SO DO WE THINK AVENGED SEVENFOLD HAVE HIRED A NEW DRUMMER OR WHAT?

Friday, April 16th, 2010 at 12:30pm by

So Avenged Sevenfold are going to be playing one single stop of this Summer’s Mayhem Fest, on July 27 in Mansfield, MA. That strikes me as a pretty random location for A7X to show-up; they’re from the O.C. (Can I say “the O.C.” without sounding like a tool? As it turns out, no.), so it’s not like they just have to hop in the car and drive to the show.

But that’s neither here nor there; what I find really interesting about this announcement is that it means that sometime between now and July 27, A7X are going to have to hire a new drummer to replace The Rev, who, in case you haven’t heard, is no longer in the music business. Unless one or more of the drummers from the other bands on the tour are going to fill-in (not an unthinkable occurrence), or Mike Portnoy, who plays drums on the band’s new album, is doing the date (highly unlikely), or they’re planning to go all Genghis Tron on us (even less likely).

Hopefully the band will make some kind of announcement soon. Because while I know that three months seems like plenty of time to find a new drummer, you have to keep in mind that not only does said new drummer need to learn the set list, but he needs to go to the mall, get some ridiculous clothes, be re-christened with a silly nick name, etc., etc. You think they came up with “Zacky Vengeance” and “Synyster Gates” overnight? These things take time, man!

Really, I thought I would have heard more Dream Theater fan cry over the fact that Mike Portnoy got a deathbat tattoo. I guess I was wrong.

        • Alex_P

Whatever. Dude also likes Slipknot, and Labrie likes Journey. Their shitty taste is a fact we’ve dealt with already.

          • Brian \m/(-_-)\m/

whatever music they like is of no concern to me, as long as it doesnt impact their creative process negatively

As a native Californian, and resident of 19 years, I can assure you that no one calls it “The O.C.”

As a native Californian, and resident of 22 years, I can assure that people do in fact call it ‘The O.C’ now thanks to the show.

They also call I-5, ‘The Five’. Seriously. Are you so fucking cool that a goddamned interstate needs a fucking nickname?

      • stu1

People call every freeway “the” something. The 101, the 110, the 10, the 5, the 405, the 134, etc. Nothing new, at all.
And well before the show, I heard people calling it “the OC” or just “OC” ery frequently.

        • LordBokrug

I am from Washington State and I have never heard a single person refer to I-5 as “The 5,” what the fuck?

          • Discipleofthewatch

Yes, we definitely do that here with the freeways.

Just call it Orange County like a normal person.

Demi God Raven, you’re local with me over here? Where’s your picture of a deer on MetalSucks?

          • stu

Ok, notice: Washington State. California. Two different places. Got it? Good.

      • gibberish

Huh… I’ve heard people calling it “the O.C.” but I’ve never heard I-5 called that. Must not be a central valley thing, I guess

“A7X are going to have to hire a new drummer to replace The Rev, who, in case you haven’t heard, is no longer in the music business”

Oh axl i love your subtle comedy

    • Double D

I agree, this post is great.

  • http://thenumberoftheblog.com DemiGodRaven

but said drummer will also need at least two months to go through the stages of grief to console himself with joining Avenged Sevenfold.

    • Mike Arose

      Sir that comment is gold

    • Double D

Don’t forget that he has to tell his parents he’s gay.

  • Anthony

They’re playing the Heavy MTL festival in Montreal too.

correction: they are playing the HEAVY MTL festival in Montreal Canada which combines the Megadeth/Slayer tour with Mayhem to make an intense weekend of metal

  • Metalguy

REV WAS THE BEST DRUMMEr Ever NOONE CAN REPLACE HiM rarararaaaaa( fanboi suicide )

  • Barbara Lopez

Thank goodness that Mike Portnoy isn’t joining them. If he was then I would be extremely pissed. A shitty band like that does not deserve a badass drummer like Mike Portnoy.

    • stu

What a fucking stupid comment. On multiples levels, too.

  • http://www.lolfish.org Devin

So many A7X haters. Less shit talk, more music making? Oh wait, you can barely even play Smoke On The Water on your guitar? Well, just keep talking shit on Metal Sucks. It’s not like Synyster is out being a millionaire somewhere.

Maybe M Shadows will take up guitar/bass and either Zacky, Syn, or Johnny will become drummer

  • Aaron

What sucks the most about the rev passing away is that my dream of A7X kicking M Shadows out and just letting Rev do all the vocals will never come true. Would have actually gotten me listening to them again.

He actually had a cool side project called Pinkly Smooth and put out a really neat experimental album but never got back to it when A7X got MTV famous as well as really, really bad. Damn shame.
