REZNORWATCH: HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS EP AVAILABLE THIS TUESDAY FOR FREE

Friday, May 28th, 2010 at 10:30am by

I will switch teams for Trent Reznor right now and I don’t care who knows it. He really is just making a strong play for the title of “Coolest Dude EVER.”

It was exactly a month ago today that we first heard about How to Destroy Angels, Renzor’s new project with his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, and frequent Nine Inch Nails collaborator Atticus Ross; and it was just a few days ago that we heard that the group’s debut EP would be coming out July 6. Well, that release date either only applies to physical copies of the album, or has been scrapped, or was never real to begin with, ’cause now HTDA have announced that they will be GIVING THE EP AWAY FOR FREE in 320 kbps mp3s THIS TUESDAY, June 1. If you “pre-order” the album right now – pre-ordering in this instance basically amounting to joining an e-mail list – you can download a new song, “The Believers,” right now.

Or, for a whopping two bucks, you can get a hi-def upgrade, which comes with your choice of lossless audio formats available in 24-bit WAV (44.1 kHz), FLAC, or Apple Lossless, plus 320 kbps mp3, plus the gorgeous music video for “The Space in Between” in a range of video formats up to 1080p.

(Of course, super-fans can also spend anywhere from twenty to fifty bucks on packages that include t-shirts and posters and blah blah blah.)

So, to review, in the time-span of a month, HTDA have announced their existence to the world, and let everyone hear half of their EP so that we all know that they have the goods and are worth caring about. And in just another few days, we can all hear the rest of that EP.

Did I mention I’d switch teams for Trent Reznor right now if he asked me to?

Go here to pre-order the EP and get your free “Believers” download. It still sounds very much like NIN with a female vocalist, although it has a cool kinda tribal feel that I can’t recall ever hearing on a NIN track.

Sweet. I love pretty much everything Trent has ever done, save for “The Slip”, which was kind of shitty.

Trent is the man. Broken is one of the greatest EP’s ever. It’s 25 minutes of Industrial strength mayhem. Im gonna definatley give this new project a listen.

Sweet. I’ve liked everything I’ve heard so far and was going to download it anyway. Now I won’t have to feel as guilty about being a broke sonuvabitch.

The cover art really reminds me of Buckethead – Population Override.

I will second your line of Trent being the Coolest dude EVER. While his more recent music releases haven’t been the fifteen-year-heart-punch that his earlier releases were, his openness and willingness to explore what the internet means to performers is continually impressive.
I recognise that it is easier for him – as a reasonably economically-secure individual – to embrace the interweb than other performers, but there are so few others of equivalent status doing anything remotely similar (radiohead being a notable exception). Remember, it has only been a narrow space of time in which performers could make money from their pre-packaging their product. Now we return to fresh-is-best. Where performers may have to revert to performing to earn a crust. And as anyone with half a brain recognises, the Britneys of the world don’t do that well at performing.

The point being that Trent is willing to experiment is testament to his spirit of creativity. This interview is a good example of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBxhxVIiwaA

Well, I just listened to the EP that came out today……..and well I am a huge nails fan and a fan of Trent Reznor, I have to admit this EP is garbage. The song A Drowing is AMAZING and Space in Between is ok but the other 4 songs are absolutely painful to try and get through.

I never thought I would say I didn’t really care for something Trent put out but I guess it was bound to happen sometime.
