SHADOW GALLERY’S “GOLD DUST”: DORKIEST VIDEO EVER OF THE WEEK

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 at 10:48am by

Everything about “Gold Dust,” the new video by a band I’m not familiar with called Shadow Gallery, is so cheesy that just watching it will clog your arteries a little.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t kinda love it. It’s like Dream Theater, only with a less effeminate singer.

And, oh yeah, Will Smith’s dad is in it, which means that Will Smith’s dad has now been in a better metal video than Will Smith’s wife ever has.

i am glad to see this kind of bands posted here… Shadow Gallery is great !!

I really, really want to touch the singer’s hair. It’s immaculate, and I need to know if it’s real.

I’ve listened to these guys a bit… I can only take so much of the vocals, but they’re not bad.

  • Chris

The singer’s higher range reminds me of Symphony X more than Dream Theater. Not bad, but I think I like Dream Theater’s instrumentation better.

    • Erek

The dude sounds a lot like Geoff Tate, in my opinion.

      • Chris

        Yeah, I can see that.

      • Bob

Spot on. Even the music on this song sounds Queensryche-y

        • KilledByDeath

          Carbon copy :P

I sure hope that when I get to be grey and fat, I still have as much glorious hair as that bassist does. Hell, I’ve got a handful of greys poking from the beard as is, might find out pretty soon. Oh and I liked the song, quite a bit.

  • Dr Tizzle

    Nice wireless mics hahaha

  • Ziltoid

Shadow Gallery has always been decent, and this is no surprise. There’s a lot better stuff out there, but this is ok for what it is.

    BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY…

When I went to comment, it said I was logged in a Gerardo Martinez, a MS admin. That is certainly not my name, so do you MS monkeys know what that was about? When I refreshed the page, it changed back to normal and let me comment as Ziltoid, but it wouldn’t let me test a comment as Martinez…weird stuff…

Perhaps you really are Gerardo Martinez, kind of like the way Ed Norton was actually Tyler Durden in Fight Club.

      • Jizzmaster3000

Holy shit it’s true, Geraldo Martinez really is Ziltoid!

  • Chrispy Biscuit

The latest Shadow Gallery album doesn’t do much for me as they have a new vocalist to replace the late Mike Baker, who was the signature vocal sound of Shadow Gallery. “Carved In Stone”, “Tyranny”, and “Room V” are all worth picking up if you dig the prog.

    • battleid

I was wondering why the new vocalist. Mike Baker era is where to go for this band. His work on the Ayreon project Human Equation was good too (mike bakers that is…but so is Michael Ackerfelt’s)

This band definately has chops, ive got a few old albums, but they are so “studio” that i got turned off in the end.

  • Mike

I thought Digital Ghosts was a masterpiece. Check out my interview with Gary Wehrkamp here: http://www.metal-temple.com/interview.asp?id=640

  • Alex_P

    Nice bass. This sounds decent.

    • Alex_P

OH THAT’S RIGHT! The voice reminds me of Tim Aymar.

      • Alex_P

        Bad chorus though. Moonbeams?

  • Bob

Dude – yessss. I didn’t know anybody cared about this band. Carved In Stone and Legacy are classics!

  • JOnny fIve aces

    *sings into unplugged mic*

*hands CD to black record executive*

[unexplained shot of multicultural, female graphic art team]

*pushes fader on mixing board, band members look on with feigned interest*

What do you expect? They’re old prog metallers.

  • iolanach

Really Axl? You’ve never heard of Shadow Gallery? hmm…

  • Sammy

Shadow Gallery is to Queensryche as Showdown is to Pantera.

  • http://Listen Heather

Did you listen to the lyrics?? She ( I ) is (am) a model wandering along in despair. The song is about a woman that is torn between a past love and the love of one of the band members. Listen to the lyrics, you’ll realize it’s about patiently waiting for the opportunity to love after heartbreak.
