‘SHITSTAIN’ ALUMNI VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE SIGN TO CENTURY MEDIA. VINCE CRIES, THEN REJOICES.

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 at 3:00pm by

Shitstain on the Ass of the Universe alumni Vampires Everywhere have signed with Century Media, a press release tells us. I first bestowed the vaulted “Shitstain” status upon Vampires Everywhere just one month ago and proclaimed, “So help me God if this band ends up with a record deal.” Then when I found out Century was making my worst fears come true I got simultaneously really fucking angry and really upset. Why should a band like this that’s obviously just chasing trends and possesses zero originality get signed to a major metal record label when hundreds of extremely talented and deserving bands get passed over on a daily basis? It’s fucked up, to be sure.

But then a funny thing happened; I realized that this signing is actually really good for metal in general.

Signing a band like Vampires Everywhere is obviously a cash-in on the record label’s part, and anyone who works at Century Media will surely tell you as much off the record; Century Media knows full well that a band like this is going to appeal to young kids who will unabashedly spend their parents’ money buying shirts, hoodies, posters, belt buckles, vampire fangs and whatever the fuck else Century decides to issue. It’s a cash cow for now, and 3 years down the road when the cycle for this kind of music has run its course and Vampires Everywhere won’t even be able to draw 15 fat chicks to their VFW hall show in buttfuck Ohio, Century will still have made off well on their investment.

Call it “Nickelback Syndrome.” This band is going to [hopefully] make Century assloads of money that they’ll then be able to turn around and invest in better, more deserving bands that don’t sell many records and don’t have an army of swoopy-haircut-wearing kids who don’t know any better to spend tons of money on merch in order to fit in. For every Vampires Everywhere there’s an Orphaned Land, an Intronaut, a Daath, a Dark Fortress and a Nachtmystium, bands that are likely losing the label money right now or, at best, making them a small amount.

So fuck it. I say “Bravo!” to Century Media for signing this cocksucking trend-following no-talent asswipe butt dumpling-eating motherfucking shitstain on the ass of the universe. If this project allows Century to keep releasing records by all of the above bands, I’m all for it.

  • Dysenteric

Please tell me you’re being sarcastic. How does this benefit metal? This move just gives us one more band to try to avoid like the fucking plague. CM benefit from this due to all the money that will come in, which will encourage them to sign more cash cow bands in the future; VE! get more undeserved exposure, and VE!’s fans can annoy me with their love for auto-tuned Twilight-themed guff that is called music.

    • Tj

      agreed

    • Chris D.

      Read the fucking article.

      • Dysenteric

Uh… I did read the fucking article.

        • Shanx!

I think you might have missed the point then…

        • Isaac

No, you DEFINITELY missed the point.
          Allow me to reiterate:
SHITTY BANDS=$$$ FOR THE LABEL=GOOD BANDS GETTING FUNDED

          • Gaia

Yeah but Century Media may realise that these cash cows make money and could see that it makes business sense to invest in to further cash cows, than to pump money into bands that may not make as much money. Possibly.

          • Dysenteric

But that also equals shitty bands getting more plaudits and whatnot. Yes, it’s beneficial for decent bands, I agree, but I don’t feel that shitty Hot Topic bands need to be signed to accomplish the goal of getting enough money to support all the artists on the label. It’s definitely something I wouldn’t do.

          • http://www.metalsucks.net Vince Neilstein

I believe that the folks at Century Media generally know what good metal is and don’t want to work at a label that just has bands like Vampires Everywhere. In fact, I know this for a fact. They will continue to sign good bands.

          • Cryzthormagnusian

Shitty bands make money, label signs more shitty bands to make more money which then lets them sign more shitty bands to make more money.

Why on earth would you think a label would sign shitty bands that make money just to turn around and sink it into a band that isn’t making them money?

That’s a sure fire way to run a business into the ground.

  • chris

I could have sworn I heard this in an Underoath album 6 years ago. It wasn’t good then, and it’s definitely not good now!

The site has had numerous articles about the use of triggers for drums. I think it is about time you guys do something on the use of auto-tune. I can’t understand why all these younger/newer bands love using it.

    • Brian \m/(-_-)\m/

“I think it is about time you guys do something on the use of auto-tune. I can’t understand why all these younger/newer bands love using it.”

uhhhh…its pretty easy really. thanks to autotune, you dont need to have any actual vocal talent to be a vocalist. shitty young bands with no musical talent or conviction wanna make bank. hence, they use autotune, so their lack of talent is unimportant, and they can sell their crappy music to tweens who will buy it. simple enough?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Richard-Michael-Christopher-Hall/1131120176 Richard Michael Christopher Hall

FUCK COUNT AUTO-TURD NO MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY HE MAKES FOR CENTURY.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Showalter/100000592087843 Anthony Showalter

I hope metalsucks realizes that by talking about all these shitty bands on this site, they’re just promoting them more.

  • ColinJ

Problem is, the label will put these cock-chuggers out on tour with GOOD bands.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Brandon-Fountain/1391790047 Brandon Fountain

… and that will be goddamn depressing.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-P-Stine/1314021455 Anthony P Stine

No, that will be entertaining as hell to see shit get thrown at them when they are on tour with bands who don’t suck.

        • http://www.myspace.com/ozerkatz metalANDsnakes

ZING. but it is filling a spot on the tour a potentially good bad could fill.

          • Suraj

I remember that Cattle Decapitation + Fall Out Boy tour… good times.

  • Lady Siara

    In a word: yikes.

  • Obzen

I hope you’re right. If this band gets big and ends up fucking up Century Media in some way, I’ll be pissed. I still can’t believe that they signed them though. I don’t think I’ll be able to see them in a show if they end up touring with some good band..

  • Kill All

    Worst. Band. Ever.

  • metalguy

this band was recommended to me last night on youtube after i watched a machine head video. im still confused

    • Dysenteric

I always associate those woeful and just plain wrong recommendations with Spotify. I listen to a lot of grindcore on Spotify, and one day, they recommended Killswitch Engage. Huh?

  • I’m not racst, but I hate Oceano

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. I’m rocking this shit. It combines everything i love; metal, twilight and kanye west.

    • dave

      you forgot the sexy haircuts

  • Alex_P

You forgot the exclamation mark at the end of their name. Yeah, they’re that trendy.

    From their Myspace:
“The group will issue a 2-song EP, Lost In The Shadows, on April 13th and will be exclusively available at all 685 Hot Topic locations nationwide.”
Too easy. I’m not touching this.

  • Justin Foley

    Vince, you’re crazy.

You’re saying that, because the label has figured out a way to generate money, they will be able to spend money on things that aren’t self-sufficient. If labels are merely economic enterprises then I guess that what you’re saying makes some twisted sense. Of course, in that case, they should stop selling music altogether and start selling Iphone covers or maybe Ipad covers because that is where the money is really at.

Let’s pretend, however, that labels are not just things that try to make money, but instead must make enough money to be able to do something more important: document and present important music for current and future audiences. In that case, CM’s signing a band that they clearly do not think of as ‘important’ actually runs counter to the larger goal. Sure, they may be able to sell more records by some other band that wouldn’t get enough people’s attention, but that only begs the question of why a label needs to subsidize those releases in the first place. If they decide that it’s worth it, why not use the more popular titles that they do stand behind rather than cashing in on something ugly and faddish that they don’t believe in. They’re cannibalizing people’s trust in what makes the label worthwhile – see AmRep’s Supernova or Earache’s Oceano.

It’s not just an argument of commerce, because economics should only be a hurdle that a label should clear, not the driving goal of the whole operation. When people object to this signing as crass and distasteful, they have a valid point. It is crass. A good, self-sufficient record label should be able to meet its primary goal of presenting music without having to lose money, milk fads just to make a buck or hide Ne-Yo CDs to sell more Hawthorne Heights crap.

Maybe that last point doesn’t have anything to do with this, but fuck Victory Records anyway.

    = Justin

    • Dysenteric

The second and last paragraphs perfectly explain what I was trying (probably not very well, hahaha…) to convey in my views above. Only Justin put it better than I did. Thanks man.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steven-J-Henningsgard/1024517365 Steven J. Henningsgard

Larger record labels are just banks dude, and bands are small businesses. That’s it. Think about it that way, and it all starts to make sense.

*readies a bottle of piss for their upcoming festival appearance*

    • STFU

      Are you white trash?

  • ohgrpup

I’m going to say something super crazy and odd… the songs are kind of catchy and fun. I love me some behemoth in the morning, but also like Lady Gaga… Best of both words? I like it

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rufino-Castaneda/100000171789334 Rufino Castaneda

i cant believe they used auto tone vocals…what a fucktard…i wonder what producer signed off on this crap sound

  • poprocks

Mike Milford from Artery Management is calling the band right now……

  • http://www.myspace.com/intronaut sachanaut

    the singer has great teeth.

  • SonOF

Did this band REALLY just combine everything that is trendy at the moment (autotuned vocals, exclamation point in their name, vampire theme, guys with chick’s haircuts), throw it together and get signed by CENTURY F’N MEDIA? Holy shit, I gotta get a band together..

  • ColinJ

As Devin Townsend wrote in the song ‘Girls Next Door’ from his magnificent ‘Punky Bruster’ record:

“What it takes to rock is to suck some corporate cock

So hey everybody, we’ll be the girls next door.”

And that song was directly aimed at the A&R bozos Century Media and Roadrunner Records.

    • Xenogia

      Nicely put :)

    • Bicro

      Bloody ace album, btw.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matthew-Mitchell/727402512 Matthew Mitchell

I’ll just gather up my UNO cards for when this band rolls through.

  • fuckface

Century media has no credibility left

  • You Don’t Know Me

At least it wasn’t Mary Magdalan that got signed.

    • Xenogia

She is truly much more disgusting than Vampires Everywhere!

  • evilfatguy

I’m sure Century doesn’t have a single act that loses them money. They make sure of that.
All this does is take an old (in the context of metal), well-respected record distributor/label and carve a bit of respect away in the eyes of their loyal customers. Personally, I’m not surprised; like it or not, this garbage is where metal is headed for at least the next few years, so you need to make peace with it or ignore it. Century recognizes that this is what people buy, and that it will make them money. There is no “this is good for metal,” as Century was doing just fine before they signed this Shitstain.
Personally, I will choose to ignore it like I have been doing with shitty music for the past 20 or so years.

    • Aaron R A

How exactly do you know that Century Media “was doing just fine before they signed this shitstain”? Because I’m pretty positive that you don’t know. And if CM is hurting, kudos to them for taking on a cash cow in order to keep the doors open for the less financially successful bands.

      • evilfatguy

I know, because they’ve been running a successful, growing business for the past twenty-odd years. It’s called common sense and a knowledge of how the music industry works.

  • All Out War

Am I the only one who’s gonna comment about that chick being from The Real World Las Vegas? Errr…maybe there’s a reason no one else has mentioned it. Nevermind.

  • Headnuts

this band obviously got signed because they give the best B to the Lowjobs

  • Bliff Curton

I see your point about the label making a quick buck to fund more legit metal bands. Really though, it’s best to not cover them, not sign them, just ignore stupid crap like this and it will go away! It’s really unbelievable that it’s 2010 and there are still bands like this.

  • brandonmetal

holy crap what the hell is going on in that video…

  • Mooch

When did Jay-Z start producing metal? This is just stupid.

  • Jizzmaster3000

The fact that they’ve been signed is incredibly disheartening.

  • r

… maybe they could release it in a new imprint (or I’ll start to doubt the quality of a Century Media branded CD)

  • http://www.myspace.com/sonofaurelius AureliusJosh

wow century passed on aurelius for this shit… jesus fucking christ….

  • kmfcm

But I thought they already had several mealticket bands

  • kylo marie colors

DUDE ARE YOU FOR FUCKING REALS?????
IM A FUCKING O.G. BUT I STILL LOVE METAL.
THE FACT THAT YOU MADE THIS SITE MAKES ME SCOFF AND I DONT DO THAT VERY OFTEN.

  • nltfm

    are you kidding me?????
this band totally sucks the singer cant sing, his teeth look fake, and the vampire trend will be over within a year!
they have never even played a show so i truly believe that CM are idiots for signing a band thats never even played a live show!
someone did some sexual favors for CM to sign them!

    • STFU

I think your comment makes you look like a big fucking idiot. I bet your teeth are jacked up. Playing more live shows doesn’t make you more talented fucktard.

  • Jess

You should really start doing your homework. CM has been looking to expand… and that means adding new bands with different sounds to their lineup. Your review reeks of asshole, which you are indeed. You disgust me. They have longevity… Vampire obsessions have been around for centuries you idiot. I love this band. They are talented and gifted. They work hard. You critique things you don’t even research. Idiot.

  • Guardian

Nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.

  • Mrk

Saw them with X-Japan last night and these guys sucked, I would have rather sat around for 30mins instead of listening to that mediocre (at best) band. The only highlight of their performance was when someone in the crowd help up a sign “I WISH THE VAMPIRE WAS NOWHERE” and wtf is up with their style? Didn’t that emo glam shit die out years ago? In conclusion I hope the guy who signed them gets stringed by his balls and hung from a tree. VAMPIRE NOWHERE SUCKS!

  • VAMPIRELOVER

Fuck you guys, this band is cool.

    • JimC

      Fuck you, no it isn’t.

  • Merrynightmare

thats just wrong no band should have stuff threw at them if you dont like them ignore them

  • Merrynightmare

if century media is only using vampires everywhere to get money then how can you say they are such a great label dosnt it bother you that cm is just a sell out just as much as you think vampires everywhere is and if you hate them so much why are you talking about them like they say even bad publicity is publicity.  by the way i really like their music
