I agree that DTP fucking sucks and that Cynic was amazing, but, to say that BTBAM and Scale the Summit are weak is fucking irrational.

Excluding DTP, all the bands are masters of their craft.

I was there on Ssaturday, and I was looking forward to it for months, never having seen any of the four bands before and being a huge BTBAM and Cynic fan. Before the show I was curious however because of BTBAM’s polarizing nature just how many New Yorkers were there for Cynic, BTBAM, or Devin (no offense to Scale the Summit who were fantastic) To my surprise, most answers I got included fans who were there exclusively for Devin and Cynic. One fan said he’s leaving the show after Devin and during the show, right after Cynic I overheard ‘hey bro, you staying for btbam?’ to which the response was a loud ‘hell no’

As for the article, I thought the whole show was phenomenal, but Devin was clearly the best frontman the whole night, there is simply no question. He knows how to talk to the audience, knows when to shut up and play and knows his comedic timing just enough to properly incorporate it into the set. I mean, his build up to ‘Supercrush’ was fucking awesome when it kicked in. He is one of a dying breed, a metal frontman who can talk to the crowd and virtually have everyone in the palm of his hand, but at the same time, when it comes to playing the music, he is no further away in skill. The only shame is isn’t thought of as a Halford or an Ozzy, or Dickinson, but for me he is one of the living Metal legends. Well done Devin, keep it up, and I just wish the set was longer.

Okay, so I only partially kid. However, I was ready for them to finish. Opening for three amazing bands can be a blessing, as well as a curse.

Oh, and one more thing: My bootleg footage of Hypercrush from Dallas was better! :)

saw this last night in baltimore… dev opened the show with an impromptu freestyle. lots of one-liners and crowd bashing, which was all hilarious, however the highlight was devin screaming “i suck dick for crack money” during supercrush. cynic and btbam slayed, but dev’s stage presence alone is worth the price of admission.

I live here in Devin Townsend’s home city New Westminster/Vancouver BC and he never plays here.
My friends and I would have killed to see this show..all the bands are so solid!!! FUCK!!! pisses me off man.

I saw this tour also and I have to admit I was more than disappointed with DTP, especially considering all the praise he gets around these parts… I wasn’t familiar with any of his work and I had high expectations going into the show because of all the hype I read on this blog, but once he started I just couldn’t bring myself to be that interested and my friends decided they would rather go for a smoke break than stay and watch. On the plus side he did seem like a nice dude and all, but I’m still failing to see what the hype is all about.

I find it quite odd that people love Devin Townsend. At the show in Chicago a bunch of the older crowd members loved him but all I saw was arrogance. I seriously don’t get how everyone bashes bands like BTBAM, Cynic, All Shall Perish, etc and come back and act as if some guy that is the fucking full of himself is just so damn good. Sure talking about balls, poop, blowjobs can make any of us guys giggle after the first joke but honestly to hear it for their whole set ruined any chance I could ever listen to him again.
