4/20 IS GONNA BE A GREAT DAY FOR METAL (AND SOMETHING ELSE)

As if you didn’t already have big plans for 4/20, Periphery have marked that date for the release of their Sumerian debut, which I’m assuming is self-titled.

That’s already good news, but, interestingly enough, I also just so happen to be aware of another awesome new record that’s coming out on 4/20. I’m gonna have to conceal the identity of that album right now because I don’t think they’ve announced the release date and I don’t want to be a hindrance to whatever they have planned, but trust me when I say there’s no need for cynicism – it’s gonna be awesome.

    BTW, I was pretty excited about the Periphery album until they got the new vocalist, he sucks compared to the previous guy.

      I never heard the new vocalist but was the new vocalist a part of the recording process or was that with the old singer?

          You’re probably referring to Casey Sabol, which Chris (the guy after him) had a had time “topping”, it’s true. But this new guy seems to be along the same vein as Casey. I think it will be good, but we’ve only heard the album sampler, I’m reserving judgment for when I hear full songs.

            Whichever vocalist was featured on the album teasers they had up on myspace last year was the only one I heard before the new one. From my understanding, they’ve gone through a lot of vocalists, so I have no clue what their names were or how the others sounded; just the last two guys. In any case, I’ll obviously listen to the album when it comes out. I really don’t like the newest guy’s clean vocals, he sounds too emo-ish on the stuff they have up on myspace right now. We’ll see.

        They had some vocals recorded with the previous guy, but then re-recorded everything with the new guy. All the songs on their myspace now are with the new singer. His clean vocals are shit compared to the other dude.

    4/20 is just a day for people who like smoking pot but don’t admit it due to societal and/or legal pressure to have an excuse to smoke. Then they can say “I don’t smoke weed…well except that time on 4/20, but it was 4/20…that’s what you do.” It’s like people who aren’t Irish at all but use St. Patrick’s Day as an excuse to get unreasonably drunk at an unreasonably early hour. I think it says a lot about American society that rather than learning how to get responsibly inebriated in our everyday lives we binge on designated days that are “ok because it’s a holiday”.

        I go to school at UMass Amherst, which is one of the most liberal campuses in the country. 4/20′s pretty big here.

      People that use the term 4:20 or think that April 20th is special in any way are morons and entry-level jackoffs. I like to occasionally blaze, but I sure as hell don’t need a special time or day to do it. You’re dead-on about the St. Patty’s thing…I would add New Years Eve as well…total fucking amateur hour.

            dude 4/20 is basically the pot smoker’s holiday. I smoke mad weed every day, just on 4/20 you end up pot luckin’ out on a hooked up bag and it’s more of an event then just a casual smoke sesh. foreal.

    I love 4/20. I wake up at 9:00 hit the 3 footer make a shit ton of food, and watch movies all day with some buddies. It’s our only tradition for the past 3 years. We all take the day off and just smoke as much weed as we can.
    We usually try to do some sort of marathon. Last year was The Matrix, year before that was all 6 Star Wars. Ended up watching the last 30 mins of Jedi with one eye so I could focus. Any suggestions from anybody what we should do this year? I’m throwing Lord of the Rings as my vote.
    Oh, and if you didn’t notice, me and my friends are big dorks, but it’s a damn good time.

      I would probably trade all 420 releases for a new Sikth album. Sometimes, I have to completely block the thought of Sikth from my mind so that I am still capable of enjoying other metal and considering other metal musicians competent.
