THE FINNISH METAL TOUR, PRESENTED BY METALSUCKS

finnish metal tourFinland is the new Sweden. Or the new black. Or something.

The Finnish Metal Tour, featuring Finntroll, Moonsorrow, Swallow the Sun and Survivors Zero was announced this past December, at which point our nipples instantly became hard. But now we’ve been asked on as an official sponsor and hey, lookee at that, our logo’s at the top of this here tour poster all fancy-lookin’ and shit!

We’ve yet to see Finntroll live but MS Uber-Suckalo groverXIII loooooooves this band and the dude generally has good taste, so we’ll have to trust him. Moonsorrow completely annihilated New York when they came through as part of the second Paganfest tour last year, and even though they weren’t the headliners they were easily the stand-out band on that bill. Swallow the Sun are Swallow the motherfucking Sun, always epic, always awesome. And we haven’t heard of Survivors Zero yet, but I’m listening to their MySpace page now and I really like what I’m hearing. This is definitely one of the most exciting tour lineups of Spring 2010.

Stream the new Finntroll track at Metal Insider then check out the full list of tour dates after the jump.

  • Natsquatch

Pretty neat. How ’bout a Danish metal tour with Artillery, The Arcane Order, and Crocell? I know that you guys totally have that much power, so make it happen, NOW.

  • Genial Gentile

I’ve heard some really glowing reviews of Swallow the Sun. Do they sound anything like the headliners? Cuz I don’t think I’d dig them if they are. (No offense Grover)

    • orbital

Swallow the Sun is the best band on this bill if you ask me. Fucking love them. I’ll be going just to see them and grab a shirt and hoodie.

    • thelump

      More like melo-doom than melodeath

If you want good tracks from their new album try “These Woods Breathe Evil, Falling World, and New Moon”
They also have some great lyrics. and Plague of butterflies has a nice story to it, although the song is 35 minutes long

      • Aaron

        godly.. falling world is amazing.

  • MSalonen

No, Swallow the Sun sound pretty different from the rest. At least in my opinion.

  • Andy Synn

Swallow The Sun really deserve to be headlining this tour.

Not that i’m knocking Finntroll or Moonsorrow (although I really, really can’t stand the former), it’s just that StS are far better. Unfortunately the best bands are not always the most popular. My band was lucky enough to open for StS/Insomnium/Omnium Gatherum last year and they were extremely nice people, very focussed on their art.

  • Coonsan

Thanks for this. Thank you so much.

  • Honeynutzz

Can I ask a serious question?

When you guys sponsor a tour what is it exactly that you are expected to do? Just cover it on the site?

    • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

That’s a great question, actually… I wouldn’t mind having TNOTB sponsor tours in the eventual future, if things were to go well.

    • shep

Yeah, and do you chose the tours you sponsor or do they just have to ask you to sponsor them? Cos you’ve sponsored some pretty sucky tours at times.

  • Gaia

I suspect Grover is beating off furiously at work.

    • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

      Not today. Tomorrow, maybe.

  • brandonmetal

This is going to be an amazing show! SZ sound like worthy openers.
These days, it’s so rare that a metal bill doesn’t have some horrific band I dread having to experience.
It’s been too long since I’ve seen StS since they started early and I missed them on the Soilwork tour last year. I don’t mind them going on 2nd- that’ll force them to stick to the good stuff :)
Moonsorrow was impressive last year, creating pretty accurate performances of their recordings. Hope they mix up the set this year with something from the newer releases.

  • Santi

I have come to the conclusion that Scandinavian bands despise Florida….

    • ghost

dude, it seems like all bands despise Florida. even bands FROM florida! it sucks

  • Kye

Now THIS is more like it.

And it’s coming nowhere near me. Haha, figures.

  • Discipleofthewatch

I listened to a bunch of Finntroll songs on MySpace just because Grover recommended them to me. Now I am still a bit up in the air about them, although I thought some of the songs were fun. So how’s about you fly out here and attend the show in Hollywood at the House of Blues with me, Grover? Maybe I’d be a fan if I saw them live, as was the case with Ensiferum for me. I’ll buy the tickets.

    • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

That would be nice… not sure how Mrs. XIII might feel about that, though, not to mention I’d need time off of work.

      • Discipleofthewatch

I’m half-joking, because I know you live far the hell over there in the snowy regions of the country. But if you ever made it out this way for a vacation or a concert, I could show you the sights and all the best record stores. The beaches, the beautiful canyons here, the tourist attractions. Southern California is great. Anyone I know on MetalSucks, here, if you come out this way, let me know.

True also that your wife might not appreciate it. I always find myself the only woman among a group of guys when I go to shows! They’re all my bros, though. I’d love to have some more girlfriends to go to concets with, but it’s usually just me and the guys.

        • Discipleofthewatch

*and I would like to add, no assholes, perverts, rapists, elitist douchebags, or Biff Tannen need to take me up on any SoCal local metal tour offer.

        • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

It would be nice to make it to southern California eventually… the farthest south I’ve gotten has been Napa a couple of times.

Sadly, I’m pretty much booked up on vacations for this year, with Florida in a few weeks and probably Vegas in September again (that was a fucking blast last year, and will be again.)

  • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

Why yes, I do love Finntroll. The new album is fucking great. And Moonsorrow is pretty damn good as well.

  • Hobie

    Man no south florida dates!?
I’ve wanted to see Finntroll live for a while now!

  • Ziltoid

Moonsorrow is the only good band on the bill, but this is a surprisingly less-sucky-than-usual tour for Metalsucks to sponsor.

    • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

Pretend that I am stabbing you through the skull with a putty knife right now.

  • http://salsicha.wordpress.com Gabriel [Pylsa]

Naah, Finland will never be as nice as Sweden regarding metal bands. I mean, take Nightshit and Suckstratovarius as example… Finnish scene has nice bands, as Turmion Katilot, but it can’t be compared to a neighbour that has Meshuggah, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, Katatonia and Pain. :D

  • Viking_xxx

Too bad the best Finnish bands are not on this tour…. Insomnium anyone? Omnium Gatherum? Noumena? Kalmah?

    • Discipleofthewatch

Kalmah and Dark Tranquillity! I’d go in a second.

  • WowWee!

Why is there no Las Vegas dates? Fuckers!
