THE NEVERMORE “CREATE YOUR OWN CONSPIRACY” CONTEST ENDS TODAY!

Friday, April 30th, 2010 at 12:00pm by

There are only a little less than 12 hours left to win your chance to perform live with Nevermore by recording your own lyrics and vocal performance of “The Obsidian Conspiracy,” the title track of Nevermore’s forthcoming album. You’ve got until midnight EDT tonight to submit a video response to the above video on YouTube, so make these last hours count. Be sure to read the official rules, too.

As a little last minute bonus, today we’re making available the official album version of the song with the one and only Warrel Dane on vocals. Perhaps it’ll provide some of you suffering from a little case of writer’s block with some last minute inspiration. Confession: I’ve listened to so many of your entries already that the official version now sounds weird to me. Don’t worry: the entries will not be judged on how similar they are to — or how different from — the original. May the best Internet Dork win.

“Confession: I’ve listened to so many of your entries already that the official version now sounds weird to me.”

I felt the same thing! haha

To be completely honest, despite repeated listening of the instrumental track as well as the guitar clinic version of The Obsidian Conspiracy, hearing the intended vocals changes the energy and feeling of the song in the form we were listening to it before. Remember all the media interviews of Loomis reiterating how much room Warrel Dane was getting this time around? Obviously the vocals are being treated more like an showcase instrument, especially considering all those harmonies. Maybe the real harmony intended for this album is between Loomis’ guitar and Dane’s vocals, no more vying for attention, essentially. Then again, I haven’t heard the album yet so yah.

Man,i gotta tell you…your version sounds better to my ears then the original does so far! lol It kinda reminds me of Dane’s voice on Into The Mirror Black (Sanctuary)…

Son of a BITCH that’s a good song. Thought I couldn’t get any more excited for the album, but clearly I was wrong. Bring on June already!

I fucking love this song! I heard three of the new ones and it’s quite interesting, it’s like an Opethian style. Like it has very melodic, acoustic moments and it builds into heavy, crushing ones. definitely different, but definitely awesome.

Woooaaa… well..to be honest, after entering the contest with my own version and listening to many of the others..I was prepared to nevertheless be blown away by the origina version, but to be honest..something doesnt seem ..right..about the this original :P The chorus is the best, but worse and bridge.. very wierd hehe. but hey, thats the beauty of artisitic freedom, creativity and impulses…each person has his own perception of whats “right” ;)

    • Ryan Blackstock

I’m with you on that….seems like a lot of other entries had….maybe more words?
I posted a video response but it didnt show up with everyone elses, so it is just sitting there under my youtube name…
I liked a lot of the entries!!!

Yeah, I thought about the ..”lack”(?) of words hehe… Guess Im used to the Nevermore lyrics to contain many words and sentences, thats its abit of Dane’s style.. so very little words hehe. Good luck to you!

    Amazing song.

The beginning sounds a lot like Needled 24/7 by COB…

Definitely seems like the title track was meant to be Loomis’ child. The chorus is very catchy though.

The lyrics of the official version (or at least what I got by hearing it )
blake ? in your selfish state and enraged ?

    never should want die
that can not decide the truth
    never should want cry
    should suffer the children

the snakes arrive to assistance around the sage
black expressions is fossil ?? rage

create and deny your subversive wings
    the obsidian conspiracy is rising
    justify your shame
    the obsidian conspiracy is rising

    regardless of the consequence
    we drown inside our arrogance
we choose to bring our nameless
to this false place so shameless

    never should want die
    that never could see absolute
    never should want cry
    let nothing destroy them

the blades align in differencing feed?? the plague
this black agenda of hate is born of pain

    the coming waves
    in silent raves
will soam? the sea of glass
    and image wake
    all the bad remains

    the drowning sage
    can feel the silence
the violent storm can never be heard
    these are my last words

  • belibem

    corrections:
blank in your selfish state and enraged…
black expressions is force of rage….
will assume the sea of glass…

“never should one die”, i think. not “want die.” and judging by warrel dane’s tweets, it’s “subversive ways,” not “wings.”

  • belibem

i guess you ‘re right with “never should one die”. It may also be “never should wanna die”

More over it must be “so suffer the children” not sould

However it is wings not ways:

This contest was a huge success. It was great taking part into this
My favorite entries (I exclude mine in order to be unbiased):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0gGKqOnGu0
orbsonb:Awesome version soaked in the nevermore spirit. Clear and memorable ideas that are perfectly aligned with the music. The lyrics also kick major ass. I won’t be surprised if this one wins!

    http://www.youtube.com/user/FROMBEYONDTHEMATICS
FROMBEYONDTHEMATICS:an unbelievable blow of raw power that makes your mind vibrate that somehow succeds to blend in nevermore’s blackness. Killer chorus and proffesional production.

Powershift3r:Novel and unique attitude that may sound a bit strange in the first listening.. The more I listen to this one the more i like it. It could be well become the main theme for an anime series.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2OV23pkEpQ
HeavenInReverse: I m not fond of grinding vocals but I have to admit that this version has something special. Extra point for the early submission.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aIFJa7rUas
Barlowned: Deep, dark and well recorded. Clearly a charismatic singer. The bridge is outstanding and the chorus as lyric as it gets.
