GET YOUR FIRST GLIMPSE OF THE NEW DECAPITATED LINEUP PLAYING LIVE

Decapitated have been roaming the UK for the past week for their first tour with their newly minted lineup. Though the new members of Decapitated had some pretty big shoes to fill — not that stepping in for dead or injured band members is ever easy — I think that most Decapitated fans are pretty curious and optimistic about how this new lineup will play out.

MS reader Seb S. was at last night’s show at the O2 Academy Islington in London, the final show of their 8-date UK trek with Kataklysm (Kataklysm skipped this London show). Seb filmed the first two songs of the set and was kind enough to upload his handiwork and send us a link.

So far so good, I guess? It’s always hard to tell from these fan-filmed videos, but the band sounds tight. It looks they’re having a good time and the audience does too.

Ahhh music to my ears — the new drummer has kind of a cool take on Vitek’s parts

    Kataklysm was there.

I was there, it was not too bad. I don’t really dig the new guy though, I kinda think they’ve taken a step back. The new singer’s vocal style is very death metal, but visually he looks like he’d fit in with some of the later 90s ‘loose’ death metal bands like Slapdash and Lost Souls. Their intro tape wouldn’t have been out of place on a Kill II This record, and their guitarist has definately changed his tone for some of the older stuff. He was playing on a Dime signature Washburn and you could hear echo’s of Dime’s in some of his solos. The last line up would have blown everyone out the water had that terrible accident not happened. I could be wrong of course, but only time will tell.

Kataklysm on the other hand are possibly the most mediocre death metal band on the circuit. Way overrated in my opinion. Some of their lyrics are just totally laughable… ‘spill your blood in heaven’ ? ‘the vultures are watching’… something about ‘slithering’ ? Super gay.

I’m a huge fan of Kataklysm (rather than a huge kataklysm fan, brings up images of beer guts and bad personal hygiene) but am it seems the only one who agrees that the song you are referring to (“As I Slither”) is far from their best. Everyone else seems to love it though.

I like the new line-up for Decapitated (having seen them with both previous line-ups) and thought that live the new drummer was really, really impressive, as was the bassist.

Not totally sold on the new singer yet, though he has a lot of power. Then again it seems like i’m the only one who REALLY didn’t rate Covan at all, so see the new guy (with a more traditional death growl) as a real improvement.

Its good to see vogg carrying on and not pulling a vinnie paul (forming a horrible band). Good for him. Band sounds pretty good live too.

I’m glad Vogg finally decided to kick-start Decapitated again; like he has said before, it’s what Vitek would’ve wanted him to do.

    I support this!

i never cared for this band, but their main guitarist is also of Lux Occulta, who have several cool releases, my favorite being Dionysus, which can be compared to Nokturnal Mortem’s debut, Lunar Poetry.
    run-on sentences are metal.

I’m stoked for a new album and tour. I was supposed to see em here in Montreal a few years back but it was only a week before they were supposed to play that the accident occured.

    I support this lineup!
