WHITECHAPEL’S “DARKEST DAY”

Friday, March 19th, 2010 at 10:30am by

Here’s some fan-filmed footage of Whitechapel’s latest exercise in having three guitarists all play the same part. It’s called “The Darkest Day of Man,” and presumably will be on the band’s new album, which should be out sometime this summer on Metal Blade.

In all seriousness: I don’t really dislike this band as much as Vince does, but their appeal is a little lost on me – especially after I saw them live earlier this year. But there were a lot of people in the crowd and those people seemed to frickin’ LOVE this band, so…

These guys need to listen to the Holy Diver album a few more times.

these guys were the Suicide Silence replacements when SS started touring.

i hated their first album (their EP or whatever)
i thoguht their stage presence was a joke
their fans were fucking idiots who ESSENTIALLY WALKED BACK AND FORTH IN THE PIT

but then they came out with Exile and I shit myself, and I had to admit to actually liking that album.

but for the record, i fucking hated this band at first, i really really did, i thought they werre just a SS ripoff, same with carnifex… but i still hate carnifex

    • austin mandrell

you suck dude there first album was the best and carnifex the same way, ss suxx though i feel u on that

      • http://myspace.com/legions Dylan White

I never really liked Carnifex except for Lie to My Face, but there new album Hell Chose me, actually has a few good songs on there: Heartless, Names Mean Nothing, and of course Hell chose me. I mean I’ve listened to the entire ablum but those are the only ones that really stick out to me at the moment.

Mid tempo numetal posing as death metal FTW

  • Dwarfskeet

Now there needs to be a band with three guitarists, two bassists, two vocalists (clean/dirty), and perhaps just one drummer.

    It’s the only way.

    • gojirasaurus

1 singer 2 guitarists 1 bass 3 drums keyboard and a dj. now that sounds like a recipe fo sucess

  • Deth

what, no “core” this and “core” that posted yet? You people disappoint me. How else are you supposed to justify your hatred of the band? God forbid you actually just listen to what sounds good to you and, in that vein, if you don’t like Whitechapel don’t listen to them. No, it’s much better to make up some stupid sub-genre, then put them down. That makes you more metal than a chain link fence.

  • Anthony

I saw them on that Trivium/Chimaira tour. I really don’t like them at all, but I was absolutely astonished by how many people loved this band at the show. They had the crowd eating out of their hand their entire set.

  • JB

I’ve never seen them live, but I gotta admit I thought This is Exile was pretty fucking good. They have potential, if they diversify the three guitar attack a little bit (or a lotta bit) and play less breakdowns they could do some real interesting shit.

    • austin mandrell

they are breakdown kings, if u wanna listen to less breakdowns then ur listening to the wrong band

  • Crimsonking58

Did anyone else notice the guitars playing the Dragon Ball Z theme around 2:10?

Oh, and this band sucks, especially without overly triggered drums.

  • Frampler

Named after a shit bit of London. Says it all really.

    • Turbo Ringtail

The part of London where Jack the Ripper slaughtered prostitutes. I think that does say quite a bit. I personally really like this band (although I didn’t know until now that there were 3 guitarist).

      To each his own though.

This band sounds fuckin’ amazing. I’ve been a metalhead for a long time. I mostly love death metal. I don’t mind all that ‘core shit. Music is fuckin’ music. If they’re kids but they’re doin’ it right and it sounds good – why the fuck aren’t we supporting them???

I bought the first album of Whitechapel without seeing them live or even seeing their faces. I just heard the record before and it sounded killer. Fuck all your fuckin musicianship and overall band look issues. You’re supposed to listen to a band, not look at it or at the way they do it. So what if they’re all doing the same thing on guitar? WTF.

And why the fuck does it matters if Dino Cazares is fat? Enough with the fat jokes on this website they’re getting pretty old.

I’m with ya. Long time metal head and I don’t see why everyone has to hate a band because they have a slower part or some dirges (the kids have to call them “breakdowns”). Pantera, Exhorder, Carcass, Aborted, etc. all have had slow riffs in the same vein for years but they were never put down for it nor grouped into some “core” hybrid.

These guys are death metal, plain and simple. Just because they have short hair and non-standard instrumentation they have to be pigeon holed guys who think liking a band that gains some popularity makes them coformists of some kind.

Just listen to what sounds good to you, plain and simple.

Its just so hard to take this band seriously, especially when Suffocation and Nile can still put out albums that blow everything else out of the water.

hey 4 posts! Need to work on that guys.

  • Sammy

I saw them on the Trivium/Dirge Within/Darkest Hour tour and while they were not my cup of tea – and the need for a third guitarist was lost on me – I did love the pole-axing they gave my body with their wall of thundering sound. And how such a scrawny little dude can go from gutteral growls to maniacal screams like that is pretty amazing in a live setting.

  • ITTOA666

Seeing them live killed it for me. Nothing special onstage, just riff-breakdwon-slower breakdown. The only decent thing about em is the long haired guitarist and the drummer.

  • SolaceInNothing

    For all the haters…

You need bands like this because they give you a chance to spread your wings of condescension anonymously above, and wrap your tentacles of egotism around people who aren’t afraid to like music just because it sounds good to them, regardless if it is really “breaking new ground” or not.

Is the new album going to excel Whitechapel to new heights of excellence in musicianship? Probably not, but oh yeah THATS NOT WHY I LISTEN TO THEM. When I want to be musically challenged, Ill listen to the new Ihsahn, when I just want something that sounds mean and evil and just heavy, ill listen to Whitechapel.

Be more utilitarian when it comes to music, there’s more then just one reason to listen to it.

I went to high school with some of these guys. Zach (one of the guitarists) is a pretty nice guy…I’ve got nothing against him. But Alex is the biggest cock in the history of man. He writes songs by actually sitting down and transcribing the songs of OTHER deathcore bands, and then he rearranges them. I’m fucking serious. Before he joined Whitechapel they sounded like old Disgorge, really quite good. Then he just fucking corrupted them by plagiarizing other bands. I know this for a fact. He readily admits it, explains that he’s successful because he does that and you’re not, and walks away. In terms of musical originality the man is a complete fraud. Of course, if you like the band, then I don’t guess it really matters. But I find his attitude towards music irritating and artistically devoid.

But then again, I also don’t like deathcore.
