EMIL WERSTLER CONTINUES TO BE A BIG SHOW-OFF

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 at 2:00pm by

I know that there are lots of reasons why the Levi/Werstler project may never get to do a live show (or, better yet, a tour, even): there’s the usual considerations about the costs (financial or otherwise) of being on the road, and the Daath boys are hitting the studio in the not-too-distant future to record their new album, plus you’d have to coordinate their schedules with that of Cynic’s Sean Reinert, who plays drums on the album – and that would probably be a major pain in the tuchus. Still, I hope against hope that they somehow end up on Prog Nation, or something awesome like that. It would be kind of a shame if videos like this one were the only chance fans ever have to see these dudes play some music from Avalanche of Worms:

I have no idea what that song is called, but I’m ready to hear the rest of it now.

We are going to continue to remind you all that Avalanche of Worms comes out 4/20 on Magna Carta pretty much until it’s out. You can pre-order it here.

Werstler and Levi did guest solos on the new From Exile album, Monolith. Levi produced it, too. VERY worth checking out!

This is completely true. From Exile = awesome.

  • TVPenis

I was interested when I read that Sean was playing drums but this is just so wanky and tasteless. How many annoyingly hyperactive riffs can you stuff into a “song”?

    • OBEY1019

Bingo I listened to the song on their myspace or whatever and could not even get through the whole thing

  • Mewis

TVPenis… You are so incredibly wrong. Listen to the album when it comes and tell me you still feel the same.

  • Geetarz

    What an asshole!

  • Benito

No doubt he’s a great guitarist, but COME ONNNN! that riff is like….. how they say, “nots thats difficults?”

    • builtforsin

      Was thinking the same thing.

Everything has to be difficult to be good? I didn’t know that(See Black Sabbath(the album) for why you’re wrong).

So what are we doing here Benito, athletics? We’re judging something’s worth on how difficult it is to play?
It’s that uneasy grey area that instrumental shred albums operate in – like warriors battling between the pillars of musicality and people who feel the need to stamp a difficulty rating at the end of each bar.

Still, warriors have gained victory in the field before – first Malmsteen album is a case in point.

I wish these guys the best and look forward to the album.

I’m rather excited for this album. I loves me some shredding.

  • Master Chah

Part of me is hoping that there will be some extreme jazzy improv on this album.

  • Dan

I’m not into shreddy instrumental stuff at all. Obviously there’s exceptions such as “Miles of Machines” by Jeff Loomis and “Soothsayer” by Buckethead, but for the most part it just gets on my tits. This, however, looks set to be an exception.

Though this video clip makes it sound REALLY boring, I loved the whole song they put up last week or whenever.

  • NickB

Not to be a dick but isn’t that riff from the song they already posted? If that’s what you’re talking about when you’re saying you have no idea what song it is. You’ve already heard it!

  • skip crackers

pretty creative way to use a paul gilbert picking exercise to make a riff….emil’s picking is way clean!

  • Clayer

dude is a guitar chef, such tasty riffs
