FAN FILMED FOOTAGE OF A NEW CYNIC SONG, “WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS”

Thursday, January 28th, 2010 at 9:24am by Axl Rosenberg

Earlier this week I hinted that there’s an awesome metal release coming out on 4/20 (besides the new Periphery album), and based on something I wrote, a bunch of you guessed that it’s the new album from Cynic. And I’m sorry to tell you that that’s not quite right.

But what’s coming out on 4/20 is gonna be awesome, and at some point real soon, I hope, we’ll get a new Cynic album, too. In the meantime, a reader known to us only as “Mario” says that his buddy Luigi Luke filmed the below footage of Cynic performing a new song, “Wheels Within Wheels,” this past Monday in Cleveland. To say it sounds promising would be to put it mildly. Enjoy!

  • Random says:

it was such a sick set, so good i left before btbam lol
they couldnt have touched that set in a million years

    • Me says:

haha that’s funny. saw the concert last night. while I am not familiar with cynic’s work, I did enjoy them. but to say that it was so sick that btbam couldn’t touch their set is laughable. just say you don’t like btbam, you don’t have to make silly comparisons.

  • myke says:

  • Garske says:

Oooh a new Cynic album would make my 420 soooo sooo awesome.

  • Bicro says:

I will support this band, even when they sell out.

When I saw them in Detroit this past Saturday they played this song. It was awesome to hear a new song from them. I had the chance to talk to Tymon later that night and he said it was their first time performing the song live.

Definitely looking forward to their EP whenever it comes out

    I CAME

Heard this last night, and it was amazing (as was the rest of their set). This video does not do it justice. Cynic drift even farther from metal, and the result is fantastic. I want to preorder this E.P.
By the way, who else here closed their eyes during Nunc Stans? That shit was amazing. Cynic’s sound feels like an ocean, washing over you.

  • Jim says:

I want some new Aeon Spoke!

    • Timbodini says:

      +1!

    • HokiePokie says:

But this stuff is like Aeon Spoke 2.0!

I’m personally all for Paul never using a vocoder as his main thing when singing in Cynic ever again. He can always do it, but I just go crazy over his true singing voice.

Cynic + Aeon Spoke mixing = Yes.

      • Jim says:

His natural voice is amazing (easily one of my favorite vocalists). And to think that part of the reason why he used effects on Focus was because he was self-conscious of his vocal abilities!

And I definitely like how this song is a healthy medium between the two bands. When I saw them in Detroit (first time they played this song) I was blown away. He went lite on the vocoder all night too, which was awesome.

  • Rachel says:

    Amazing song, as expected.

  • HokiePokie says:

Also, eh… I think this video is better quality:

I was wondering when people were going to post a video of Wheel Withing Wheels on this website >_<.

  • CYN1C says:

FUCK YES. I think it’s no secret I’m a big Cynic fan. And the new EP they hinted at should be great. Can’t fucking wait.

  • mickey luv says:

Shamone motherfucka that is good news!!

  • AreYouHereNow? says:

Well, Cynic’s EP may not be released on 420. However, one fourth of Cynic will be one third of an amazing release on 420. Is that close enough for the win?! Reinert playing drums on the Levi/Wersler – Avalanche of Worms record should be nothing short of phenomenal.

However, I imagine that MANY psychedelically influenced metal bands will save this special date for releases. So, who knows what these guys speak of. As of right now, Avalanche of Worms is at the top of my anticipated 420 albums list, not to mention albums of 2010.

Levi/Wersler Avalanche of Worms?? I cannot find a single thing on this project but am very interested in learning more on it! Any suggestions or resourses? Thanks
