METALLICA + JOURNEY = ROCK SUGAR
Thursday, February 4th, 2010 at 12:40pm by Axl RosenbergReader Chris tipped us off to the existence of Rock Sugar, a band that mashes-up metal and hard rock songs with pop songs… and does so with surprising efficiency. The below video, for example, is for a lil’ ditty called “Don’t Stop The Sandman,” which combines… well, y’know. It’s kind of amazing how well it works, though!
Check out Rock Sugar on MySpace for more. I’m partial to “Shook Me Like a Prayer” myself. AC/DC + Madonna = awesome.

Fuck these guys, so much.
Thank these guys so much. Finally something brilliant for smart people out there.
Im just impressed that someone could possibly have fucked up two good songs so thoroughly. I must admit i did laugh tho – never heard somethin so goddamn stupid in my life!!!
Holy shit that sucked.
Holy shit that rocked!
they didn’t even do it in a way that made sense, that sucked so much balls its unreal
Please explain the correct way that would make sense….please tell us how you would have done it even though you would never have thought do do it or figured out how to do it had you tried.
Don’t hurt yourself guy, I’m just saying that if your going to take two good songs and combine them while offering no creative input of your own, try not to make it suck so much. It just sounds like a sampler of two songs instead of a mash-up. By the way, I do write music, not saying anyone on here would like it or that it’s great or anything, but I do have at least a base knowledge of what I’m talking about. Also, I probably wouldn’t do it, because it’s fucking stupid.
it’s really painfully obvious that they just wanted to play Don’t Stop Believing…the metallica parts are so tacked on it’s almost pointless.
“the correct way that would make sense” (ignoring the fact that there’s no “correct” way to go about this kind of thing) might be to integrate the two songs in a much more give-and-take kind of way, say by doing the sandman verses over the journey progression. or combine the two solos in a really coherent way. or sing the lyrics from the one song to the melody of the other. any of these would be more successful than playing Don’t Stop Believing with bits of the sandman riff and parts of the chorus thrown in at random.
agreed
Listen, and listen clear. You would have never thought of the idea until now, that it actually exists. So just stop all your “I would do this and why didn’t they do that”.. Its not a mash up, thats the whole point. Mash ups have been done before, this hasn’t. Its one song with multiple songs in it, that are all in the same key. Pretty much what I am trying to say is “SUCK IT”!!!!!
This is a brilliant idea with flawless execution. The musicianship doesn’t get any better and the quality is excellent. The most highly entertaining CD I’ve heard in a long time. This is definitely designed to be enjoyed by people with musical taste, education, and people who can open their selfless minds to something new. Take off your blinders people and listen to the whole CD. It is absolutely “correct and makes perfect sense”. Maybe not for the mindless haters with no I.Q whatsoever. Why would anyone sing the lyrics from one song to the melody of the other….that’s just idiotic! JOnny five aces above is exactly the definition of the mindless follower who thinks he knows what he is talking about. But doesn’t. This CD includes over 30 of the greatest songs ever written in such brilliant arrangements like you’ve never heard before. How could this not be a smash hit. Where’s your imagination and humor?
Anybody that thinks that this is not the freshest thing that has come out in a long time, has no imagination or humor whatsoever. Free your minds… the rest will follow and maybe for once you will enjoy something in your worthless lives!
JOnnyfiveaces, you obviously didn’t buy the CD. The song “Shook Me Like a Prayer” has heavy ACDC guitars under Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” as an example…and most of the music and the CD is arranged most brilliantly like that. Some songs have three songs infused together all in the same key’s and tempos. utterly brilliant. I dare you to find the ‘Stairway to Heaven” guitar solo!
They used another Journey song too. I think Journey works because it’s already a mixture of pop and hard rock.
This is pretty lame.
“We Will Kickstart Your Rhapsody” is much better.
it’s not bad, but it’s another stupid gimmick / cash-in of humor and rock music. you have beatallica, ten masked men, steel panther / metal skool, and others who do it well. i don’t think it sucks as far as their performance, but i agree that it’s not very imaginative.
plus… there are so many cover bands out there, it’s unbelievable. here in london they prey on residency at bars and shit like vultures.
fuck cover bands (albeit it being a good way to make money). support original music.
if you don’t hire a cover band, your only choice is to hire a live dj, and who wants that right?
Okay Nickmeister, then go buy their “original” CD “Loud & Clear-Disc-connected”. You can find it at CDbaby .com. Put your money where your mouth is!
this is neat but i envisioned the melody of one with the heaviness of the other. not just two half-covers sutured together.
Hi narcopolypse, you obviously didn’t buy the CD. I personally like Straight to Rock City and I have no idea why.
Well, I bet it sounded good when they were stoned.
Thumbs down
Which one was the pop song?
The “Journey” one, silly!
well at least they have Yngwie playing guitar for them…
ain’t got nothin’ on Madonna + Carcass
I’m just surprised it actually worked… I love the guy’s voice though. He’s got a powerhouse in his voice box.
I’d like to see this live.
Can you imagine how much hot pussy would be at that show bro?
Sorry, I turned into a guido for a second.
Probably would be a fun time though!
the singer was the voice of wacko warner from animaniacs , to anyone who was conscious in the 90s
I like the alternative tones on the intro, other wise its ‘ok’
i didnt know marty friendman tried to be a singer
i think this is pretty fucking cool
IF THESE GUYS ARE FAMOUS THEN ILL PUT THE NEAREST EMOTIONAL BAND NEXT DOOR IN THE ROCK’N ROLL HALL OF FAME FUCK THIS SHIT.. RIP OFF BAND… JESUS CHRIST WILL REVIVE AND BRING ABOMINATION TO EARTH THANKS TO THIS GUYS
Hey, Dario Lozada… find the nearest emotional band next door and put them in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame…these guys are gonna be huge!!! Also, i have a number for a really good psychiatrist! Rip off band they are not… they pay tribute to some of the greatest songs ever written and performed every note themselves adding there own “re-imaginings”. You just don’t get it. Finally, if you are into the “Jesus” thing, you should not be using foul language and anybody with any sense of religion would remember: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. You are nothing but a selfish, ignorant hypocrite. Please keep your stupid comments to yourself or at least post some positive criticism…”let’s see if you can finish this sentence moron: If you don’t have anything nice to say….. Did your Mother really raise you like that….she would be ashamed of you!
