AUDIO OF MY CONFUSING INTERVIEW WITH ANDREW W.K.

We received numerous requests from readers to post the audio of the phone interview I did with Andrew W.K. a couple of weeks back in which I sought to clarify the conspiracy theories surrounding He Who Parties Hard. While some people probably want to compare his voice to other interviews that are floating around online, I think most people are just curious to hear the tone and inflection in his voice, the things that typically get lost on the (e)-printed page.

And that’s what was most interesting about this interview. After reading it, it’d be easy to assume that Andrew is just a dumbass incapable of covering his own sloppy misteps; but when you listen to the audio you’ll find that this is clearly not the case. Andrew is smart, articulate, and his answers are very well-thought out. Which makes everything all that much more baffling.

    Bottomline: I agree with Vince’s take. Andrew did/is perpetuating the rumor. Or he is NOT the original Andrew W.K.. He didnt believe that the original interview would get released and that the rumor would get spred but he would never have to admit it because the interview wouldnt of been out there. But, the interview did get released so now he has to answer these questions like this.

    Clearly, something isn’t right but I could care less because I don’t like his music; if I did I think this wouldn’t sit well with me.

      Of course he’s perpetuating the rumor, that he probably started in the 1st place. Once again, a desperate action by a desperate artist with nothing else going on.

        I don’t get people saying Andrew WK has “nothing else going on”. Dude is headlining the whole Warped tour, has a TV show on Cartoon Network, and was just on The Simposons playing the theme song at the very start of the show.
        If people are going to say he’s not doing anything, they should at least do their homework first. The only thing that seems desperate about Andrew are his efforts to convince people thay he’s real.

    I think it’s pretty clear that the interviewer and Andrew are often talking about different things here. At the beginning I think Andrew is talking about like someone pretending to be him for a party and getting paid for it or something? And then that he’s been told a lot of things on how and what to tell the public in general, but that he isn’t just speaking for that mysterious someone else? I’m not sure since I really haven’t paid attention to Andrew WK…

    But still, the interviewer should’ve just made it absolutely clear what the rumor is he’s talking about, right at the beginning. Interview failed.

    Man it sure must be nice to completely sidestep questions, virtually beat around the bush for an entire interview, and then profit off of these bullshit conspiracy theories.

    Personally, I think he is a funny dude, but his music has nothing to offer for me. This whole thing is tiring.

    What exactly IS the situation, I dont’ really care too much ’bout AWK, but I see something about a conspiracy w/ his name on it for a while, so…. what gives?

      What gives is that he told a bunch of people at some panel interview thing that he isn’t the original Andrew WK. He basically said that he became the character in ’05 after some horrible set of circumstances and now he doesn’t want to come right out and say it because supposedly that interview was not supposed to go public.

      I love his music, mostly the first album. My old band even covered Party Hard just for fun. He should put out a new album of music like his first album.
