DEVILDRIVER’S DEZ FAFARA VS. VENUE SECURITY

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 at 11:12am by

I love videos like this, because they illustrate that being successful in the music business and being a good person don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

So. MS Suckalo Santi sent us the below vid of DevilDriver front man Dez Fafara bitching out a security guard at a show in Vancouver on January 13. You can’t see how the whole thing started, but it seems pretty clear that a kid near the front was hurt, and the security guard wasn’t helping him. So Dez takes matters into his own hands…

And, hey, while we’re on the topic of Dez, have you read my interview with him yet?

  • GOJoe

    good man!

  • Spanky

    Hell yeah! Fuck security!

  • Genial Gentile

I’ve always been turned off by Devildriver because of the mediocrity of Dez’s past work. Maybe I have misjudged.

      My thoughts exactly

Honestly, I’m listening to the new DD and I’m really surprised, in a good way. It’s way better than their previous work.

  • B-dizzle

Don’t like the band, but that was good of that dude

  • Ziltoid

    <_<

Looks like everyone is an idiot in that video. The scene kiddy, the douche security guard, and Dez "YO I'MA BEAT YOU UP" Fafara…all failures.

    • RockOutWithMy…YouKnow

Yeah, Dez is a big asshole for sticking up for his fans who help him make a living off of what he loves to do…..

      • Tim-o-tato

        My thoughts exactly :-P

      • Ziltoid

It’s not what he did to protect his fans, it’s how he did it. Not every “metalhead” has to say “fuck” as every other word. The unnecessary vulgarity and bro-ish attitude is my problem, not his otherwise good intentions.

        • http://myspace.com/obeydarklord mr_Izan

shouldn’t metal singers have a bro-ish attitude with their fans, (while they’re onstage at least)? and so what if he says fuck every other word, haven’t you ever done that when you were pissed off at someone for doing something incredibly stupid?

          • Ziltoid

No, singers should not have a bro-ish attitude. Bros are always a bad thing, as are bro attitudes. There is a difference between intelligently channeling aggression and bro-magnon-ly parading around saying that “I’MA BEAT YOU IN A FIGHT, YO!” and such.

And no, I have not done that. I’m an incredibly rational person with very good control of his temper so that it doesn’t get in the way of sensible thought, speech, or judgment. When I’m angry, I articulate just as well as I usually do. No “FUCK DAT FUCK YOU FUCK IT ALL” from me.

        • masterjake5000

Hmmmm… You sound like a pussy.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Haley/100000418183582 Nick Haley

well said masterjake. YOU DA MAN BRO!

            Fuck yeah Dez!

        • earthsherm

i don’t like bros either man but you can’t be a metalhead and expect other metalheads to be just like you. metal is about one unifying bond: the music. despite whether or not we have the same testosterone levels. dez complimented the security guards doing their job the right way. just because you have an opinion doesn’t mean others have to abide by it for you to respect them. i am a pascifist myself who considers damn and piss the foremost of his swearing vocabulary, but never would i judge anyone for being different than me. ziltoid im sick of you telling everyone how their opinio means nothing and yours is on such a higher plateau. internet self righteouness at its worst. just embrace your culture man and stop critiqing your peesrs, it only isolates you.

          • RockOutWithMy…YouKnow

Well said earthsherm. I’d go as far to say that Ziltoid displays a “bro-ish” attitude by thinking everything he says is better than what we all say. Isn’t that one of the classifications of “broism?” Believing that you are better than everybody. Be it stronger, smarter, or “trooer.”

    • timmah

Think of something new to say already.

      You’re so predictable, jeez.

      • Clancy

No shit, is anyone else done with this pedantic douchebag.Fuckin Dez did the right thing. Fuckin’ fuck.

  • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

    Haha. Sweet.

  • myke

thats pretty cool he let the kid stay on stage. dont see that too enough

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mark-Gavin/1396340262 Mark Gavin

That’s pretty funny, because when I saw them on Friday Dez was talking about how great the security were at the show, and they were being dickheads.

  • Blashyrkh

ok… Dez Fafara, and the dude from marduk. let’s compare and contrast, shall we?

    • bearbomb

Two totally different crowds and music styles. Plus, everyone knows not to cross a man in corpse paint.

      • Blashyrkh

yeah, admitedly I thought the dude who got onstage during marduk almost deserved it for being such a damn IDIOT. almost. but I think dez can be far more proud of what he did here.

  • Facebook User

seems like he is grandstanding just a tad…

  • The Overmatt

I remember the last time I saw Arch Enemy one of the security guards yanked a kid’s camera out of his hand and Angela grabbed him by the head and yelled at him to give the kid his camera back. That woman has never looked scarier.

Also props to Dez for sticking up for a fan.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Haley/100000418183582 Nick Haley

      Oh my god. thats awesome.

  • Awful Georges

I saw them last night in Montreal. Those guys deserve so much more respect than they already have. Dez is a truly good person and you see it in his performances. Always kicking ass but also giving props to the fans. Smiling, pointing, applauding. Dez is one of the coolest metalheads around.

    Long live Devildriver.

  • LeperAffinity

Which song is this is it off the new album?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mark-Gavin/1396340262 Mark Gavin

      Fate Stepped In.

  • Santi

thanks for putting this up, I knew you guys would like this.
    Cheers.

  • Romaould the Loquacious

And this is why Dez is my favorite front man out of any band. lol

  • systemsdown

I was at this show, and this was really cool. After Dez’s rant here, the stage diving must have tripled in number. Naturally I partook in such activities. One of the best shows Ive ever been to
