INGLORIOUS FLAMES

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 at 3:30pm by

I was just reading at /Film about “The Lost Art of Inglourious Basterds,” a benefit for Haiti that will feature thirteen different artists’ own posters for – duhInglorious Basterds (which was one of the best, if not the best, movies of 2009, if you ask me). So I was looking at some samples of the various pieces of art, when I came across this one:

And I thought, “Gee, that looks kinda familiar.” Which is when it hit me… the poster looks just like…

Both pieces are by Alex Pardee. And while I understand that artists often have their own unique style, but… why use the same font?

Get more details on “The Lost Art of Inglourious Basterdshere.

It’s actually not the same font. The I’s are different. Regardless, pretty much everything this guy does uses writing that looks similar to that and has that same art style. I dig it.

  • bearbomb

It’s not really totally exactly the same font. That poster kicks ass though.

Using the same font probably lent a bit to you recognizing it. Since most artists don’t have instantly discernible styles, it helps them to distinguish themselves by having certain calling cards. Like a font. Ralph Steadman (artist sidekick of Hunter S. Thompson) employed that to great effect.

    • http://www.theatomicbombaudition.com Aleezy

Oh, and it’s not really a ‘font’ – it looks like he hand-painted both in the same style.

      • Zoker

Yeah right… the letters are all different even if the style is the same.

Awesome looking, and I love the whole symbolic “eagle for freedom” and “gremlin with horns for shithead Nazi” character portrayal

    • Biff_Tannen

Hmmm. You are aware that the Third Reich used eagles to a great extent during their European tour, right ?

      • thelump

yeah, a lot of the worlds most powerful nations have used the eagle: Roman Empire, Germany, and now, great country of U,S and A!

I think it might be hand drawn, pretty frikkin’ sweet

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ian-Wilmot/1177765489 Ian Wilmot

      he paints everything
      im fairly sure

  • Zoker

Thank you!! I saw that picture too and spent some time wondering where I already saw it…

  • Poopenshaft

nice art but overrated movie is overrated.

  • rudebynature

the same font? someone needs glasses.

  • Metalguy

I see no reason to post this. Bad art for bad album good art for good movie

  • Genial Gentile

Very cool poster. I liked the movie too, but as is the case with a lot of Tarantino’s films, his dialogue can be so tedious at times that it kills the momentum of the story. It’s like a cool doom riff that just goes on for WAY too long.

    • chris

The only reason why I like Tarantino films is b/c of the dialogue. Okay, that and the soundtracks.

      • jason

Some of the dialogue he has written is really entertaining, he just needs someone to tell him when enough is enough.

im pretty sure the poster is done by Alex Pardee
who also did the artwork for a sense of purpose
and all of the artwork for the used(except their newest album)
especially since on the website it says Alex was one of the artists
here’s his website for anyone interested

    its some fucking amazing stuff

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ian-Wilmot/1177765489 Ian Wilmot

      shit
i just noticed that you said that you said they were both by him

      whatever
      hes still fucking amazing

  • Bicro

I thought ASoP was an alright album.
    Inglorious Basterds was AMAZING

    • Biff_Tannen

How many films have you seen in your life? 3 ? Inglorious was yet another pompous ego stroking Taretino film. It was WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY to long, 99.2 % of the dialoge sucked. Tarentino is egomaniacal turd machine.

      • Bicro

        Calm down bro

I enjoyed it for what it was: an exercise in excess.

      • Discipleofthewatch

And how many albums have you listened to in your life – seven? Right, Biff Tannen? That’s the standard formula for one of your insults.

        • Biff Tannen

That’s right guy ! Thanks for paying attention.

          • Discipleofthewatch

Ok, next time I want to read something more creative. (And I’m not a guy, actually, but a woman.)

  • mike

Every graphic artist/cover designer has their own “look” like a Dan Seagrave, Par Olofsson, Gustavo Sazes etc..

  • Kuranes

Axl, please stop fucking around on movie websites while you’re at work.

  • thelump

Inglorious Basterds was extremely disappointing to me. I enjoyed the trailer about 12 times more than the entire movie. Nice poster though

  • http://www.vertebrae33.com/ Rodney

Great poster…way better than the in flames cover….

  • Tayne Hughes

    great artist, great album.

  • I killed a Dunky

love the art on the website. Good post

  • Who Gives A Damn

Art’s cool, but movie was overrated, I would of rather watched it on TBS or something

  • Horeshine

Exactly what I thought when I saw it… Glad I was right..

  • http://isthisrevolutionary.wordpress.com Enrique

Alex Pardee is one of my favorite artists. I would love to have that Inglorious Bastards Poster hanging on my wall.

  • Josef Fritzl

Obviously because he felt that the font he used for the In Flames logo would work well for that poster also.
The imagery is very different so i don’t see what you’re whining about.
