TWILIGHT OF THE BLUEGRASS GOD

Monday, February 22nd, 2010 at 2:32pm by

Tongue-in-cheek covers are kind of lame which is why I find Slaughter of the Bluegrass so entertaining; these guys aren’t being ironic at all. These Swedes love their metal but they also love their bluegrass, having already done bluegrass cover versions of At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity songs. The Deciblog alerted us to the latest Slaughter of the Bluegrass cover of Amon Amarth’s “Twilight of the Thunder God.” While bluegrass and viking metal might seem to be at odds, in a way it makes perfect sense: Swedish “redneck” music done in the style of another country’s redneck music. A perfect fit.

Listen to the track above and download it here if you feel so inclined.

Definitely different. But I liked it. I like when they all say “Thor.” That part was pretty sweet. Prettay catchy.

Sounds irish, would be a good st paddys day anthem. I would drink many a guiness to this!

Yeah, very Irish. You always hear about Thor battling Jörmungandr in the Irish Pubs. haha, just joking around but this being an Irish holiday anthem is a bit far fetched.

There is a band called IRON HORSE who do absolutely amazing bluegrass versions of a variety of bands, they have a Metallica bluegrass cd, an Ozzy/Sabbath one, a Zeppelin one, etc. Not sure if they are on ITunes or anything, but absolutely worth seeking out. Truly incredible!

there’s a band called Hayseed Dixie who do bluegrass covers of various “metal”/hard rock songs including ace of spades…it’s surprising how well it translates to bluegrass…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYJUywl7CFw

There’s also a band called Iron Horse who has done a couple Metallica cover albums as well as their own original stuff. Sadly, I enjoy their covers more than the original Metallica versions most of the time.

  • Slammm

Great stuff! Can’t wait til they come out with more!

  • Oden

Alright, well that certainly was different. If that’s what they enjoy playing then i guess it’s all good, but IMHO it sounds like shit. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but DAMN…

  • Jonathan

This is like… the 80′s summer movie version/mix of the song… I love it. XD

  • inhumanrampager

Somehow it reminds me of Weird Al.

    • VikingMetalPersonOfEnjoymentGuy

      Yeah I can hear that.

  • Facebook User
