ROCKSTAR ENERGY UPROAR: YET ANOTHER SUMMER PACKAGE TOUR/FEST THINGY

Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at 12:00pm by

UPDATE: The actual line-up and dates for this tour after the jump. Still pretty awful. Original story below.

At some point, aren’t all these big package tours just gonna cannibalize one another? It seems like they’re all either competing for the same audience, or at least for a portion of the same audience. And now Metal Insider tells me that there’s gonna be another one, which, like Mayhem, will be sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drink: Uproar.

Gotta love the dudes whose job it is to sit around and think of new names for these things.

The rumored bands for this particular trek includes Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Hellyeah, Stone Sour, Lacuna Coil and Halestorm. Which is a pretty miserable line-up. All those people in the comments section of my Ozzfest story who are asking how Ozzfest isn’t as bad as I thought it would be? Well, they should consider this tour. ‘Cause this is pretty much what I thought Ozzfest would be. If you somehow think that this is better than Skeletonwitch, Goatwhore, Kataklysm and Halford, then, I dunno. I hope we can still be friends, but we definitely don’t have the same taste in music.

ANYWAY, this tour is allegedly gonna be more a late summer/early fall-type deal, so I guess if you really wanna go to this and some of the other similar tours happening in the months prior, you’ll have a little extra time to save up some cash for the ticket. Me, I’d do pretty much anything else.

Oh sure, this one, the one I have absolutely no interest in seeing is actually going to make it to Nebraska. This state sucks for concerts.

    • russell

man that sux. What is there to do in Nebraska anyway? Apparently nothing since no good shows make it there.

The best fest this year is definitely going to be Summer Slaughter Tour followed by Mayhem then maybe this or crappy Ozzfest….

  • DemonicLemming

For as much hate as Disturbed gets here, when I saw them at Ozzfest a couple years back, they were the ONLY main-stage band that participated with the audience. Crowd favorite for sure.

Also, Halestorm is pretty good, as a no-frills female rock band.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Zach-Gates/14209777 Zach Gates

They’re what I’d call a “solid” band. They have a sound, it’s not bad, and from what I can tell they’re a great fan-oriented band. Just not one I’d go see live.

One of my problems with metal-oriented sites is the downright animosity that seems to get thrown at bands that exist outside the tight sphere of “real metal”. Or maybe “mainstream metal” would be the better term.

Yeah, Disturbed ain’t on par with a Revocation or Skeletal Spectre, but so what? They fill a different niche.

      • DemonicLemming

I wouldn’t go see Halestorm if they were the only ones playing, but I wouldn’t walk out of their set if they were between two bands I liked, either. I think “solid” is probably the most fitting description – nothing wildly different, but nothing bad, either, and they do it without falling into the “meh” category like so many other bands do.

    • Genial Gentile

To be fair, I think most of the clowning on Disturbed is a result of their Affliction/tough guy posturing and the ridiculous “sounds of the rainforest” vocalizations that their singer does.

      • http://www.theoppositionmachine.wordpress.com the opposition machine

no..im pretty sure most of the disturbed clowning comes from the fact that theyre boring at best and downright awful at worst…

        • Genial Gentile

Yeah…well there’s that too. But the other stuff doesn’t help.

        • DemonicLemming

They’re designed for the average radio listener. Compared to the music most people who post here listen to, Disturbed is about as “radical” as the Easter Bunny, but to the average person, it’s probably on the rough fringe of what they consider “heavy headbanging music”. Their music really isn’t that horrible – the vocals are goofy at times, but really, people who listen to death metal can’t say a thing on that issue – and most of the songs are relatively catchy. People can rag on Disturbed all they want, but from an objective viewpoint, they’re much more successful (financially and popularly) than the majority of “real metal bands” playing music today.

  • ferris

Nice title. Presumably, “Da Loudness” was taken.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ryan-Sean-Heron/9391234 Ryan Sean Heron

    yea. ill pass

  • http://heavystreet.com Sat

The US is so behind the times, while Europe is leading the charge when it comes to big and proper heavy music fests. I’ll just stick too New England and Black N Blue Bowl.

    • msv81

Maryland Deathfest is usually good, too.

    • stu1

Maryland is the best in the states this year.

  • soy el niño más bonito

    whooooo-ee

  • aj lucas

    terrible

  • bethany

    … It’s almost embarrassing.

  • politude

Oh sure, Calgary doesn’t get any big metal festivals, but this crock of shit clearly makes it’s way to my city. What the fuck.

  • Brian \m/(-_-)\m/

okay whatever fuck all yall im actually stoked for this tour. well, only main stage. hellyeah still sucks donkey balls (though seeing vinnie paul should be cool) and airborne is aight sometimes. havent heard the other two yet but ill check it out. and yes, i still listen to stuff like skeletonwitch and goatwhore decapitated and the red chord and all that other stuff that everyones really excited about on ozzfest and summer slaughter. but i also like disturbed and avenged sevenfold and stone sour and halestorm. does that make me a bad person?

    • aids robot

      yes, it does

      • Brian \m/(-_-)\m/

cant say i didnt expect that

  • Anthony

There are only 2 good bands on Ozzfest: DevilDriver and Kataklysm, both who will play maybe 30 minutes each on their respecitve stages.

Uproar has 2 (what I think at least) good bands: Disturbed (headliner) and Stone Sour (3rd billing on the main stage), as well as Hail the Villain (decent Hard rock) playing the 2nd stage.

Uproar also won’t be $100 for a ticket. Maybe closer to like $50 or $60.

So basically. Mayhem > Uproar > Ozzfest

    • Brian \m/(-_-)\m/

but summer slaughter > everything :)

      • aj lucas

agreed ille be at mayhem summer slaughter and ozzfest definetly not upwhore (but i will enjoy goatwhore at ozzfest)

  • http://heavystreet.com Heavystreet

The US has been lagging behind Europe for years in terms of heavy music fests. I think Ill stick with New England Metal and Hardcore Fest and the Black N’ Blue Fest.

    • russell

Tell me about it. My friends over at Enemy Reign are just played Neurotic DeathFest. Why don’t we get bad ass festivals all the time.

Who here doesn’t like giant turkey legs, gallons of beer and blast beats w/ melodic guitars and headbanging madness?……..

We need a (Metalblade, Nuclear Blast, Sumerian, etc….. tour)

      • stu1

That type of fest just doesn’t work as well here as it does in Europe.

        • russell

Are you talking about in terms of turnout? Yeah, it seems for a festival to have a good turnout of people it needs to have some shitty bands that we all hate to get the mainstream excited about it.

I am just saying that would be awesome: Behemoth, Decapitated, Black Dahlia Murder, The Faceless, After The Burial, etc….

They should come up with a a 3 day festival somewhere in the states and just call it Epic Death Fest or something along those lines.

    • SP420

New England Fest sucks too. They get shorter, tighter, pricier, and more hardcorier every year.

Only thing worth going to is Maryland Deathfest.

  • earthsherm

i know this has nothing to do with this post, and is a little bit dated now but i have to get it off my chest. crack the skye is an awful record and the guys in mastodon can’t sing. way to go super soft. if they were any other band people would have been pissed with such a wimp record. sellouts.

    • Derek

the term “sellout” is used when a band changes in a negative way to gain money, fame, ect… they did change their sound but the music is still talented and creative and better than anything mentioned on this page so they are not sellouts. basically… shut the fuck up.

    • stu1

Go get down with the sickness, brah.

      • earthsherm

sorry derek, that cd sucks. ohhhh ah ah ah ah

  • KMFCM

    they topped THEMSELVES in badness

  • Nic Headlee

Wow, thats special, thank god i live in Montana, I won’t be seeing this one.

  • doosh coogr

    …for once I’m GLAD there’s no Michigan date…
Keep this bullshit away from my hidden oasis of kvlt as shit death metal

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lance-Zeran/100000142665110 Lance Zeran

My comment was going to be almost exactly like that.

  • William Grimmkvlt

It’s always a jolt when I see bands like Disturbed are still around. I’m like, “Really? People still want to listen to that guy making the monkey noises? What year are we in?” I’m surprised Godsmack’s not on this bill. I guess Sully is too busy running people over with his SUV and doing his Danzig-like tough-guy wannabe act.

    • russell

It is just like that shitty band Godsmack. I no longer have faith in any radio station because of bands like Disturbed and Godsmack. I even noticed that the Sirius metal channel is starting to play the same shit over and over. I can only listen to Fear Factory a few times a month. They play them all freakin day..

      • gojirasaurus

i have only used Sirius a handful of times and every time i listen its “dead skin mask” by slayer or “psycho holiday” by pantera

        • BC

I’ve been a long time Sirius subscriber and I can’t listen to the metal station (aka Liquid Metal) anymore. The guy who programs the station José something or other Is a complete and total douche and plays nothing but shit Nu-Metal and anything with a member who is in any remote way Latino/Latina I’m not ragging on ethnicities or being racist, I’m just saying not EVERYONE is Latino and not everyone speaks spanish so José please stop blowing (Ahem.. Interviewing) Dino Cazares all the time just play some real fucking metal and stop DJ-ing leave that to Ian Christe or someone else who knows what the fuck they are doing!

    • Genial Gentile

…or hanging out with Criss Angel. Goddamn that is an unholy douche-connection.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Andrew-Sterner/1335958279 Andrew Sterner

OMFG. Out of all the tours to get near my house, it had to be this fucking one! Can’t any decent bands come to charlotte? Ever? I’m sick of having to go to Raleigh for shit.

  • Permafrost

This tour is 8 layers of shit.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dominic-Maximillian-Nunez/1338275285 Dominic Maximillian Nunez

Why is this site a cesspool for Disturbed haters?
Can anyone give a real good reason why they are as terrible as this site and everybody who comments on this site suggests?

  • KAH

Love “real metal” as much as anyone here (All Shall Perish, Behemoth, BDM, etc), but I love me some Disturbed too. They were the first band I really loved growing up, and if it weren’t for them, I may not be listening to heavy music today, which is something I can’t even fathom at this point.

Anyway, if the show weren’t on a Tuesday (I’m about an hour north of Denver), I’d be there in a heartbeat, but Tuesdays aren’t really lending themselves to me being at all social this fall :P

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Emmanuel-Quinones/100000463639580 Emmanuel Quinones

    LOL……….
