UPCOMING BULLSHIT ROUND-UP: NEWS ON FORTHCOMING RELEASES FROM IRON MAIDEN, DEFTONES, SOILWORK AND CAVALERA CONSPIRACY

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 at 1:40pm by

Phew! There’s been a lot of news about some great bands’ new releases these past few days. Here’s a quick round-up:

  • Deftones’ new album, Diamond Eyes, will be out May 18. I’m actually not that big a Deftones fan but I know Vince and a lot of other respectable-types are, so, y’know. There ya go.
  • Soilwork’s new album, The Panic Broadcast, will be out June 25 on Nuclear Blast. In case you live under a rock, the album will mark the return of guitarist Peter Wichers, which means it will almost certainly be better than 2007′s Wicher-less Sworn to a Great Divide.
  • Producer Kevin Shirley says the new Maiden album has been recorded. I didn’t even know Maiden were working on a new album. The last new Maiden album that really knocked my underpanties into the next room was 2000′s Brave New World - in fact, the group’s last outing, 2006′s A Matter of Life and Death, bored me tears – but I’ll never not be excited about a new Maiden record ’cause, well, they’re Maiden. Even if it’s just an excuse for them to tour… they put on one of the best live shows in the world, so I’ll take it.
  • Cavalera Conspiracy plan to hit the studio in April to record their sophmore album. I’m so much more excited for this than any Soulfly album (or Cavalera-less Sepultura album, natch), I can’t even tell you. Inflikted rocked, and it rocked hard.

Weigh in with your thoughts below!

I do not get the love given to Cavalera Conspiracy. It’s really uninspiring.

Though, if you want an excuse to really disregard my opinion, I really still like Derrick Green era Sepultura.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jason-John-Crispen/100000169530540 Jason John Crispen

yes! i totally agree. derrick green era sepultura is no joke. i certainly prefer it to soulfly.

      • Fasshole

        Dante XXI is sick

  • Alex_P

WOOOOOOOOOOH MAIDEN! I think this will actually be their last, which means it might also be the last time we get to see them play. I’ve never seen them live. I have to.

    • Wanga

I think you’ll get a few more albums from Maiden – there’s still too much for them to do! At least I hope!

    • Biff Tannen

This will be Maiden’s 15th studio album. Steve Harris has said many times that they will do “At Least” 15 albums. So, they may still make more, or this may be the last. If you’ve never seen them, you MUST ! Why didn’t you go to the Somewhere Back In Time tour in 08 ? That was probably the best tour they will ever do…..

BTW- Kevin Shirley recorded the album again ?? FUCK FUCK FUCK. That man SUUUUCKKKS. He gets the worst, flat, boring sound out of every band he works with. The guy is horrible. Goddamn it.

  • King Cheezit

Is Joe Duplantier still handling bass for Cavalera Conspiracy?

    • Ryan

That was gonna be my question, I don’t think he will be, but Gojira’s on hiatus right now so he could do it I guess…

      • Shinaain

Any time anyone mentions anything about Cavalera Conspiracy, the first thing I do is speculate on the likelihood of Duplantier’s participation. He could record (again) but not tour (again). I’m already down for the better parts of Sepultura getting together to lay something down, but his bass parts were pretty tasty on the last album. Definitely an added bonus.

        • Geekbeater

Well since I made the mistake asking Axl about Joe I will give you the rundown on what he’s doing. Joe moved to Brooklyn (which if you follow Gojira like myself prob knew he wanted to move to NYC) and Gojira are on Hiatus until 2011. CC recruited some guy ive never heard of to play bass when they toured before. He will be the one recording the new record.

          • Shinaain

2011? You just ruined my day. Thanks, Geekbeater.

            No, really. Thanks.

Gojira are playing at Bloodstock Festival this year so I dunno where you’re getting that from.

  • cougar party

Definately excited for Maiden’s new album. I actually liked AMOLAD although I am hoping for something a little more aggresive this time around. Bring back the gallop!!!

I know this will probably piss some diehard’s off, but i was never really that stoked on Sepultura and I find Soulfly to be boring for the most part. However, I love CC’s inflikted. Definately my favorite Max Cavelera project.

    • Biff Tannen

AMOLAD was a great Maiden album, the best since Bruce and Adrian came back! Brave New World was WAAAYYYY too repetitive . They just need to learn how to use the ‘edit’ button in the studio. The songs on there would be much more powerful and aggressive if they cut a couple mins off of the majority of them. “For the Greater Good of God” is the only song that needed the length they gave it. Also, too many acoustic/bass intros on just about EVERY song.

Maiden is my all time favorite band, and I love everything they have done for one reason or another.

      • Genial Gentile

“They just need to learn how to use the ‘edit’ button in the studio”

In the immortal words of Torben Ulrich… “delete it.”

      • cougar party

I agree with you about “For the Greater Good of God”. It’s pretty much the only song on the album over 6 minutes that would not have benefited from being a little shorter. That being said I like every track on the album except “Out of the Shadows” which i find to be boring; just my opinion.

I found Brave New World to be fine length wise with the exception of “Ghost of the Navigator” which really could have really great if they had cut off about 2 minutes.

I think this might really be the last Maiden album so I’m hoping they end on a really high note.

  • ITTOA666

i really can’t wait for the new soilwork.

    • Biff Tannen

Does the new Soilwork come with a vagina? or do they assume that all their fans already have one?

      • ITTOA666

Does the new limp bizkit album come with a picture of you inside wearing Fred Dursts’ hat?

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Hulsey/653830783 David Hulsey

Man that was a lame comeback. Now if you had said “Fred Dursts sperm?” it would have been much better.

  • Cisco

I thought Sworn to a Great Divide was great, even though it sounded like they got a lot of their inspiration from The Cure for that recording.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Andrew-Sterner/1335958279 Andrew Sterner

The only maiden album I don’t care for was Dance of Death. AMOLAD was good IMO, and no disputing the epicness of Brave new world

    • El Peras

I know this may sound boastful, but I find the problem in Dance of Death is the track-order arrangement….btw that “out of the silent planet” track from Brave New World is still awesome.

      • http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.channel&contributorid=19569360 Garske

        Dream
        of
        Fucking
        Mirrors.

        • cougar party

Check out the live version of Dream of Fucking Mirrors off Rock in Rio. It’s fucking epic.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Andrew-Sterner/1335958279 Andrew Sterner

Haha, I guess I’ve never noticed that. Good point, but you can always re-arrange the songs to your favorite order.

    • Biff Tannen

Dance of Death is the very definition of a grower. I think it is Much, Much better than Brave New World. BNW was WAAAYYYY to repetitive.
Dance of Death also has the best track Maiden have written in the last 20 years, namely “Paschendale”

Rainmaker, Dance of Death, Age of Innocence, New Frontier are all great tracks as well. The only ‘stinker’ was Montsegure (sp) IMO.

      • cougar party

what about No More Lies?! Fucking awesome song.

  • http://www.theoppositionmachine.wordpress.com the opposition machine

    excited for new maiden…

never bothered with soilwork before because back when in flames didnt suck they seemed like a poor man’s in flames to me….

CC is probably the best thing max has done since sepultura but thats like being the thinnest kid at fat camp…

could care less about the deftones

    /assholery

    • Zoker

When In Flames was a great band Soilwork was better… now that In Flames is no longer a great band Soilwork is way better… without counting Wichers back on the line-up.

Unfortunately Soilwork have to live with the comparison to In Flames, which was born before, but it is totally unfair in my opinion… the fact that they made a video where they fight doesn’t help…

      • HangON!

Yeah, Soilwork will always live in the shadow of In Flames. But… better than them?…. Early In flames up till Reroute are all masterpieces. Yes. In Flames Sucks now… Soilwork early stuff…… Meh…. Give or Take some songs.

  • Kuranes

They showed Steve Harris at the studio working on new stuff with Kevin Shirley in the Flight 666 documentary.

    Also looking forward to Soilwork.

    • Wanga

The stuff they were working on in the studio from flight 666 was a song from A Matter of Life and Death, but as that album was already released ,I think it was a live version of that particular track. There’s rumors that they’ll release a live DVD of that tour, so perhaps that’s what they were working on??? :)

      • Biff Tannen

yes, the song in that scene in flight 666 is “The Longest Day” from AMOLAD. They were mixing the live show that Maiden did a Download 2007. On Kevin’s website, it lists “Iron Maiden Live @ Download 2007 dvd” under his mixing credits ….so hopefully they will release it soon!

  • brian roach

Agree with above poster, AMOLAD rocked, I loved it, ‘Dance of Death’ was terrible! Very excited to hear new Maiden.

Deftones, eh, if it sounds like anything ‘White Pony’ and prior, cool. If it sounds like anything after that, no interest.

Soilwork has always bored me, and i saw them open for In Flames and they bored me live too, so no interest.

Cavelera Conspiracy, loved 1st album, basically what the follow-up to ‘Chaos AD’ should have been (I hated ‘Roots’!), so can’t wait to hear more from the Cavalera’s!

  • Benito

very excited for the deftones release, along with soilwork’s.

  • Sambo

    Definitely looking forward to Soilwork!

  • http://www.myspace.com/1033metal Jackson

A new CC is great but someday another Nailbomb record would be amazing, that was always my favorite Max project

  • Zoker

I’d give an eye to listen to The Panic Broadcast right now!

  • http://www.myspace.com/dragmymiserydown myke

new cc is gonna be great, new maiden i just hope they go in prog direction like the last album. and for my love of soilwork don’t hype it up and then it will be a can of shit

    • Biff Tannen

In what way was A Matter of Life and Death ‘prog’ ?? long songs ???

  • KC

There’s no way the new Soilwork will be as bad as the past couple In Flames were? Right?

Deftones album will probably get released at the end of the year or next summer. They can never stick to a release date. I still have a poster that I got at Warped Tour in ’08 that says New Deftones Album Winter 2008. I chuckle every time I see it.

    • thelump

try being a wintersun fan. UGH!

  • Joss

    how can u like soilwork..

  • Anders

Peter Wichers is technically a better songwriter and guitarist than alot of the Melodeath bands from sweden

    • Zoker

Peter Wichers is a living GOD.

  • shithead

Do we really need a new Maiden album ?

    • UpwindGravy

      Yes, shithead, we do.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Hulsey/653830783 David Hulsey

        You tell em!

  • mike

I’ve got no doubt the next Soilwork album will be very good. I think the only turkey the band has released was Figure Number Five, especially as it was the follow up to the superb NBC. And Dirk Verbeuren = WIN.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rik-Powell/286400508 Rik Powell

I love Figure Number Five. Stabbing The Drama is probably the worst album they’ve ever done (even though that was the album that got me into them in the first place).

And Soulfly are better than CC and wayyy better than current Sepultura. In fact the last few Soulfly albums are up there with the best Sepultura have ever done in my opinion.

  • Gaia

Well, looking forward to Deftones, really got into their stuff last year and new soilwork is a bit meh to me. Only to listen to NBC, the predators portrait and and figure number five, the triumvirate of good soilwork albums.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rik-Powell/286400508 Rik Powell

I agree that those are the best Soilwork albums, but all their stuff’s pretty good really. And I have a feeling the new one will be the best they’ve done for a while.

  • Facebook User

Dance of Death is my favorite Maiden album since Powerslave. Didn’t care much for Matter of Life and Death (except for Benjamin Breeg) but I’m stoked for a new Maiden outing. I doubt it will be their last, since in an interview posted on Blabbermouth one of the band members basically said that if you are a huge band like they are but aren’t recording then you are basically a joke. I am certain more Maiden is coming in the future.

    CC is also great news.

    • Jack

I feel confident that as long as Maiden is a band they will continue to make new music. The question, though, is how much time is left before the guys decide to ride off into the sunset. Pretty sure Nicko’s in his 60s, and wailing on the drums like he does ain’t easy at that age…

In any case, very stoked for the new release. BNW was the first Maiden album I ever heard, and I still love it. DOD and AMOLAD disappointed me when I first heard them, but both have grown on me since. AMOLAD in particular has a really grimy, dirty heaviness to it that I dig a lot, even if the songwriting isn’t totally up to par.

      • Wanga

Agreed, they will most likely continue to record – they seem to pride themselves on being current. There are plenty of bands who are heaps older and still going. It’s hard to imagine a world without Iron Maiden, isn’t it?

      • Biff Tannen

        Nicko is only 53

  • Josh Pollock

Inflikted was good but I thought Igor’s drumming was way less interesting then what he did with Sepultura. On Inflikted he sounded like a really good yet totally typical metal drummer, not like the unique really special drummer we love from Sepultua. Also being better then the last two Sepultura records is not a standard that when surpassed is anything all that special.

  • Fong Chung

lol I didn’t know Max Cavalera was still around. I guess I am out of the loop on shitty has beens.

  • Who

I don’t really care for a new Maiden album.
They’re one of my faves of all time but I’d rather listen over and over and over to the the first 7th ones than to this 13th studio album that probably won’t give me the thrills that they gave me in the 80′s.
I will probably buy it though…
The cool thing is that a new album probably means a new tour. But did Maiden ever stop touring ?

I’m much more interested in the next Avenged Sevenfold album with Mike Portnoy on the drums.

    • Biff Tannen

This will be Maidens 15 studio album, guy.
