MORE ACAPELLA METAL THAT’S BETTER THAN VAN CANTO: JUD JUD AND DOKAKA

One of the more fun parts of guesting on last night’s Metal Injection Livecast was towards the end of the show, when we somehow ended up listening to some acapella metal. What was really amazing was that, unlike Van Canto, none of it sucked – in fact, it was all pretty rockin’. And, no, none of it was from this dude.

The first group we checked out was Jud Jud, a straight-edge duo that actually started back in the 80s. They were really just two dudes singing out all the guitar parts for various generic metal riffs (their songs have titles like “Speed Picking Song,” “Harmonics Song,” etc.), but they’re pretty awesome. I can’t believe they weren’t high when they come up with the idea for this.

The second artist (can I call these people artists?) we checked out was Dokaka, who I actually wrote about back in 2007, but, y’know. I guess weed isn’t very good for the memory. Maybe I should be straight edge like Jud Jud. Naw, I’m just joshin’, I’d never do that.

ANYWAY, here’s Dokaka doing “Creeping Death.” It’s frickin’ sweet, even if it seems pretty clear that this dude is crazy.

This is awesome! I love it all “so let it be written”!!!

This is better than Van Canto? How? It sounds like a choir of retards and the singer afflicted with cerebral palsy on the upper lip. Van Canto actually has singers that give some punch to the music. This is just shit.

haha I used to have a couple judjud records, somewhere I still have to old 403 comp with them on it, being from florida. I don’t think they were from the 80s though. I could be wrong.

Honestly, the Van Canto Metallica covers are so much better than this. I guess this is funnier though.

  • kazz

Much less good than Van Canto. Kinda funny though.

ROFL THIS GUY IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE!

I love what he does for Kirk’s, Lars’, and Cliff’s part… but his “version” of James’ “vocals?” hahahaah crazy.

Jud Jud wasn’t actually from the 80′s. Their releases came out in the mid-to-late 90′s and I doubt they were really straight edge. All that stuff was just said as a parody of straight edge hardcore bands. It was all one big joke.

Hahaha! Not too bad! Kinda reminds me of something AxCx would do.

And I do enjoy some Van Canto, but only in small doses.

I always wondered what Creeping Death would sound like with Mustaine on Vocals.

It absolutely blows my fucking mind that you guys hate Van Canto, and love this shit. Seriously guys, this is fucking awful.

  • TerM

Please tell me you are joking? Those are no talent wasters. seriously. It’s like hanging around teenagers who think they can sing. oh, wait …

Axl.I saw Van Canto live in Germany when I visited a bud there recently. I took a listen after your rant about them and half agreed with your opinion, although not as closed minded. Then I saw them live. Dude, they fraggin’ blew the headline band (Anyone know Blind Guardian?) out of the water. 35 minutes of pure fun. Way too short a gig for such an amazingly cool live band. Admittedly, the first cd does suck a bit, but then again so do most bands first attempts at a new type of music. Dokkaka is an insane Jap who is very funny but talentless. Why else would a weirdo like Bjork have him on her album? And JudJud just drank too much beer one night. But yes, funny. These guys have the nads to do something a tad more professional than the aforementioned. And to put it bluntly, it’s only entertainment. A distraction from the daily drudgery of life, if you will. So why get all anti on their asses dude? Did they insult you personally or what?
