SCION ROCK FEST TICKET GIVEAWAY

Thursday, February 4th, 2010 at 10:40am by

scion rock fest 2010The lineup for this year’s Scion Rock Fest speaks for itself — Cannibal Corpse, Shrinebuilder and Voivod headline — and as if that and the 20+ other awesome bands on the bill weren’t enough, the event is completely FREE! But here’s the thing; even though you can currently RSVP on Scion Rock Fest’s website, you won’t be able to do so for long because the word from Scion is that those tickets are just about gone. Fortunately we’ve got a guaranteed pair of tickets to give away that will still be available even once the initial round of freebies have been slurped up.

So, to win your pair of tickets, here’s what we want you to do: leave a comment — with a valid email address that you check frequently — telling us which band on this year’s lineup you absolutely MUST see and why. In case you forget the awesome list of bands just look at the above flyer or the printed list of bands after the jump. We’ll pick our favorite and contact the winner on Friday, February 26th.

  • Double D

Why isn’t Death on the flyer?

    • lordassenfroth

as much as i love death, i dont see them playing anytime soon in the mortal realm…maybe on some ethereal plane of existance, which i would happily die to attend

    • Facebook User

i was confused too, it was Lightning Sword of Death and the “death” was margined incorrectly

    • stu1

      Because they’re not playing??

  • Thrashbuster

fuckin solid lineup. Wish it came closer.

  • Skeletonwitchcraft

so when does that ACRASSICAUDA album come out? looking forward to that.

  • Pete

The ultimate MUST for me is Shrinebuilder. Got to see them once in 2009, and it was the best damn show I saw all year. Any chance to see them should never be passed up, especially for free.

  • 6infinite6hatred6

I absolutely MUST see Magrudergrind this year.
    1. I cannot see them on their new tour because it’s 18+.
    2. Magrudergrind is definitely one of the hardest and most entertaining bands in the business, and their lyrics kick ass.
    3. Maybe I’ll get them to sign my vinyl copy of ‘Rehashed,’ which is one of my favorite all time grind/thrashcore records.
    4. I’ve seen videos of their performances. They tear some serious shit up.
    5. I wanna get up on stage and eagle scream all the words to ‘Emo Holocaust.’

  • John

I must see Brutal Truth, because I’ve liked them for a long time, most of which they weren’t doing anything…

Don’t give the tickets to me though, I’ve had mine reserved since the day they went up.

  • TomB

    ABSU.

I need to see cannibal corpse. They are the lifeblood of my being. Living in utah, it’s not often that they come around, what with this being an extremely conservative state and all. Last time they plowed the corpsewagon through, they played at a 21+ bar! Missing CC for such a stupid reason as age is devastating to a guy who literally watches the full Centuries of Torment DVD 3-5 times a week, and practices Cannibal Corpse songs all day. C’mon guys, not only would you be giving an unfortunate Cannibal Corpse fan his ultimate wish, but you’d be giving said fan and a friend an awesome road trip to the venue, filled with adventure… And that is something movies have told me is an amazing experience for a college student and his friends!

    • stu1

They didn’t come through this fall with Hatebreed or last summer on Mayhem?

      • http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/46e389eb8b79606050d3d447431ff6ac?s=80 Nate

Nope. MayhemFest skips Utah ALL the time, and the tour with hatebreed was a no-go either. Last time, they came through and I missed them there were with The Faceless and Obscura. You have NO clue how hardcore brain-thrashing it is to have to miss a show that amazing for bullshit like being too young. Utah has these retarded laws over liquor… We have a bunch of dry counties, and bars/clubs in Salt Lake are so overly-regulated it’s insane. I swear to god if you’re around my age and are within 100 ft of a beer bottle you’ll get arrested.

Ahhhh, to say that I NEED TO SEE SHRINEBUILDER is an understatement. Living in the Black Hole of metal (Miami, Fl) I don’t get to see any bands that I’m into, all we have a geriatric deathcore/hardcore bands, of course their are the exceptions (Ex: Torche, Shitstorm, Mehkago NT, Maruta,) but granted these bands don’t play that much. Last year’s Scion Rock Fest was a wet dream come true to me; my Woodstock I called it, every single band was one that I wanted to see. After RSVPing and getting extremely hyped up, the day before I was going to leave to the ATL, my ride, who happens to be a friend of mine who’s not really into metal, decides to bail on me under the excuse that he has “no insurance”. Shrinebuilder is a band that ever since I heard the first note of “Solar Benediction” I was hooked, they seem to encapsulate EVERYTHING I look for in music: melody, hints of spiritual influences, and of course CRUSHING heaviness. I highly doubt, living in Miami that I’ll ever get the chance to see them. So please, get me out of this house/electronic/rave music heaven and allow me to get some more metal in my life!!

  • JOnny fIve aces

I’d go for Ludicra. too bad it’s in Ohio

    • JOnny fIve aces

oh, and that’s the only band I’d go for. even cannibal corpse’s live show gets boring and predictable after a while.

  • TurdFerguson

I’d love to see Voivod for what could possibly be the last time. I’ve only seen them once and that was way back on the Nothingface tour with Faith No More and Soundgarden opening for them and Voivod blew them away. I still tip my 40 to Piggy nightly.

  • Ajax

Guys, just include a pie chart. You’ll win, promise.

  • Amanda

I want to see Voivod. Being only 18, I missed out on the peak of thrash metal. I heard Voivod’s cover of Pink Floyd’s “Astronomy Domine” recently on Metal Mania and I loved it. I decided to get Nothingface after that. I liked the mix of prog and thrash in their metal. Now that they are breaking up, I would like to see them for the first and last time.

  • Glorious Johnson

does anyone know if you can still get will call tickets to this? it will only let me select a location to pick them up which is not happening for me until the day of the show

  • Tanner

I need to see Hate Eternal again because the last time i saw them i headbutted in the face and missed some of the set. Last time Cannibal Corpse came through it was at a 21+ venue so I missed that (tears*) and I want to see shrinebuilder because they are shrinebuilder. Also, I want an Ipad. GIVE ME ONE!!

  • Romaould the Loquacious

DUDE! I have to see Cannibal Corpse. I’m a classic kinda guy like that and I love Cannibal Corpse, both as the Barnes and Fisher manifestations, and they always have an awesome live show. If I did get the pair of tickets, I’d have to drive across the country to see this particular show, but it’d be fucking worth it to see such an epic line up. lol

  • Brandon

I’m gonna play the underdog here and say Saviours, and this is why… I saw them here in Memphis last year at a little joint, and they played for maybe 30-45 minutes. The reason? The drummer was playing hurt, as champions do, with a disgusting combo of vomiting and diarrhea brewing in the tummy. I appreciated his resolve, and the jokes that his bandmates cracked at his expense, but I feel like I got cheated out of at least 30 minutes of headbang, since the poor guy sprinted from his drum kit at the end of the set to the back to empty his system… Get me to Columbus, so I can see a healthy, non-shitting or hurling band slay!

    • stu1

      They tour all the time.

  • Daniel N.

I HAVE to see Shrinebuilder. It’s fucking SHRINEBUILDER!!!!!!

  • Masonic Wehrmacht

I must see Black Tusk so I can cum buckets, and then dump those buckets all over fucking scenesters for ruining my line of sight.

  • g

I need to see Acrassicauda because I certainly wouldn’t pay to see them, but I want to be able to say I’ve seen an Iraqi band.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Emmanuel-Quinones/100000463639580 Emmanuel Quinones

i d0nt wannA sEe any oth0S3 baNdzz cuz their GAYY

  • Wildman

Well, I can’t pick one band.
There are too many bands on here that I MUST see for me to pick just one.

I mean, Shrinebuilder (THE doom metal experience), Pelican, 3 Inches of Blood (They formed in my hometown of Vancouver, but played in bars and I could never see them), Thou (making their way to the pinnacle of sludge).

Essentially, there isn’t one band on this Festival that I need to see… I need to see ALL the bands on this festival!!!!!!

I would beg (but… you know, that’s not TR00), so instead I will bug the Norse Gods sitting in the Metalsucks offices to have mercy on my soul and send me to the VALHALLA that is SCION ROCK FEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/masticator1 Masticatormike

I must see absu….do i really need an explanation? Its Fucking absu!

  • Mr Garland

I must see Magrudergrind because they are the first band to come out in a long time to get me truly excited about seeing them live.

  • JustGrimace

I need to see Acrassicauda because from the moment I heard about them, I have been supporting and following them in the hopes that they make it over to this country and get a chance to live their lives the way they choose.

I have two more reasons: You guys told me I won the Flight 666 contest, but never sent me the DVD; also, I know a chick who likes Cannibal Corpse, and those tickets would likely help me get laid.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jamal-Mohmed/663730590 Jamal Mohmed

I must see this show because I’ve been a long time fan of Absu. Since the beginning of high school I remember looking up black metal on the library computers and finding out about Absu. Shrinebuilder and Pelican are two bands I absolutely need to see also, just because they are amazingly bad ass and seeing them live would contribute to the band me and my friends are trying to start up. Gotta look for inspiration somewhere! But if it’s just one band I have to pick, Absu for sure. I’ve been blaring their new CD since it came out, it was a major achievement in US black/thrash metal, regardless of how much sense the lyrics make haha. Oh, another good reason is I’ll have to make a roadtrip from Oklahoma to Ohio to see the show. And I willl make a hell roadtrip out of it, don’t think I wont. ;D

  • Mike Connor

The band i want to see most on Scion Rock fest is Absu. I’ve been into them for about 5 years, and the one time the came through to philly it costed 40 dollars and I didn’t have that kind of money, and i met my girlfriend because she was wearing an absu t-shirt.

  • Terry Light

I definitely have to see Pelican.
They are one of the most progressive instrumental bands to date, and they are quite innovative for being so minimalistic at times. Austrialasia changed my life. Plus, my mom and my band already has tickets, but I don’t. I’ll never be able to live this one down if they make it and I don’t.

  • Gary M. Spencer

The band I really want to see at Scion Rock Fest is ABSU! I missed them on their tour last year, and I’ve been playing the hell out of their comeback record that came out on Candlelight not too long ago (and their older material is damn good too). One thing I really admire about ABSU is you can’t easily slot or categorize their metal subgenre – they are an interesting mix of BM, death and a little thrash for good measure. Proscriptor’s lyrics and vocals are insane and I’d love to see him do this s***t live while bangin’ the skins as fast as possible. As much as I dig their records, I bet live that they’re even more killer. So if I were to win these tickets, you bet your ass I will be right up front for ABSU’s set.

On what happened to be one of the hottest days of summer (side note: I took a trip to the hospital three days prior and was prescribed steroids for a serious case of strep throat.. in bold type on steroid prescription: avoid heat and direct sunlight for seven days), I ventured into the pit ready to rage for CANNIBAL CORPSE. Completely sweaty: yes; Fucking angry: yes; Glowsticks and a polyester pant-suit: Never in my twenty two years would I have envisioned it. My first experience at a Cannibal Corpse show was spent stuck next to a guy who raved with glowsticks. To each his own I suppose, but clad in a black polyester get up with buttons that resembled saber tooth tiger teeth only to have the entire crowd more focused on this guy than Mr. Corpsegrinder threatening anyone who came near him a swift kick in the face, took a toll on what I had envisioned as one of my most metal moments. I need to see Cannibal Corpse again and redeem my previous experience that I can only remember as that time at Mayhem fest when the guy with glowsticks was raving to metal. Not to mention, by the time you’re reading this I will have already purchased my airline ticket to Columbus, Ohio and I live in New York.. with no current guarantee of getting in!

    • Jake

My must see is Cannibal Corpse, because well……IT’S FUCKING CORPSE!!!!! THAT’S BABY STOMPIN’ SHIT RIGHT THERE!!!!
