BOB ROSS IS [WAS] METAL

I was a huuuuge Bob Ross fan when I was kid. The #1 treat of staying home sick from school was getting to watch The Joy of Painting on PBS daytime TV. I was obsessed with Bob Ross, even tried to paint like him, and his death crushed me like a sack of bricks landing on a happy little tree. He was one hell of a painter with a distinct style. I kept his NY Times obit framed on my wall for many years.

I would hope that if Bob Ross was still alive and able to see the above Photoshop job [posted by Metal Injection] he’d laugh. I think he would, despite the subject matter being at odds with his happy go lucky demeanor. He was cool like that.

After the jump, some vintage BR for ya:

I loved Bob Ross. When I was 3 my parents told me they heard me talking about “Yellow Ocher” and “Magic White” in my sleep.

Bob Ross was human xanax…. the best non-chemical way to put you in a state of relaxed bliss.

    • cougar party

Human Xanax. That’s awesome. Seriously, though that guy was chill as fuck.

  • EvilivE

I remember watching him in school, when our fat-ass art teacher was too lazy to actually teach us.

  • SP420

He is just so calming to watch…

  • Hibernum

Yes! Let’s put a happy little tree right here. Let’s give him a friend so he won’t be lonely.

  • noobpotato

Dude this is the fast time i’ve ever watched it. Goddam what a fucking genius.

  • Doc

Nice. I actually have nothing snarky to say. This is just plain nice.

  • kmfcm

Obtuse have a song about him

  • NoNameNoSlogan

I love watching Bob Ross, he seemed like he was a genuinely nice guy.

  • NateD

I have fond memories of watching him paint. He seemed like the coolest dude ever, and to be able to create such beautiful art every show with such little effort, genius.

  • BruisedMetal

    Happy trees

  • pigchop

His television show is still being broadcast. Very quiet, peaceful dude and, a very good teacher. I mean, if (after taking in a few lessons from him) you can’t at least paint a basic mountain scene, you should probably throw away the brush…or start smoking better quality weed. I’ll bet good ol’ Bob was a fan of quality herbage.

  • Frampler

He’s no Rolf Harris or Neil Buchanan!

  • Tom

Good ol’ Bob Ross. The man was more metal than half the bands promoted on this site.

    Bob Ross FTW!

  • wackomann

There’s an episode of The Boondocks where Riley Freeman is given art/graffiti lessons by a very Bob Ross-like character. Given the role-reversals of the brothers in the episode (Riley actually doing good while Huey is doing stupid stuff instead), I think it’s one of the three best episodes in the Boondocks canon. Well, that and the Itis episode.

i loved bob ross as a kid, and was equally upset when he passed. i can’t tell you how many hours upon hours of his show i recorded with my vcr when i was a kid. i must have at least 50 hours of bob ross painting. his show is still the best thing to make you relax and put you in a good mood.

  • Sylvester

    Bob Ross is the shit!
One of my fave shows as a kid on our days off.
As an adult, nothing like a doobie and a couple of hours of Bob painting “happy little trees” for total relaxation.

  • J-Ho

Whatever. Bob Ross is about as metal as Billy Ocean.

    Oh wait:
