EXCLUSIVE METALSUCKS PREMIER: DAUGHTERS – “THE THEATRE GOER”

Thursday, March 4th, 2010 at 1:00pm by Vince Neilstein

daughters - s/t

Dilapidated warehouse, makeshift stage, loud-as-fuck sound system, cheap booze and weed smoke everywhere, hundreds of sweaty, crazy motherfuckers going insane as the band-members gyrate about on stage and come into the audience, because really there’s barely any separation between stage and floor. That’s what I want it to be like the first time I see post-punk / metal explosion outfit Daughters live (yes, I know they’ve been around for years). Based on this here new track “The Theatre Goer” I can tell that these dudes put on really fucking intense shows, and with the sudden absence of These Arms are Snakes in all of our lives I really need a band to fill that void.

Daughters comes out on March 9th via Hydra Head. Pre-order it here.

    • stu1 says:

Who Daughters? Not that I’ve heard.

      • robocop420 says:

yeah I thought I read an article somewhere saying how disappointed the remaining members were with the album, how it went in a direction they didn’t like and all this stuff. I can see why…

  • Carter says:

    This is fucking awesome

  • hyperkulturemia says:

What the hell happened here? They went from spazzy mathcore to meandering noise, but then somehow ended up here. Yeesh.

  • Matt says:

this is so sick, but not as crazy as old stuff.

And hate to break it to you metalsucks, but theyre broken up after they recorded

  • Balls says:

Yep they lost 2 members and ain’t playing shows anymore.

  • luisypoo says:

such an underrated band… hell songs was one of the best albums to come out this past decade.
looking forward to this album, too bad it doesnt seem as chaotic, but oh well… im sure its still great

    • josh says:

I was disappointed in Hell Songs after the most excellent Canada Songs, no matter how many times I’ve tried to dig it i just cant.

  • KC says:

Daughters are seriously one of the best hardcore bands currently around. Yeah I consider them hardcore because they have the mentality of an old school hardcore band. They seriously could give a fuck if people actually like them or not. They play what they want and don’t try to conform to anything, if only the rest of the scene would take a tip from them.

  • nate says:

why are some of you mad that it dosent sound like the previous recordings? would you be stoked if they made the same record over and over, or make something new and break new ground?

music is music, and you have every right to dislike it, but dont be so ignorant. listen to emmure if you want to hear the same shit over and over again.

  • Lybrium says:

This is decent, Thank you Vince!

  • Fan of True Heaviness says:

Haha, the author wants to see the “the band-members gyrate about on stage and come into the audience”.

    I bet he does!!

  • LZX says:

They didn’t break up, they commented on the fact that Lex (they’re singer) and drummer are going to keep going because they founded it and want to keep doing what they love, they just aren’t touring until they find new members.

  • Cj says:

seen them 3 times blew me away everytime you need to see them but expect to see guy dick lol

  • Matt says:

dude, ok, i have loved daughters for a long time, i embraced the singers choice and change of new vocals, but this is getting bad, but from what i hear ot was said that he didnt think anyone would like the new album. the two songs i have heard are nothing special, and then also for someone to compare them with or lump them in the same category as these arms are snakes means the daughters sound like shit, they’re straying away from what was this awesome band that didnt fucking care about anything but just playing awesome music that had a very very distinct sound to something less daughters, less unique.

if you heard those high guitars you knew it was daughters and now this, “these arms are snakes blah blah blah” fuck that. it’s so shitty the greats are becoming shitty.

and also to the people who will say “you cant expect them to release the same album over and over” if it wasnt for that initial first album i heard and that so many other people heard (“canada songs”) then they wouldnt be here to release a shitty third album, dont do the same exact thing, extend off of it, but dont stray away completely. thats what pop bands do, change with the times, do whats popular. it’s a fucking joke. it makes me sad, this was something i was stoked about for a very long time.
