NEVERMORE/METALSUCKS “CREATE YOUR OWN CONSPIRACY” CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

To celebrate the upcoming release of Nevermore’s The Obsidian Conspiracy, we asked you to download an instrumental version of the title track, write your own lyrics, record your own vocals, and put it on YouTube. Well, we got a lot of great entries, but there can be only one grand-prize winner. And that winner is… Ben Robson! Congratulations, Ben!!! Here’s his winning entry. Not only are the vocals great, but Ben is incredibly entertaining to watch, too.

Ben will be flown to a Nevermore show, all expenses paid, to perform his version of the song live with the band. So congrats again, Ben! We’re jealous.

After the jump, check out the five runners-up, who are all also terrific. Each one of them will receive a Century Media/Nevermore prize pack. Mazel tov to you all!!!

And don’t forget to check out The Obsidian Conspiracy when it comes out June 8th in North America and May 31st in Europe!

        hey, hey, hey. say what you will about crosby. but “the rest of the penguins” includes max talbot. and NOBODY talks shit about max talbot and lives. his beard will strangle you in the night.

          I have nothing against Talbot, Malkin, Dupuis or Gonchar. However the Staal no one cares about (how’d he ever get considered for the Selke?), Marc-Andre “make a routine save look like an emmy winning event” Fleury and Cindy Crosby are on my shit list.

          jordan staal’s a monster on the penalty kill. he gets a disproportionate number of shorthanded goals, and he’s the hardest-checking forward the pens have. i dunno about him being one of the top three in the league or anything, but he’s certainly no slouch.

          crosby was kind of a diver and “whiny” as a rookie, but hell, the kid was 18 and playing in a league with people like Zdeno Chara who could literally pick him up and eat him for breakfast if they wanted to. he gets a lot of shit from a lot of people but he’s really stepped up his sportsmanship and skill in the past years. he’s as good a goal-scorer as anyone and a great playmaker in the right situations. i’d take him over malkin any day, though i do love me some malkin.

            Staal compared to Datsyuk and Kesler…well you can’t even compare them lol. He’s a decent player and does his job, but he doesn’t deserve to be in the same namesake as the other two. Basically the only reason I dislike him.

            I actually think Crosby has done the reverse. He was less whiny at 18, though he did dive a lot against certain players. There’s no denying he’s very talented, but I think he’s become more of a prima donna over the last two seasons. He complains every time someone knocks him down or roughs him up. Not to mention his cowardly “fights” when he goes after people when they aren’t even looking. One compliment I will give him is he is smarter than Ovechkin on the ice.

    wow, Ben’s version was sick!!!

    I thought that this contest would be a butcher shop and a chance to simply laugh at the contestants attempts to sound like Warrel Dane, but all of these people did an excellent job. I thought that TheocracyMatt’s version was awesome as well, but Ben really kicked some serious ass with his version.

    Congrats to all the contestants, I know I would not have to balls to do this.

    so, having never listened to nevermore, i watched the winners video, and the video of the actual song by the band, and i think the actual vocals suck hard. that kid did ok, even if he looks like a chode.

    i could kill myself for not submitting my own. i guess i just was afraid cuz i cant sing as high as i wrote the melody lol. had a good version, u can take my word 4 it. not better than ben tho, good job dude, u slayed it. i actually like it better than the actual one lol

    This contest reminds of the great fun everyone had with Dream Theater’s “Stream of Consciousness” several years ago. So cool to see how talented metal *fans* can be…

    I much preferred TheocracyMatt’s version, but then again, he’s already a professional vocalist in a metal band that I already happen to really like (Theocracy…duh!), and he obviously put some nice production on the vocals. But for a fan-made song, Ben’s was really impressive. Congrats! I did not expect the finalists to be this good.

    On a side note, if you liked Matt’s version, you need to check out Theocracy. They’re quite a great (and horribly underrated!) modern power metal band, and their latest album Mirror of Souls is one of my favorite power metal albums of the past few years.
