DEFTONES: REFLECTIONS IN “DIAMOND EYES”

Vince is really the resident Deftones fan here at the MS Mansion; he’s tried on at least two occasions to convince me of the band’s awesomeness, but besides the song “Change” (which I frickin’ love), I’ve never been able to muster more than a “pretty good” for the band’s music (although I have seen them put on a pretty cool live show).

So I don’t really feel qualified to write about their new single, “Diamond Eyes.” I mean, it’s a good song, but it’s not knocking my socks off; but like I said, having never really been a huge Deftones fan or anything, it’s entirely possible that I’m just not the target audience for this. So listen to the track and make your own judgments:

“Diamond Eyes” is the title track from an album of the same name. It comes out May 18 on Reprise.

    god these two singles, “rocket skates” and “diamond eyes” sound fucking heavy as shit…i hope this album will be as good as these two songs…

    1 sounds like mnemic with catchy vocals. Let’s just hope the rest of the album is faster and more upbeat then this 2 slow singles.

    I’ll have to give it a few listens. I’m pretty huge deftones fan, I’m lukewarm on this song. Still pumped to hear the whole album though. But there’s a riff in there that’s heavy as FUCK.

    rocket skates is a decent song but this is waaaaay better. im so much more excited for the new album now. my favorite deftones stuff was always the really slowww and reeeally heavy but still super melodic and beautiful stuff like change and minerva. it sounds like theirs gonna be more of that on diamond eyes. at least, im crossing my fingers.
