SOME ROCK N’ ROLL FROM BROKEN TEETH TO KICK OFF YOUR THURSDAY

We’ve been getting a lot of emails about SXSW over the past couple of weeks. Every band’s got an agenda and every band’s got a mini-tour to and from Austin to support their SXSW dates. STP, Hole and the Deftones are some of the bigger acts rumored to be playing this year’s festival. That’s all well and good, but aren’t these fests supposed to be more about music discovery and breaking new bands? Friggin’ Metallica played last year. Not that seeing STP or Metallica in small venues isn’t sweet, but… ya know. Things have kind of gotten blown out of proportion.

So any time I get an email from a SXSW band (or their PR folk) I haven’t heard of, I make it a point to click the link. And hey lookee here, I actually found a good band!

The band is called Broken Teeth. They’re from Austin and they play rock and roll. Some assholes will probably find it shocking that I’ve never heard of this band before, but fuck you. Watch and listen.

This is bad. Are you feeling old or something? What’s wrong with you?

This is great, thanks for the recommendation. I can’t get enough of retro-sounding hard rock bands that can still write decent music without becoming a parody.

i can’t believe it took this long for you guys to post something about these guys. that album of theirs indeed rules bring memories of AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, and Southern Rock to mind

I find it more shocking that you didn’t mention that the singer of Broken Teeth is Jason McMaster, of Dangerous Toys fame! He also plays in Sad Wings, a Judas Priest tribute band.

Oh shit! Didn’t even know. Thanks, Bram.

Yes, what Bram said. Broken Teeth actually has a few albums out and has been around since at least 2005 as I saw them play a dive bar at SXSW that year. Chuck Klosterman was at that show drunk out of his mind and totally rocking out. Pretty hilarious. Also, McMaster is back with Watchtower and they are supposedly putting out a new album this year.
