SPEAKING OF KIDS WHO LIKE PANTERA AND CAN PLAY BETTER THAN YOU…

…I saw this video of British seventeen year-old Jacqueline Mannering on Metal Insider. MI says she’s gained prominence recently due to some tweets by Ashton Kutcher, who, when he’s not acting as cougar fodder, is apparently thinking about shtupping underage girls. (He compared Mannering to Penelope Cruz, which is… just wrong, dude.)

But this is the metal world, where anyone with musical talent or a vagina is equally worshiped by hordes of drooling fanboys. And since Mannering has both, I’m sure she there’s lots of big things in store for her.

    she’s ok, certainly needs work to be where i was at the age of 17, and ALOT less delay on her amp but she’s good, id say she’s better than orianthi. fuck orianthi with a sweaty ass foot.

    i could play stuff like that no problem when i was 13, but i guess age doesn’t have anything to do with it, just how many years experience and practice you’ve got. i figure if shes only been playing for a year or two, then she has some amazing potential

    She can play fast so she has skill…. whether she has TALENT or not depends on the development of her own musical voice and feel.

    Unlike the guys on here proclaiming that they were better at her age, her skill is more impressive due to the fact that, being a cute girl, she likely has to balance her bedroom wanking practice with the demands of a social life.

    By the way, the other video with the Dream Theater solo on Metal Insider is more impressive “shred”-wise. Interesting that she’s doing runs up and down the neck and I don’t think she uses her pinky once.

    On a side note, that Petrucci solo is completely stupid. Not an ounce of soul.

    I recently rated this video one star, and for good reason. Why? She gets 2.5 million + views for being a girl. She’s not particularly shreddy by any means, her tone has wayyyy too much reverb, and she’s a fucking walking advertisement for Dean. All bad IMO.

    Her technique is like that dude from the Faceless: Tyrannosaurus Rex hands. It doesn’t slow her down, but it distracts me. Also, a Dean? Come on, girl. Get some grass on the playing field and buy a Schecter or an Ibanez

    she does look bored. and given the right amount of practice, anybody could play somebody else’s stuff. can’t really judge someone’s “skill” based on someone else’s song.

      Actually, skill is ALL you can judge based on someone playing someone else’s song. It’s talent that’s much more elusive and intangible.

      I’ve watched a few videos of hers today after this posting, and the most accurate description of her playing style I can come up with is “robotic”. She trained herself to play fast, but doesn’t seem to know how to use the guitar to express herself in any way.

      I haven’t seen Orianthi “shred” like this, but her playing is way more expressive…

    Timing is off and she’s playing the DT solo wrong. I lost count of all the mistakes in there. If you’re going to cover Dream Theater you pretty much have to make sure it’s perfect.

      HEY JERK, I USE A SPIDER II! Haha. Mainly because I got it when I was 14 (five years ago) and haven’t really tried to save for something better since. Back then, all an amp needed was loudness and the gain knob turned to a stupid level to sound good to me.

    There is no structure just finger exercises. I play like this when warming up. i could have a thousand you tube videos of me looking bored and making noise. But I will spare you all.

    I told her yesterday on YouTube that she sounds simply horrible. Her playing has in no way expression nor musicality. It’s only a weak demonstration of techniques without the right skills in harmony and rhythm. Actually I feel sorry for her, but she wasted her time in the last 5 years by evidently wrong learning methods. On the 4th July 2011 she becomes now 19 years old, but couldn’t show substantial progress.

    Absolutely dreadful. The thing is, you google her name and theres websites saying “extremely talented, one of the best british guitarists around” etc etc. The thing is, as a guitarist she has a lot of problems. Her inability to use her pinky will prevent her from doing certain licks. Her picking technique is very average and her licks aren’t exactly virtuosic. However, I don’t know if others agree, but the worst part about her playing is her vibrato. It’s utterly dreadful. I’ve not seen someone so (apparently) famous for guitar playing with such horrible vibrato. Its sickening to listen to.
    Unfortunately, she is a female playing a music primarily dominated by male guitarists and thats why kids get so hung up over it. thank you youtube.
