HAPPY ST. VINCENTINE’S DAY

Yes, today is some shitty holiday designed to make you buy Hallmark cards and remind couples that have been together for too long that they should get around to fucking again. (“Has it been a year already? Okay, I’ll go get the cialis.”) It’s also Vince’s birthday! And even though he’s in Egypt (!) and won’t even see this post until late next week (any posts you read from him this week were written in advance of his departure), it seems only appropriate to pay homage to my oldest and bestest friend on this, his day of birth. So here’s a song that’s appropriate for Valentine’s Day and that I know Vince would approve…

      Time will tell if it’s a true vacation or if it’s a scouting of the Egyptian metal scene. Perhaps Egyptian metal is only authentic if it’s straight from the horse’s (camel’s?) mouth in Egypt. Then again, it might require authentic instruments. This reminds me of when Dethklok messed around with the acoustic instruments.

          Pantera is as good as metal will ever get. No one can even touch the albums they made in the 90s. Now as far as extreme music is concerned, there’s been an entire generation of fantastic music since that blows Pantera out of the water in terms of innovation and intensity. But when it comes to pure, undiluted metal that’s as catchy as chlamydia yet just as vicious, NO ONE BEATS PANTERA.

            That said, I enjoyed the Cowboys From Hell and Power Metal albums quite a bit. Any album after that… not so much.

    Dude why do we have to get into this every time Pantera is brought up? Maybe it’s an age thing, maybe it’s a geographical thing i don’t know. I personally didn’t get into Pantera until pretty late, i was 18 or 19…I’m 27 now, from Socal,dont live in my parents basement, and have actually felt a woman’s touch (many a time), but i feel that aside from the early Sabbath, Maiden, Priest etc… Pantera along with Metallica (who everyone also seems to hate here) are the 2 best and most important metal bands ever. If you dont dig them whatever fine, but i just don’t get the hatred. Both bands are greater than the sum of their parts, and each have a handful of albums that are truly classic records that i will always love. I understand it’s cooler to say that your favorite bands are Necrophagist or Amon Amarth but just because Pantera got popular doesn’t make them any less heavy. Pantera fuckin kills, RIP Dimebag. 143 Metallica. I’m done

      I’m sorry that you’ve decided to stop reading the blog… my intention is merely to gather a number of different contributors with different musical tastes together. Although I may not necessarily agree with Ziltoid’s musical tastes all the time, or his attitude, there’s no denying that he has a strong opinion and an interesting way of stating that opinion. He’s a very good writer who just has polarizing and extreme views on music, and I think he will make a good addition to the site.

      But hey, you’re entitled to your opinion just as much as he’s entitled to his. If you don’t want to read my blog because he’s a contributor, that’s your decision and I respect that. Personally, I’m curious to see what he will come up with next.

      Jay Mariotti? I might be more of a “pretentious asshole” (in your words) than he is, but at least I am correct. Mariotti is just wrong most of the time. And his voice annoys me. Hell, all of ESPN annoys me, especially Joe Morgan.

      It’s your loss, though. The Number of the Blog is much better than Metalsucks, which has become very dull and predictable as of late. I guess you just can’t stand reading things from people who have different positions than you. What a close-minded fool…

      Personally, I like the roster of contributors at NoTB so far. All of us definitely have our own set of tastes that make our writings unique. Here on MS, I can barely tell who is writing each article (although Anso DF and Suarez do stand out), because it seems like a hivemind in terms of what the writers like.

        I have no problem reading about people who have different opinions than I do, but what I cannot and will not do is read somebody who passes their opinions off as somehow proven fact. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and yes you are passionate about your music, which is fine, but you write like you aren’t stating opinions. I’ve never seen you give any credit to a band being talented if you don’t like them. It’s always, “I don’t like their music, so therefore they are terrible at what they do.” You seem educated on the music you listen to, but then you never give credit where it’s due to bands who are original, and helped shape the music everyone on this blog loves, ie Pantera. (And there is no way that you can tell me they aren’t one of the biggest influences in metal’s history)
        So Grover good luck, and I hope for your sake more “close-minded fools” like me don’t stop coming to your blog to not support someone who I do not enjoy reading.

            Yeah, I jumped the gun by saying I’m not gonna read the blog anymore because I really do enjoy it. I really just wanted to get my disdain for you’re “opinions” *rolls eyes* across, and I think I suceeded.
            I’ve never heard Exhorder, so I looked them up,(haven’t been able to listen to them yet since I don’t have speakers on my work comp) and read an interview with their lead singer. He says their music and Pantera’s are similar, but not the same. He also says that the reason Pantera made it big is because they worked harder, and credit is due for that.
            I don’t care that you don’t like the same music I do, but the way you respond to other people’s opinions is absurd. Disagreements about this can go on forever, because in opinion based arguement’s no one is right and no one is wrong. You come across like you don’t understand that though. You are the kind of person who I know I couldn’t have a conversation with without getting into a heated arguement, because you refuse to allow other people to have views on what they like without tearing it down, and not just simply stating why you don’t like it. And no, they suck isn’t a good reason.
            That said, I will be back Grover, in spite of you having Ziltoid writing for you.

But, after reading a lot of your posts I would much rather go to shows and hang out with, and discuss music with the apes instead of someone like you.
