IN WHICH EVERYONE GOT SICK

Vince brought the shits back with him from Egypt and in the past twenty-four hours I’ve been hit with a cold so bad that I’m probably gonna go to sleep right around the time I hit “publish” for this post. So before I pass out, here’s a run-down of what we did while Vince was playing Camel jockey:

Okay, NyQuil time. See ya Monday!!!

When did you guys start calling us Suckalos?

  • hexbasher

    • Who

      What’s a suckalo ?

      • Who

I’m serious, what does this word mean ?
I’m French and I do not understand.

  • Dave

It’s a play on the word Juggalo, essentially.

    • Diith

Ok, but I’ve seen that there was a movie called Suckalo (1976).
Is this any reference to it ?

      • Kuranes

        No.

        • Who

Looks like none of you losers know what the word suckalo really means…

    METAL IS DONE.

Pack up your things and lets go someplace else where something interesting is happening. Sooooo 2009 was allright but really it only had maybe one or two awesome records and a whole boatload of meh.

Still in 2009 I bought probably 20 metal records released in the 2007-2009 window. Not too bad for a dead scene right?

I stopped coming to this site at the end of the year. Not that I had a problem with the way Metalsucks was
run or the people there. I think it was just mostly a lack of anything worth listening to. I do like expiriemental
wierdness in music at times but wanted to vomit when Axl was pushing Sigh and IWABO. It is a statement on the overall scene when these bands are in any conversations at all, except, “What is the quickest
way to damage eardrums and induce a catatonic state of musical dischord and unhappiness?”

Axl does have better taste then this and it’s not his fault. It’s just that what I’ve come to realize in my one month hiatus from this site is that while there are TONS of bands releasing metal material…almost zero of them are any good at all. So when Axl has a website that talks about metal everyday, it’s not his fault that
this scene seems capable of producing absolutely nothing of any worth whatsoever.

So after spending this month with some great music I heard about via Pitchfork I came back here to see what’s good with metal. I was really hoping to buy a new record.

I am dissapointed. VERY dissapointed. I’ve scanned the recent backlog and the horizon and found….nothing I want to own and nothing to look forward to. Tool might drop a record in 2010. That I would buy for sure. If Gojira made another one, hell I’d get that too. I don’t expect anything new from Revocation anytime soon either….

    Lame….sigh…

I’m open for sugestions here but let’s face it. Based on what I’ve seen today there is really no reason to return to this site for another six months at least…if I’m looking for good music that is.

On the other hand if I want to hear about what bands are awful, watch their perenial blogger Dallas’ life fall apart with each subsequent rant/post, figure out unreadable logos or cannabalize the “Best of 2007″ list in hopes of finding something I missed then this place is perfect.

This is not the fault of Vince, Axl or Metalsucks. It is metal itself sucking. The moniker for the website has
never been so true as it is now. Peace.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

    • metalguy

Who are you again? oh right. another blog reader who i wouldnt care if they died tomorrow and whos opinion doesnt matter to me

    • DemonicLemming

Still plenty of good metal coming out…not our fault your taste in good music sucks and you deem it the fault of the metal community that no one can make anything you like.

Just a quick rundown of 2009, via wiki – Kreator, Napalm Death, Sirenia, Ephel Duath, Cannibal Corpse, Adagio, Lamb of God, Arch Enemy, Lunatica, Nightwish, Static-X, Delain, Mastodon, Eluveitie, Chimaira, Wolfchant, Edenbridge, The Gathering, Nachtmystium, Epica, Stratovarius, Devin Townsend, Therion, Pathosray, Tyr, Pelican, Dream Theater, Korpiklanni, Amberian Dawn, Obituary, Born of Osiris, Devildriver, Ahab, Behemoth, Vader, Leaves’ Eyes, Krypteria, Black Dahlia Murder, Kittie, Megadeth, Ministry, Shadows Fall, Sonata Arctica, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Children of Bodom, Despised Icon, Dalriada, Scar Symmetry, Baroness, Gorgoroth, Russian Circles, Dark Tranquility, Between the Buried and Me, Arkona, Within Temptation, Slayer, Krallice, Swallow the Sun, and Mudvayne.

Even if fully half the bands I listed, which are less than half those on the wikipedia page, and which doesn’t include smaller/underground music not large enough to hit wikipedia, if you can’t find more than a handful of good albums there, maybe you should simply admit to yourself that you just don’t like metal, not that there weren’t any good albums released.

      • DidgeryDo

No I definitely like metal. I have a LOT of music to delete on my mp3 player if that’s not true.
I just don’t see anything very exciting happening soon in terms
of someone making intersting and good music in the near future. This is just my opinion
and I don’t really get why all the responses have been so defensive.

Why are the Aenema’s, Way of All Flesh’s, and Crack the Skye’s so few and far in
between? I don’t feel like sifting through a massive pile of crap with my best prospect
finding something that is better then the rest but still mediocre.

DLemming is right in pointing out the massive ammounts of music the Metal scene
generated last year. This is my frustration. I want to think that the reason the quality is
so intermittent is because it is a small dying scene. This is not true, and like DLemming showed
, there are a multitude of active bands making music.

I guess the real tough thing is that given the agressive nature of the music it’s hard to
attract great minds to the scene. For every Maynard Keenan, Devin Townsend or
Joe Duplantier you have 5,000 Dallas Coyles it seems.

So what’s going on with the defensiveness? Do you not want it to get better? Are you
so used to the mediocrity that you get mad when people suggset it ought to be better?
Do you really think IWABO is good music? I don’t get it but it’s ok. I never did mean to
        offend you guys.

There are a huge number of shitty bands in metal….when all the emo kids decided it would be cool to turn into hipsters and listen to shitty deathcore and mathcore (seriously, what the fuck, mathcore?) music, a whole plethora of untalented bands started making music to cater to their clogged ears and febrile minds. However, there are a whole hell of a lot of good bands out there making great music – maybe not last-year recently, but there’s a way to look at that. A good album never gets old, and when you have enough good music to listen to, it really doesn’t matter when an album was made – 1985, 1995, 2005, or 2010. If you go back and do a year-by-year comparison of all those great albums you’re talking about, you’ll likely see there were no more uberalles albums released per year in 2000 or 2005 than there are today – there’s simply a much higher ratio of shitty albums to good ones.

I can’t stand most bands that get huge reviews around here, but I don’t put just one band I like on repeat for days – I’ll switch up, from Amon Amarth to Xandria to Within Temptation to Chimaira to Russian Circles to The Gathering to Emilie Autumn to Angelspit. For me, if a band has at least 2-3 good albums (and with a lot of bands I like, they might have only ever released one or two albums…that just means I have to space them out more in my playlist than a band with significantly more albums), that’s all it takes, because by switching up so much, nothing ever gets stale, and I never bemoan the fact that a band doesn’t have enough albums (ok, fine, in the case of some new bands like The Birthday Massacre or Stolen Babies, I do, because they’re good bands and I want more music from them, but it’s simply because they’re young bands that they don’t have many albums out.

Yeah, it does take a lot more listening now, with significantly more bands releasing music, to tell what’s good and what’s not. That has benefits, though – you may find a new band you wouldn’t have listened to otherwise, or you might find a band you don’t particularly like, but find other bands in that same genre you do like. There’s still a lot of good, new music out there, you just have to dig through more shit to find it.

  • DidgeryDo

Also it doe not help that visiting this website now makes me a “suckalo.”

  • Discipleofthewatch

    What about “Metal Suckers?”

Personally, I can always find something new and interesting and good to listen to.

    • DidgeryDo

New, Interesting, good…..When I look these days it seems like it’s just one of those. IWABO is interesting
and even new in a way but not at all good lol. Slayer’s World Painted Blood was good but not new
or interesting. Attack Attack is new but not interesting or good.

I’m looking for the complete package here. There are so many many bands that are content to fill
their own tiny niche but at this point I’m not buying anything new unless it is the complete package.
      Till then peace.

    Genius…pure genius…

I agree with the fact that there’s nothing better than a complete package…a rare find, because interesting, technical, or appealing…

That’s why I am constantly updating my music collection.

However, it’s not just metal that sucks nowadays,,,actually, if any metal sucks currently, it’s a by-product of … how can I put it succinctly…Decline Of Western Civiliation,,,and some…

    Yes..peace.
