THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER’S TREVOR STRNAD TAKES A PAGE FROM THE SEBASTIAN BACH PLAYBOOK
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 at 3:26pm by Axl RosenbergWhy would Trevor Strnad punch this kid in the face? That’s the only thing I can keep asking myself after viewing the below video, which The PRP posted last night:
I mean, it doesn’t seem like the kid did anything that warrants a punch, other than touch Strnad. But Strnad’s the lead singer of a metal band – he must be used to kids reaching out and touching him while he’s on stage all the time, right? So was Strnad just startled, and his karate action punch mechanism kicked in on instinct? When we interviewed him last year, he seemed like the most laid-back dude in the world. But that was a ten minute interview – it’s not like I know the guy. So maybe I’m just making excuses for him ’cause I wanna like him.
In any case, watch for The Black Dahlia Murder to tour with Marduk sometime soon.

Like I always say, never trust a guy whose name has four consonants in a row.
I was gonna say, “maybe that kid was the one that stole all his vowels”
I work with a dude who has 5.
He drinks a lot.
the food in england sucks. i get it.
The food in england is basically the same as in the US, westernised Mediterranean food, US junk food and Spanish food. Obviously there are local dishes, but y’know, they’ll never be as good as pizza.
I know you were probably being tongue in cheek, but you never can tell over the internet!
And pizza is american is it?! And like we dont serve pizza over here in the uk?! The food over here is amazing compared to the shit i’ve eaten in the US
wow, you completely misunderstood what i was saying. From what I’ve tasted in terms of American food, it has been pretty shitty, but i haven’t been so i can’t judge. And for the record dude i live in London.
I don’t know where you ate in the US, but my time in the UK, the US had far better food, overall. And the modern concept of “pizza” is essentially American.
yeah. i’ve never been to england. i would have said that about if that’s where this took place. :-)
People always think their food is better in their home than others. But honestly, UK food is horrible. Any other country in the world and i’m stoked to eat the food. I went to England, fearing the food, and let me tell you… i was right.
If you only like meat, potatoes, and fish, you’re in heaven. I mostly ate BLT’s at M&S and the British version of Lays (can’t remember the brand name, but it is owned by Pepsico but has a different name).
I would have lost weight, but I drink more beer than i ate over there. Made the lack of food tolerable.
All this talk of food in England and no mention of curry? I smell FRAUDS WHO DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!
wait is that tour thing true or is it because of the whole marduk flipping incident? and either way he seemed kinda startled and the way he looked back it looked like he didn’t really mean to react that way. just a heat of the moment sort of thing? but then again, i want to love him too. idk.
If you watch the video closer the kid pinches Trevor’s lucious man nips. And I’m sure in the moment he probably clamped down a little hard. In my book that warrants a punch in the god damn face!
Yeah, that’s what a lot of the comments on the video from people who were at the show are saying. The dude grabbed Trevor’s manboob, and he didn’t take too kindly to it. I don’t think I would either.
Now that you mention it, it does look like he is pinching his nip. I met Trevor outside a show once and he was a real down to earth guy. Even went out of his way to greet a buddy of mine and reach out his hand for a shake (my friend doesn’t even like TBDM but that’s neither here nor there). Back on topic; if someone pinched my nipple on stage I’d have done the same thing. At the very least I would have pushed him the hell away from me. If that is really what went down then the kid deserved it.
Trevor looks like he kind of felt bad about it immediately after he punches him too…like he just reacted to the nipple pinch the same way most of us would, then regretted it right after it happened
look at the video comments, the dude that got punched said he deserved it.
Maybe I am blind, but it doesn’t look like he really hit the kid all that hard. You can see the kid jump into the crowd and he looks fine. There was a time when kids would break their noses, and dislocate their shoulders, and would keep enjoying the show. I knew the new generation was weak when they put all that padding on the playgrounds. Why you young whipper snappers!
Purple Nurple is the most painful thing in the world next to child birth. It was deserved.
This wasn’t bad at all, that shit probably didn’t hurt at all. Kid didn’t deserve it.
I’m not sure about the moob theory, but when I was at their show, some kid got on stage and wanted to sing along into Trevor’s mic, Strandt did’nt take it kindly so he pushed the guy off stage, and you could hear trevor go say “get offa me, man”.
So I assume that Trevor is too fond of his microphone and wants not to share it with anyone, not even for a sing along. While Despised Icon, Whitechapel and other bands that performed that night, had absolutely no problem with giving their microphone to someone from the crowd or to someone who got on stage.
Neither of the dudes from Despised Icon and the dude from Whitechapel are at a level that Trevor is at nor do they say half as many words as Trevor, so they would be more willing to share. Anyways wanting to hop on a mic at a show and sing is retarded as it is. People didn’t pay to come see some amateur douche try and sing to one of their favorite bands.
Anyone who wants to get near a microphone thats used regularly should look at one under bright light prior to going near one on a dark stage. The crusty lung butter buildup is making me gag at the thought of it.
On A computer where I cannot see what happened and comment on this.
But I will comment that I met and hung out with all the BDM guys after a show in Guelph this fall. It was the second time I met Trevor and he is a laid back, down to earth guy. We talked for 30-40 minutes, partied it up with Skeletonwitch and everything. He was like that both times I’ve seen them so I can only say from a personal standpoint, that he’s a great dude. Especially since he is kind of stuck on groundhog day and does the same thing day after day. Gotta respect a guy that takes that kind of time with his fans.
I will have to wait to see the video but either way, Trevor and the rest of the BDM are great with the fans
Totally agreed. BDM are from Detroit and that’s where I’m from as well and I can honestly say they are all down to earth guys. Even when they come and play in Detroit and have all of their friends and family there, they’re still out in the audience talking to every fan who wants to meet them. They’ve always been like that, even when I used to go and see them in basements. Great group of guys!
Dude is super nice, kid definitely deserved it.
Dude, if you hook me up with a purple nurple and i dont know you- you’re catchin a Two-piece to the Jaw.
Does that even qualify as a punch? I’m just seeing some arm and gesticulating that the kid kind of wanders into.
That happens all the time,
Do people grab your titties?
Saw the video. The kid grabbed his boob for sure. That’s pure disrespect. Sure, do it to your buddy when you are slamming beers at your apartment or party. But not to a performer who is trying to entertain your punk ass and everyone else at the venue.
Axl makes it out like he viciously went after the kid for no reason.
P.S. It was barely a punch, the kid was fine. He deserved more.
Hey guys, just googled the video to see what other sites it had appeared on. Pretty startled to be fair. Anyways, I was the one that filmed this and the guy did pretty much grab his nipple, I’d be pissed too. Right in the middle of a song and some douchebag grabs you, not on. I mean, loads of people were getting up and stagediving and some got in the way, Trevor would give them a tiny nudge in the back to tell them to move or whatever so he probably was a bit annoyed, but then that ass jumped on stage and grabbed him..not on. Just thought I’d clarify what happened. Kinda shocked this has over 3000 views already. Thanks for spreading the awesomeness around!
LONG LIVE TBDM! :D
its not like the guy went fuckin GG Allin on the guy, I’m sure it was just a knee jerk reaction to some dumb fuck getting too close while he was in the proverbial “zone”
nowhere near as bad as the marduk thin…..or as funny.
my band years and years ago played with them in some basement in the outskirts of detroit, He was a super nice guy though they didn’t like us, we sucked and were jerks(ah to be young again). So…. what were we talking about?
He’s in his element. He’s up there giving 100% and doesn’t want anyone to fuck it up. He lets crowd surfers on stage: that alone is better than half the metal bands out there right now.
I hate to play this card, but ever since what happened to Dimebag, those kids shouldn’t expect every musician to be really friendly to them if they jump up on stage, especially if it’s while they’re performing.
Did that kid deserve to be punched? No, I don’t think anyone deserves to be punched at a show. But when you’re playing and someone unseen to you comes up and starts putting their hands on you, what can you expect to happen?
edit: okay, he did grab Trevor’s delivious manboob, so maybe he did deserve a punch. :D
I agree with pretty much everything you said. I think if the band is kind enough to let kids fly onto stage, they reserve the right to do whatever they need to do to protect themselves/maintain order (at least ensure there is room on stage for the band).
I really like your name.
Weird, I was face to face with Trevor at their show in Fargo for THE ENTIRE SET and i kept getting pushed into him (it was at a bar, there was no barrier) and he would put the mic up to me and have me scream into it…
I hung out with the band before and after the show too and they were all awesome dudes.
He must’ve been having a shitty day.
The kid looked like he loved the fist.
He deserved it.
This is a whole lotta nada. Besides, after the punch (a light one at that), he goes right back to stage diving, with no look of pain on his face. And do you think worse happens to him when he goes back in the pit?
BTW, I’ve met Trevor on a couple of occasions and he’s always been SUPER nice with fans, and signs everything that’s put in front of him. So I don’t think this reflects on his character in any way.
That little queef gave him a purp nurp
That doesn’t really look like a serious punch to the face, it looks more like a shove.
Yup, looked more like a shove to me. I don’t know, I guess growing up with more of a hardcore (than metal) background, I am used to kids practically wrestling lead singers to the ground trying to grab the mic for singalongs. In those cases, with no barricades/security, especially when it’s a band that happens to have a huge following playing in a venue that’s way too small for them, the singer basically does whatever necessary to protect himself.
On one occasion, I remember seeing some dude kick Vision of Disorder lead singer Tim Williams in the face (hard), as he was crowd surfing/trying to get on stage. Williams was not pleased (to say the least), and as the kid was trying to get back to his feet (still sort of on top of people), Williams blasted him in the face with the mic on a full swing. Mic was dropped, crowd sang the rest of “Choke” without Williams. But this was at a close to riot-level show with no security, unlike the TBDM clip above, where shit looked generally in control. Probably a bit of an overreaction by Strnad, but not too big of a deal. On a side note, although this has probably been addressed, Strnad needs to put a fucking shirt on once in a while.
This is Trevor’s job, and I’m sure if someone came to my job (or yours) and did anything remotely stupid like that while I (or you) was working they’d get more than a two piece to the face. Also with the shit that when down w/ Dimebag Darrell (R.I.P.) can you really blame him when some fucking goofball comes at you and not defend yourself? … Seriously WTF?
The thing is, as part of the job description/risks for “vocalist of an extreme metal/hardcore act,” one expects “fans climbing onstage, flying around, diving for the mic, etc.” This is not usually the case for most other jobs.
The shit with Dime was obviously a tragedy, but that can be remedied by searching people for weapons before they enter a venue. If there isn’t a weapon involved, metal/hardcore vocalists should know it comes with the territory, and be able to keep shit under control. For the most part (99.9% of cases), the people that get on stage with their favorite band don’t want to hurt any band members.
Like others said, it was more of a closed-fist shove than a punch. I’ve seen much worse at metal shows.
That was a love tap. I think it was only a “punch” because he had his hand clasped around the microphone.
The front man for Marduk fucking arm flipped a drunk dude. That was much more hilarious.
It must have been just a shove, the kid doesnt even look hurt or offended.
nice… i was at that show. the faceless, necrophobic, and 3 inches of blood took the cake that night.
Trevor is the nicest guy ever. It would take a lot for him to punch someone. I was so damn drunk when I met him I probably should have been punched in the face myself, but he was super nice, and did not punch me.
….kid deserved it.
i think he was probably just really drunk lol
The kid got on stage and basically gave Trevor a titty twister with both hands, to both nipples, on stage of all places. Not sweet. I’d hit anyone that did that to me.
