SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE BUILDS TIME MACHINE, CAPTURES FOOTAGE OF AXL ROSENBERG’S DAUGHTER’S WEDDING

My good friend Rob at Metal Injection thinks that “SNL was actually pretty good this week,” and while I love Rob, I have to violently disagree: a friend and I watched the show when we were so blitzed that watching SNL actually seemed like a good idea, and I think we still only laughed two or three times. And I’m sorry, but Them Crooked Vultures are lame.

One of the better sketches, though, was the below, which… well, the less you know about it beyond that fact that Dave Grohl is in it, the better. Suffice it to say, the evidence is growing that there’s at least one writer at SNL who knows what’s up. If anyone knows who that writer is, please drop me a line. I’d love to interview him or her and ask if they think the show might ever actually be good again.

NOTE: I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with the video embed, but you can watch the skit here.

I’ll say that the new cast is good and I think that many of the episodes released within the last year are very funny… but this one wasn’t that great. Agreed.

SNL was never funny to begin with. At all. Yet, I love it, because It’s funny when you let it be funny. Granted, some bits work better than others, but there’s never really a huge difference in quality. People complain when the actors mess up and start laughing or something, but I think those are the best ones. It’s like watching a bunch of dudes having fun with a video camera and a giant bag of props.

Also, I wouldn’t call TCV lame, they’re not as great as they could have been, but it’s still some solid rock, and a hell of a lot better than most of what’s out there.

according to his wikipedia page, fred armisen used to play drums for a band called trenchmouth, kinda noise-punk stuff. the music itself is alright, but he’s actually a pretty gnarly drummer. go figure.

hooray for hulu only working in the US!

Only thing about SNL that makes me laugh nowadays is MacGruber. The one with Shia LaBouf (sp?) was hilarious. Having said that, I’m guessing the MacGruber movie is going to suck immensely.

Yeah, TCV is lame. I saw the show and it was like Dave was playing Nirvana songs, and the rest of the dudes are playing QOTSA songs. No thanks.

      What a dumb comment.

Hardcore punk fans should note that it was the “Cadena-Norton wedding”, which is a nod to two classic SST bands/artists (Black Flag/Dez Cadena and Husker Du/Greg Norton). GET THE REFERENCE.

    LOL that was good

“And I’m sorry, but Them Crooked Vultures are lame”

Are you fucking high or fucking retarded? I’m going to guess the latter..

    • SonOF

No, I’d say he’s dead-on. Another shitty “super-group,” proving ONCE AGAIN that throwing a bunch of talented musicians together does NOT necessarily equal a good end product.

anyone know what the 411 on the song is? old-school tune? expertly written true-to-form parody?

Except that a REAL Black Flag show would get broken up by the pigs.
