this a few years back was actually what turned me on to them, also really dug “Path To Vanir” off of Ruun. Vertebrae is also a decent album as well, kind of like a trippy/progressive/black metal vibe going on with it. Hope the next album is in the same vein as the 3 previous ones.

  • Ian

Thanks to “Metal: A Headbangers Journey” for introducing me to Enslaved. Excellent band. I hope they keep up the same vibe as Vertebrae for the next ablum

  • Dirtman73

I thought Vertebrae was an amazingly complex and creative album, but I really hate that dude’s death screech. Even for black metal, his impression of a drymouthed hyena mating call is obnoxious.

  • myke

nice i just hope for more progression

  • Adam

Here’s my Album of the Year 2010!

  • Kuranes

Good news. I can’t wait to hear this.

  • pfk505

One of the finest bands in metal, great news!
